It isn't racing if you slap them down and leave them in your dust...
But slightly more seriously, I have had a play with a well known (very quick) M3 owner on here and I could keep up fine with 340 bhp...
Yesterday I came out of York drag-way behind an AMG Merc, 6.3 it said on the tin....
At first straight we came to off I went, past him and something else, at the next junction he was quite a way back, I went right towards York he later went left going South.
It didn't look that special on the drag strip, nor on the bumpy B-roads coming out... I wasn't racing anyone, but those roads are great for a quick blast.
dunx
P.S. no speed limits were harmed in the making of this story...

M3 - awesome cars
STI - awesome cars
Both totally different - both standard - M3 everyday (on a track)
Have a quick blast, and have a laugh thats what its all about. Keep within your limits. Its fairly easy to see if the driver following you or in front of you has a clue about driving. If they don't I back off. I'd hate someone to crash racing me.
The point about cars gettin up your ***, I think any cars do that. If i'm honest women drivers are the worst for it. They don't want to race they're GENERALLY just clueless about driving - flat out in first - flat out in second - then sit at 50. I can't afford the petrol to do that all day everyday...

I had a little blast with the new shape m3 yesterday, whist plodding home from Watford I look in my mirror and I just see a big "bulge" from the bonnet anyway I showed him what a Scoob can do,
Blew it away he gave me the hands up which was nice haha
Normally the m3 and Aston owners put there head down,
The m3 don't come close
Darc

LOL i think on the hole your 'average BMW' is more of a *** than your 'average subaru driver'
not saying you, however-just generalising in the same way you have....but i think your average road user would agree.

As mentioned above, as long as people know their limits then it's ok to a degree. But it will always wind me up when people are sat on my bumper when the roads are busy.
And I will say that I 'never' tailgate. It causes accidents and I wish the Police would sort that out, instead of clocking people doing 45 in 40 zone.

I've notice in the brief time I've had mine , there are way more people tail gating me and the worse are fecking Audi drivers , worse still they are normally oil burners.

You've got serious inadequacy issues if you're always looking for the next perceived "having a go" incident as you're driving down the road. Most so-called challenges are all in your fecking mind, or you're instigating them yourselves by the way you drive. It's just juvenile road behaviour that will end up in a serious incident, unless you're very fortunate.

The M3 would kill a standard STI in the dry.

I've had a sti Hawkeye then sold it for a e46 M3 (with smg makes a big difference in a drag race imo).
I'd say in standard forms the M3 is much quicker, but the Subaru just feels so light and chuckable and with a few simple additions, Blitz and ECUtek I was up to 340bhp, never had more fun in a car, made my M3 feel like an old mans car such a heavy lump of machine (an incredible engine in fairness) so I sold it.
Picking up my first classic later today and I'm like a kid at christmas.
You can't compare the two really, M3 is german and feels it, powerhouse engine feels like it could drive through anything, and really solid build quality.
The Subaru felt japanese, light agile and flimsy! But with a TURBO
As for other drivers, my Subaru made other drivers do the most stupid things to try and race me / prove something. The M3 was fine, no body bothered me in it.
