Basically, Teachers haven't a clue about how people hate their greedy stand over this!!

They will get very little support - I say force the change, just do it ... they either sign up or look for another job ......... plenty of NQT's to fill the gaps

Just imagine their faces when their new boss (if they can get a job) say's that he can tell them to work 40 hours a week AND they will get 22 days holiday!!

I understand you want to defend your mrs but the fact is teachers have the least directed work hours of anyone in a full time job.

5t.
my wifes a teacher and starts work at 8 and comes home at 6 then continues to do work till eight and as for the holidays its the children that have the time off. my wife in the six weeks holiday works the first two weeks then has two off then goes back to work for the last two to do home visits and as for the pension yeah its good in the end but you cant opt out of it they take £140 a month off her without being able to opt out is a bit harsh.

Oh and just for the record her wage packet says 37.5 hours a week

I'm not calling you a liar but given what I saw in all my years whilst at school I find those hours hard to believe. Teachers would normally start at nine and the only people remaining after half three were the cleaners and the caretaker.

My wife's an NQT and he's got it pretty much spot on.

I've given up on this thread as there's clearly a large number of miserable sods who clearly know NOTHING of the profession and are simply trolling as per usual.
I know a number of Teachers beside my wife, I know they all work F*cking hard at what they do, only to be faced with kids who abuse them, and parents who think scholl is a free child sitting service.
It's the usual case of people with nothing better to do whinging about others who are willing to stand up for what they believe. Obviously i'm biased, by fair play I say. People have to look after number one.

I'm not targeting teachers specifically, but the public sector in general. I've not seen one viable alternative to addressing the £30bn public sector pension deficit from those who are in the public sector.

I have 5 kids, all at state school (1 secondary 4 primary), and all taught by fully committed and talented teachers,

(they are at exceptional schools btw both offsted'd as outstanding in every measure)

and assuming that they are equipping my children (along with us, their parents) with the skills to survive in an increasingly competitive world I have no complaints about the work they do

they have every right to fight for their rights – it is always annoying when contracts are reneged on

that said we are where we are and i agree that it should be easier to get rid of **** teachers - but the good ones are worth every penny

+1

Ignorance is not bliss, but seems to rule on the "non-scooby" forum.
For that reason I'm not wasting anymore time on this.

Every post I have made in contribution to this thread comes from a vast knowledge of the subject matter ......... as is usual, the vested interests like to portray an image which is made up of smoke and mirrors.

For example, we have not heard that Teachers get TWO payrises a year!! YES, TWO!! One increment and one general rise.

OK, this year it is proposed that there will not be a general rise - but, let's not be misled - they will all still get a payrise to take them up the payspine.

The value of this payrise? Well, moving from point 1 to point 2 gives a payrise of 7.5%!

That is what every Teacher in the land will receive out of the pockets of the public - 7.5%!!! Yes, 7.5%!!

Just wait till they start moaning about not getting a general rise and you can throw this back at them!

It's a disgrace that they think they are hard done by! And they all genuinely do! Which is really worrying!

A bit OT but is that how you see the purpose of the education system?

Should kids be taught duplicity, how to lie? These skills are beneficial in the corporate world for sure.

And not for career politicians? Surely they are the most experienced of proponents of such a philosophy.

You're not wrong. Education has been a political football for years, forever being burdened with new schemes, programs etc by successive governments and education ministers keen for their vanity projects.

I think this is half the problem, too much chop and change and politicalisation.

Not a teacher personally so i'd have to check.

And err.. at what point did I say you were lying? Could you point that out to me?

Fact is, throughout this thread you've tarred EVERY teacher with the same brush.. A little unfair don't you think?

And seriously, is EVERY thread you start whinging about something, because it certainly seems like it. I pity you, I really do.

That brush being what?

If you mean the brush which says that Teachers have a very good deal and will still have a very good deal with the required Pension changes - then YES, guilty!

Thanks Shaun.

You will note, dear readers, that a spine point rise is around 7.5% .... this is what ALL Teachers get each and every September!!

Some Teachers go up TWO payspine points if they have been very good - that's a 15% payrise!!

It's about damned time that Teachers stopped pleading that they are hard done by!! It really boils my blood seeing them bleating about their lot!!

How many of YOU will get a 7.5% payrise this year, just for doing you job? I would hazard a guess that the only reward people in the outside world get for doing a good job is that they get to KEEP that job!!

Nothing against Teachers - just massively against the 'perception' they give out that they are being treated unfairly ..... when those who pay their wages and Pensions (you and I) have to live in the Real World where things are tough and unfair!

So, in conclusion, when a Teacher bleats on that they have no annual payrise this year, just ask them what they call their 7.5% annual rise up the pay scale!!??

Why dont you look at it in simple facts 'Pete'.

Teacher's arent moaning about their pay scales. Like alot of other jobs, they get a pay rise every year for 6 years so long as they meet the requirements set. At which point, unless they aim for 'promotion' in effect, they dont get leadership points and stay at that level.

The reason for striking is that there are plans to give pension that's simply not as good as the current one. EXPLAIN TO ME WHY YOU THINK THEY SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO DO THAT?

My wife's wage works out to just over £9 an hour for working a circa 50 hour week. OH YES PETE, SHE'S SO SPOILT... Does she sit on websites all day annoying people, whinging and moaning about everything the Sun newspaper comes up with? Nope. She earns it, and more.

So in conclusion, you're a daft sod

Thats my last comment on the matter, feel free to go and write more innane bollocks on things you have no facts on and chose to twist.

Now, where's my pipe...

Im not a teacher, so that doesnt concern me.

Here's a tip if you want to work it out for yourself, go and read up on the matter from some credible sources, and not trolls on here.

Oh, and I work for the government arm of private web design agency
