For those who want to remove the gearbox/engine, here's the cap to remove from behind the starter motor, use a 10mm allen key socket to remove this

And using an M8 (I think) bolt, I used one holding my coilpack to the Inlet Manifold, screw into the pin inside the hole and slowly slide it out
then you can remove the clutch release fork

good luck with the build
Merv having come out at the other end of a project like this I'd like to offer the following advice:
Define your goals now and stick to them. Don't let what I call feature creep set in and decide to go for bigger goals. It WILL cost you thousands and delay you months possibly even a couple of years.
I started out doing a modest build and look where I ended up, 3 years later I hasten to add.
Good luck though but be prepared for some ups and downs.
There will be downs mark my words. Stick with it though as the rewards when you've ironed out the niggles that you'll inevitably have and got it running right afterwards are tremendous!!!

The final bill is likely to be nearer £30k but that is doing 120%.
My moto is do it once do it right!

Tbh the spec in my first post is set in stone for me
the 2.1 is tried and tested by myself in my old Blobeye so I know that works for me! After speaking to Martyn and Alan @ EngineTuner I've decided on the SC46 turbo as it's affordable and will put out the power I want. I need a 6 speed to handle the power too
Everything else on the car will be cleaned and if decided it needs replacing, I'll replace it!

Managed to get the engine out yesterday! I've got a lot of stuff to clean up in there
thinking I may have to get it sprayed a some point! I'll see how it comes up after a spring clean first!

I've removed the gearbox, prop and diff today to sell, next on the list will be to clean under the car and to Hammerite the hubs and a few other bits!
I'll also get the struts off and clean and repaint them! I'll be getting the engine bay repainted too, not whether to keep it white or go black?

I would be happy to paint your bay if you don't have a painter already that is
I run a mechanical/bodyshop with my father.

Cheers for the offer Ry, if I was closer then I would've taken you up on it
it won't be getting done for a while yet but would only be able to keep it local until I can get an engine in it

Bit of an update, not really done much since working loads during the Summer and having crap weather on my days off!
Managed to get my 6 speed DCCD box in today, with a slight problem. One of the holes for the front cradle mount has rusted and there's no thread there

What do you guys think, either get a nut welded onto a plate and get it welded in place or just weld the cradle into place?
I've got some of these too, once I've painted the hubs and bought new discs they will be going on.

Also I've changed the spec slightly!
Managed to source an EJ22T so I'll be going with a built 2.35 at Engine Tuner with a Blouch turbo, possibly Dominator 3.0 XT-R!
Think I need to change the title of the thread to Project 500-R

Good luck there
Jura
If you are going for Blouch Dominator 3.0XT-R,they're available in two exhaust housing there: 8cm and 10cm.
As many people said 8cm will be have better spool, but lower top end,10cm will be have slower spool and higher top end

I just knew you wouldn't stick to the spec once the work was under way
mind you I'm no good at sticking to the script either.
Good luck with the build.
ps I wish I'd gone down the 2.0/2.1 or 2.2/2.35 route myself now.

Well the EJ22 was pretty much presented to me
just gotta pay for the bits now!
Fuel swirl pot and Bosch 044 pump will be in the boot, as will the battery, covered up
Next job is to paint the hubs and get my front discs from Godspeed! Hope the weather stays dry!!
Ty, since when have I done less than what I've said lol!

Very best of luck Merv, i can only echo Dazs comments as i too am a veteran project'er LOL.
My build was essentially a forged motor using a 2.5 base and a 450/450 target to make a torquey road motor. That kinda spiralled rapidly out of control and if id known what i know now, i would have built a 2.35l from the off.
Having probably encountered alot of issues you may come across , dont hesitate to give us a bell if you get stuck..

Cheers Frayz
A lot of the prep work will be done myself to save some cash but all the engine work will be left in EngineTuners's more than capable hands!
I was gonna text you regarding fixin my melted wiring loom which runs in frot of the headers! How would you recommend repairing?
Merv
