Let me tell you one thing ... the Parents will bring some realism into the Teaching profession, bring some real world experiences, bring some intelligence.

There are 50 applicants for each Teaching job - SACK THE STRIKING TEACHERS forthwith and give the jobs to those who want to teach and get them to sign new Terms and Conditions.

It's about time the whole Education system was seen for what it is - a money making machine for Teachers .... and a very generous one at that!

Any reason for putting just teachers on the firing line Petey? I see no mention of the PCS or ATL strikes?

Let them strike I say.

Then the Government will be able to push through a new law making striking illegal.

They can then push through the reforms without contest.

Because the Teachers are the one's I know extensively about - and can comment with absolute authority on .... that's why.

I KNOW they are all going to get a 7.5% payrise in September 2011 .... yet still they moan.

I KNOW that current Pension funds will pay out when they would have - hence a Teacher can collect a frozen 'old' Pension at 55 and work on to 66 paying into the 'new' Pension and retire finally at 66 (if they choose to).

Therefore a Teacher who has worked from age 25 to 55 (30 years) will get, on their 55th Birthday, 75% of their pay at that point ...... about £37,500 ..... they then continue working and collecting their £50,000 salary until 66 (if they wish to), at which point the 'new' Pension will pay out!

In reality what will happen is Teachers will elect at 55 to work part-time .... maybe 2 days a week and get 2/5ths of £50,000 + their Pension of £37,500!!

Make no mistake, you will not see a poor Teacher for decades ...... and rightly so - but they should stop drawing attention to their excessive pay, excessive conditions, excessive holidays and excessive Pensions!!

Not to mention their tough contracted 26 hour week!!

Do you actually live in the real world? You maybe protected by law, but most bosses would be p1ssed off that the staff have to have time off to look after kids, because the teachers are on strike

Excellent idea - following on from that, they could bring back slavery.

Hardly Petey.

Wish i'd never bothered commenting in the first place now, I just find it hard to believe that someone could be so blinded as to pigeon-hole ALL teachers as bad people and call them selfish for fighting in something they believe. Especially someone who works for a company that in esscence, destroys peoples lives... slightly hypocritical dont you think?

Yeah sure, we could let them strike, let the government change the law and push through the changes, but isnt that one step away from losing peoples freedom?

Yes, but the problem is they ARE being selfish as the rest of us are all feeling huge financial pain too so what makes teachers think they are so special that they don't have to be affected?

That is the point YOU seem unable to grasp!!!

How are they not being affected? They still suffer the rising cost of living like the rest of us.

Why dont you tell me what else ALL other people suffer that Teachers dont?

Let's try this as an example. I am self employed and I am now working 60% more hours to bring in the same income as I did 4 years ago.

There are tens of thousands just like me. We are part of what is called the private sector where you work long hours and take the rough with the smooth without expecting everything to be provided on a plate for you e.g. a pension.

Many teachers and their ilk won't even understand what that means, but just as a reminder to them it is the private sector who will have to look after their kids tomrrow when they should be at school on one of the rare weeks that schooling actually happens in this country while the teachers are protesting over a bit of financial hardship a fraction of that that has been absorbed by people like me for the last 3 to 4 years!!!

You've managed to word that as if self-employment doesnt have its own benefits. Please.

Well tell your wife to go self employed then

I notice your response conveniently ignores addressing the issues raised in my post especially the fact that we all have to take some pain and that includes your beloved teachers!

Why would she do that? She not striking and is perfectly happy with life.

What do you want me to say? I agree EVERYONE is suffering, regardless of job (ok, maybe not the scapegoat bankers, politicians etc). My whole argument is that I think everyone has the right to protect what they have had in place... besides, it's not their faults the country is in this position is it?

Or is it Pete?

One of my kids schools is closing the other isnt. The one that isnt prides itself on being open, snow or strikes they are always open.

So how can one school do this and another cant? A good head teacher instilling their believes that they are there for the children at all costs? or just a bit of luck?

God forbid you take a child out of school for a holiday though, that seems to upset alot of Schools.

So you think everyone has a right to protect what they had in place even though the country cannot now afford it if it is going to reduce its debt???

Do you also believe in money trees and fairies at the bottom of the garden?

I would love to have my income back where it was prior to 2007, but it is not my right to have that either.

The problem is you say everyone is suffering regardless of job yet some of the teachers (and their unions) seem to think they should be exempt.

They are selfish at best and stupid at worst!!

What, at the expense of everyone else? In that case you'd be in support of "fat-cat" salaries and and bankers' bonuses too?

So we should all sit back and just do as we're told by this government? Everyone's suffering with increased taxes, price of fuel etc, where does it stop?
