There is no referrence to Japanese import's in those articles, It is assuming that the car was built for the european market as far as I can tell There seems to be a lot of conflicting information

there is, kind of, those vehicles are not in the database or the in service emissions book so its a cat test using default limits according to the chart

That's the complete opposite to what I was told I was under the impression if they had no records of it in their database then it could be done as a non cat test, Maybe it has changed in the last 2-3 years, Wouldn't surprise me, Seem's a bit backwards though

Any car that was manufactured with a cat, then needs a cat. Good luck....

Surprise surprise lol, i put her in for mot yesterday and she failed on emmisions and number plates (spacing of letters) .

So will get cat fitted today new plates, brake pipes was an advisory so will be doing them aswell. then back in for retest. Other than that she is fine

Couldnt even be persuaded by showing him i had a cat for it.

I'll check when I get to work, i think, if it had a '92 engine swop at some point  that a non cat test should be carried out as it's a pre cat engine

It is pretty simple. The flow below shows. When you get to the last diamond, if your vehicle IS an import you must answer NO. Note the phrase 'exact match'. The Emissions Handbook/database ONLY hold information on UK/EU vehicles and therefor an 'exact match' CANNNOT be found for any import.
