Trip to the US - anything worth buying cheaper over there?
Going to the US next month, is there anything anymore that's particularly cheaper over there than it is in the UK. In my experience, if you do your research, the UK is pretty good for prices nowadays.
Thought Ipads might be cheaper, but a quick look suggests they're more or less the same price.

I go to the US every month or two and things are a little cheaper but not as much as it used to be as the exchange rate is around $1.60 = £1 and quite a few states have increased their sales and county tax (I pay nearly 10% just outside of San Francisco).
I tend to buy clothes for my children as Macys have constant sales and I can get a tourist 11% off even from most of the sale prices.
I bought an iPad and saved £40 or so over the same model here (I didn't pay import duty or anything else of course, which if you did would take it to around the same price).

We travel to the USA regularly. In the last few years it has become clear that prices have risen enormously (add in the exchange rate impact) We've also noticed that the quality of clothes has dropped enormously - even at high end shops.
I'll be investigating this to see if it is any cheaper in the good old US of A

Find a Burlingtons factory outlet and Buy Ed Hardy T-Shirts. Cheap here, but you can sell them on E- Bay for alot more than you paid.

Thanks for the replies, sort of confirms my suspicions, that there's not much difference in prices, in general, between the UK and US. The UK seems to have become more competitive in the last few years, whereas the US and the traditional cheap parts of Europe have become more expensive.
Will probably have a look at some of the big retail malls and see what grabs my attention.

I was there about 2 weeks ago and did my usual trip to the Galleria at Westhemer (huge shopping Mall). It is defined on all four corners with the big stores such as Macy's, Nieman Marcus, Saks 5th Avenue etc.
If you ask in Macy's they will issue you with a card which will give you 15% off (as a foreigner).
However, they often have Sales which give a blanket 25% off everything in store.
At that point, their excellent men's clothing department is real value for money and I think I spent circa $2500 that weekend. My extra suitcase therefore came in handy.

Was not going to comment BUT as it is Houston (which I know very well) then I will.
