Trip to the US - anything worth buying cheaper over there?

Was not going to comment BUT as it is Houston (which I know very well) then I will.
I was there about 2 weeks ago and did my usual trip to the Galleria at Westhemer (huge shopping Mall). It is defined on all four corners with the big stores such as Macy's, Nieman Marcus, Saks 5th Avenue etc.
If you ask in Macy's they will issue you with a card which will give you 15% off (as a foreigner).
However, they often have Sales which give a blanket 25% off everything in store.
At that point, their excellent men's clothing department is real value for money and I think I spent circa $2500 that weekend. My extra suitcase therefore came in handy.

Cheers Dave, was planning a trip to the Galleria, I'm just off the Katy FW so not far away. Have you been to the Katy Mills outlet village? I've a whole weekend to myself, care to suggest anything - preferably legal (ish).

I tried it when I went to the states not long ago. Now I'm a big chocolate eater and I'll pretty much eat any type of chocolate but this stuff is just horrid!

I dislike Hersheys chocolate... by itself,
but when its mixed with peanut butter for the Reese's confectionery ..
As others have said, when the exchange rate was better, it made sense to buy stuff out there. We both got Tags' and my other half got some camera lenses etc, but you dont save as much anymore
If you know anyone who is into clothing such as Abercrombie, Hollister etc, then it is cheaper to buy stuff out there than the stores over here

(showing off) I was in New York last week.
clothes and shoes are cheaper. food and drink, plus tips was terribly expensive.
was quite happy for the wife to do a bit of shopping, but there is a limit as too how much you want to do to penny pinch when yr on yr hols. i.e time v money v standing in bloody dept stores by changing rooms.
she did get a calvin klein dress for just $70 which was a bargain. but then again she is a size 6, so in the land of the obese, maybe bargains like that were easy for her.
maybe less so if yr on the lardy size perhaps ?
