Sounds very much like Andy lol. He's a very competitive soul, if it breaks he comes back bigger, stronger and better.

He ran a 13.4 Compared to my 14.2 at the pod. Both launched pretty well too. We had three runs together and every time his car was about a second quicker. We even swapped cars for a run to make sure it wasn't down to driver. On the road his car was quite a bit quicker.
Also, STI deffinately used different intercoolers over the WRX. I remember comparing them. STI one sits differently, is larger and silver compared to black. STI also got quick shift box, same ratios but with alot less throw. I also thought the STI used a superior turbo to the WRX, might be wrong though.

It was silver yes but no better than the wrx core, the very very slight improvement(if any) came from the turbo/intercooler hose and both used TD05's and 380cc injectors....as said it was the ecu's that were different.
The early STI's were just rebranded WRX's, the Version 3 was the first proper STI.

From the research I have done, the first STI known as 'the STI version' differed quite significantly from the WRX.
It had a closed deck cylinder block, forged pistons, steel crankshaft, bigger valves, updated intercooler, bigger radiator and better turbo. Also came with Fujitsubo part stainless exhaust with wider bore, sodium filled manifold, free flowing larger silencers and a 3" wide tail pipe.
These are things the same year WRX didn't come with and I though the STI V2 carried some of these over.
I may well be wrong but this is just information I have read.

9 pages of non sense. I owned an 05 WRX and now a 57 STI the STI will no doubt or marketing ploy about it annihilate the WRX all day long.

I don't think WRX and STi is comparable!!!! WRX drivers really need to own a STi to understand Why,,,, Used to own a JDM V7 WRX then a V8 STi Type UK... STi is alot quicker if not miles better and better to drive in every way every gear every day so onnnnnnnnnn

Just look at the Subaru brochures.....they state the facts and figures. Why would we want to debate anything which is available on paper, written by the people who designed the cars???

If the STi figures were bloated, several car mags would have picked that up during their own road tests of these cars.......but they didn't.

Most agree PPP figures are extremely well off why not STI/WRX? MONEY TALKS MY FRIENDS.

Also huge car making giant Honda spewed massive amounts of garbage with the new Type R, the former smashes it in all respects.

Only one way to settle it if anyone local to each other has a standard blob WRX and STI, no point saying 'I had both, STI felt faster' as short ratio gears would make it feel faster.

OMG this is still going

The fact is all things being equal the standard STI will be quicker, not by that much, but it will be quicker. It won't 'destroy' the WRX or any of those other silly verbs people use as there just isn't enough difference between them in power/weight etc.

As someone on here said you need about another 100hp over a similarly weighted car to see an appreciable difference between two cars. Other than that all the other variables come into play... the driver, the gearing, road conditions, mechanical sympathy etc.

I owned a CTR and in the right circumstances could keep up with a standard WRX easy enough, but it all depended on those circumstances.

When people come on a forum like this and say things like 'my WRX leaves STIs for dead' it is clearly not logical as it is against the laws of physics. What they mean is that they met a few STIs on the road who were caught napping or didn't want to play etc.

just outa intrest i did own a WRX-S and now own an STI, and although the STI is of course faster, the differance in feeling IE torq/ foot down smiles, theres not much Init, they were both standard running at 255 and 296 so 40bhp ish diff not really that much, also the WRX-S was lighter im told

Now as i went from an Astra VXR to the WRX-S the differance was exceptional, no lag full on power great.

1 thing that was diff and as you all know the WRX needs alot more doing to go anywhere, the STI has the nice bits on it so has more potential.

not many cars make me smile but this weekend on the twisties my STI did, i was shocked at how facking glued to the road it was and how fast it responded out of the bends, right up to the point where the wife called me a **** and told me to slow down.

even my 3 year old in the back said Slow down daddy , dont worry i was in control and was respecting the passengers

Had my standard PPP rolling roaded at 187whp (225bhp), not quite the quoted261 power with tons more torque than an STI. AET dyno'd it and said everything was smooth and by the numbers.

I read lots of accounts of WRX PPPs seeming a false dawn. I'm sure the blob STI PPP is far more lively though, to edge it away from the WRX.

I think too many have missed the point of the thread, it's not essentially "my car is an STI killing king bring on a 450bhp one" it's a "can a stock WRX actually keep up with a stock STI up to a given speed, away from the twisties and gravel etc???"

The fact my stock powered then lightly tuned WRX has wiped the floor with every STI I've come across makes me pose the question.

They might as well have been! Probably picked a bit of krypton up in their radiators or 2 foot wide intercoolers.
