I bought a GT-r over a year ago. Amazing car , but very expensive to maintain and service etc. I put on a set of non runflats and a big service at litcho's couple of month ago £1860 plus the gear box went into limp mode on the way up there . It ended up being a bad design by nissan on the piston and the selector fork in the gearbox, wasnt a big job for them to fix, they just drained the oil, took the gearbox sump off and attached some metal clips to hold the piston within the selector fork , refilled the gearbox with oil , and plugged the laptop to the gearbox software to re learn, took them an hour and a half to do . Price was £600 for attaching a couple of clips , but try taking it to your local garage and ask them to fix that gearbox problem But after all it is a pretty good car to drive around the place. Now my front discs and pads need replacing, £1300

I didnt think AP discs and pads would run 1300......
Definitely not a cheap car to run, but I wouldnt choose any other

I have had mine for just over 2 years and never had anything major go wrong. Some lights (replaced under warranty) and the bell-housing (could have been done under warranty, but I chose to pay so I got the Litchfield modified part)... although I have bought new wheels and done a few other bits brakes are on my list as well.

I'll get a price on discs tomorrow for you , I was gathering prices a couple of weeks ago for all the different makes
My front discs need changing , I'll probably go for AP ones , will go from standard 380mm to 390mm , would have gone for the Alcon 400mm discs but they seem to have issues with juddering

I am still considering my options, I am considering a set of 18" wheels for track wheels and tyres, but when I have to stay at 380mm discs.
I havent looked in a while, but according Litchfield:-
http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/N...san_gtr_brakes
£605+vat
Ian, I would interested in prices as well please

Well figured it was time for an update....
Just passed 13000 miles and finished a 1200 mile road trip through France and still love this car! Had a minor issue with the CEL coming on, but Sly sorted that easily - O2 sensor.
Sly has fixed a few of my dash rattles and fitted a set of Eibach rollbars.
RyanG then updated the EcuTek to the latest firmware and rebuilt the map - fantastic service from Ryan as normal
The new firmware is noticeably better with regards to traction control (doesnt cut in as hard in R mode) and down gearing. The 2nd to 1st down gear is almost seamless, its great 2nd gear has a fantastic kick to it, really throws your head back!
Following the map update from RyanG I dropped the car off at Valet Magic for a detail and some other small things. Robbie gave me a great deal on what I have just had done and I am very happy with the result:-
*detail (touching up of a few stone chips and small marks)
*re-wrap bonnet vents (mine were looking a little worn)
*re-wrap 1 side mirror (small section was peeling)
*big mouth front
*removal of rear wing and wrap the bootlid (just cover the open bolt holes, while I decide if I like the look of the car without the spoiler - this is only for on the road and I will be getting a custom spoiler made up for track use)
I really like the big mouth front and the rear look is growing on me more and more

Each to their own and all but I like it more and more every time I see it. The idea though, is that this look is only a temp solution. This is just to see if I like the look of the car without the rear spoiler, which I do. Next, will be to do a bit of a custom duckbill on the OEM bootlid and then get it painted to match. That will be the road look......... for the track it will have a custom spoiler that is removable

This is my dream car. Saving for deposit on one atm, hoping by next summer should be able to get one..
Just a few questions, car will be a weekend toy only max 4k a year, just wondering on running costs per year? What's the best year to go for? Heard early models had gearbox issues?
Thanks Ryan

If you drive em pretty hard mpg is gonna be 8 - 14 drive them as economicaly as possible and get 30 - 35 mpg .
I managed to get 35 mpg at the end of a 30 mile trip where the road was mainly flat , keeping it in top gear and not going over 55 mph.
Set of tyres are £1500 fitted
Front discs and pads £1300 fitted
Service every 6 month reguired - big service £850
Small service £200
Im 31 yrs old , Have 9+ yrs no claims and my insurance is £850 with sky insurance but they insist you must have a tracker which is an extra £140 subscription per yr
Also super unleaded only
Expensive car to run and maintain but its very special car to own and its imposible to get bored with its performance. It instantly makes me very happy within 1 mile down the road .
Mines a 2009 , totally standard . I dont care who they are , if they can say that they can drive them in standard form to the limit and they need more power then they are liyng or they have bollox made of granite

I do 5000 miles pa, it has been cheap to run. Servicing is 10p/mile, tax 9p/mile, insurance 6p/mile, tyres 7p/mile, brakes 5p/mile, fuel 33p/mile, so about 70p/mile excluding depreciation which has been about 100p/mile over the first 4 years and I guess about 65p/mile over the second 4 years, the lower depreciation I guess being offset by unscheduled repair costs if unlucky.
An Evo 9 is just as much fun with half the running costs except fuel which is similar, and the Evo makes too much noise. When I completely replaced by Evo gearbox it was £700 for a pristine 2000 mile example. Equivalent on the GTR would probably be 10 times that.

Lucky you getting 25% off the asking price, your friend is practically losing £8750 off a £35k car!
Mine was already tuned when I got it, the previous owner only had it done the month prior to selling it, 620bhp but I never have it set in that mode. When I got it I reset the economy monitor when I got it and after 3000 miles it's averaging 22mpg.
I agree with John C, you can't get near unleashing the full potential of even a standard GTR on the road, you'll need to do a track day or three.
However, one caveat to the 'power' issue, you do start to get used to it as you always seem to.

I have never paid £800 for a service... I have also never used Nissan for a service either. My car has been maintained by Sly @ KaizerMotors only. I spend a "little" extra with every service to get a few more parts added. I prefer adding in small sets rather than all at once (I get to see what I am buying, I dont go too far, etc).
MPSS tyres are about £325 each the last time I bought.
Standard brakes have lasted nearly 14k miles and still going strong...
Modifying the GTR is VERY (and I do mean VERY) expensive compared to other cars (Subaru, Supra, etc), especially when you get above stage 4. Stage 4 seems to be the level most people stick to... I personally I am very happy at stage 4 and would rather spend on the handling, brakes and driver instruction before going for more power.
Taking the GTR on track can very expensive with regards to the consumables, fuel (doesnt last long), tyres and brakes. Which is why I am looking at 18" track wheels (more options on tyres, cheaper, etc) for the few track days that I will do and then a dedicated track car.

Is there anything then to recommend the GTR over the Evo 9?

Running costs are pretty much the same as my 500hp subaru...
Tyres are nigh on £1300 for mine
Servicing costs are high, and the obviousl reliability issues
Brake discs and pads for the Ksports are nearly 1k,
Suspension rebuild 1k
Exhaust manifold 1k
There isnt alot in it, the benefit with the subaru is if you are handy and have space and time alot of the work can be done yourself, where as on the GTR it cant
