As my Version 5 Type R is off the road now due to a knackered engine, I thought I'd do a wee thread to detail my progress with it. Before the engine letting go, it was a nice comfortable 330bhp. Not one to enjoy an easy life
I've decided to do a complete refresh of this awesome car! I wasn't far off breaking it but advice and help from people on here and my Fiance I decided to keep it and turn it into a mint condition beast!
I'm getting married in December so will be juggling my cash between that and the car, the Mrs even wanted to call it off and spend the cash we have saved on the Scoob
but I'd rather get it done properly and take my time. Hopefully it'll be on the road for show season 2012
Here she is at the minute

I've taken the front brakes off to make way for Brembos
The suspension will be coming off soon to tidy up somewhat

I'll be removing the engine at some point as I'm selling the 5 speed DCCD box and fitting a 6 speed DCCD
Parts I'll be selling to raise some funds
Blue Samco hoses ( Coolant and Ancilleries )
AF 20g Turbo ( possibly )
4 pot brakes with SUBARU on them
5 speed DDCD box with driveshafts, prop, diff and Clutch/flywheel
My plans for it
2.1 Stroker in CDB with Cosworth pistons.
Possibly SC46 Turbo
6 speed DCCD
Brembo upgrade
Nice and tidy engine bay ( de-blinged )
Battery relocated in the boot
Whiteline goodies all round
General tidy up of underbody, engine bay and interior

Good luck mate with the project
I'm in the same boat with my type r, it's been off the road since last june as I'm carrying out a forged 2.5 build but money is tight as I'm getting married In June so progress is slow.
.
What power you looking for or is the sc46 the giveaway?

Progress will be slow but I'm not too bothered as I've got time on my side at the minute. Once winter hits I'll be working more as being a Heating Engineer demand ramps up quite a bit
Good luck with yours buddy
Anywhere around the 450 mark will be a good result, my last Scoob was running 475/460 and was nuts!!

Cheers mate, what's the 20g like as i'm not sure what turbo to go for, will I be happy with it at around 400 or should I be looking at a md321t series or an sc46 like you are? Havn't experienced any other than my vf24
Merv having come out at the other end of a project like this I'd like to offer the following advice:
Define your goals now and stick to them. Don't let what I call feature creep set in and decide to go for bigger goals. It WILL cost you thousands and delay you months possibly even a couple of years.
I started out doing a modest build and look where I ended up, 3 years later I hasten to add.
Good luck though but be prepared for some ups and downs.
There will be downs mark my words. Stick with it though as the rewards when you've ironed out the niggles that you'll inevitably have and got it running right afterwards are tremendous!!!

but I did have one on my old Scoob, it was running 380bhp courtesy of JGM and thought it was a very good Turbo, a touch of lag but a nice kick, I just had to change my style of driving slightly. It'll be for sale once I get it off if you're interested
The reason I opted for the 20g is because I knew the engine and box wouldn't handle much over 400bhp in the R, so now I'm going big build and 6 speed, f**k it

The spec I've outlined above is pretty much set in stone, the engine will be last to get sorted so that will give me the motivation to get everything else ready !
I've already had the biggest down, the engine letting go in a car I've only had 2 months or so
Hopefully wont be downs bigger than that! I understand that I'll come across a lot of niggles, it's part of the fun!

My only comment would be to consider AP 4 pots, as they are way lighter than Brembos... and then there is the issue of wheels and clearance.

I've got Newage STi wheels so clearance won't be an issue! I'll see how I get on with the Brembos first, I had the chance to get some 330mm K Sports but the disc and pad had some uneven wear so I left them!
