WRX STI v WRX - Traffic light king?
Has anyone ever raced up to 80ish a standard blob WRX against a Standard STI? I've read so much about each car over the last few years and how much every part weighs, I'm confidently sure a WRX would make an STI blush and the 0-60 figures for the STI are bloated to save car maker blushes. My WRX is mildly tuned and STI's inc classics can't get anywhere near it.
When you take into account the STI rear spoiler, strut brace, heavier gearbox, larger intercooler, bonnet vent, front spats, front fog covers, intercooler water spray system etc etc the WRX must have a serious advantage. Not to mention gearing more suited to straight line speed. |
STI will blitz a WRX.
|
I don't condone racing on the highway but if you fancy 'comparing' differences I'm just down the road from you.
|
The gearing in the wrx is too long, its horrid tbh, the STI will in standard form be quicker than a wrx in standard form, and I have no idea what mildly tuned is but I easily outpaced (uphill) a few years back a standard wrx in my first Spec C (I was pulling away in 6th gear, he was trying through the gears to keep up :lol1: )
Tony:) |
wat a stupid thread its like saying is a 330ci faster than an m3!!"

Having owned both, I can confirm the above :lol1: |
the stil will nail it
|
WRX's are wank end of
|
Tried both before I bought one and an Sti would eat a Wrx . Both of them were standard .
|
depends on the driver and how hard they are willing to drive it off the line.
|
I had a WRX with BHP260 and now got a STI in mostly standard form,,beleve me the STI is so much faster,,,mind ya its a JDM.......

no comparison between a newage sti and wrx in standard form. can't really say anything about classic sti's as i haven't owned one. although a mildly tuned wrx newage, say 280 bhp on standard turbo, obviously op has to state tune, a classic sti is around that i believe and 200kg lighter. |

You're deluded if you think the WRX is any kind of Match for the STI.
A classic STI will trounce your WRX "mildly tuned" or not!! No Subaru has ever got close to mine. Within 3 seconds I'm over a cars length away. STI drivers I've met must obviously change too soon and too often for the WRX's Porsche like gearing. :thumb: That said mine has been tweaked a little but the difference in performance is so great a standard WRX can't be far off low down STI acceleration, the 45 bhp extra can't make up for the weight and boost loss that much surely? |
why dont you look at the figures and facts?
|
any impreza with a different driver will be quicker but sti all the way i,ve owned both
|
STI 1480KG
WRX 1395KG That only makes up for about 20bhp but sources always seem to quote slightly different weights. I suppose only a difference of 25 BHP it's the driver, hence those who have tried both stating STI... |
Having driven neither, i don't believe for 1 second the STi would trounce a WRX. Yes it will be quicker but it will not get too far away.
In the real world, unless you have circa 100bhp over another car, you will not be fookin off down the road. |
Pointless thread. Winner will be the driver willing to hurl the most abuse through their drivetrain. The on paper difference is a couple of tenths of a second.

like i said wrx is the peasents model

I just wonder if it's the short ratio gearing that makes the STI feel so rapid compared to it's little brother. I just feel travelling at 65mph in 2nd is gonna be a handful for a lot of cars. Mind you hitting 3-4-5th gear in my car at any speed under 80 would see my sisters 1.4 Golf have a chance.
A legal 0-70 blast down the motorway slip road and my money might just go on a WRX. |
