Sorry to sound negative but if you can't afford the difference on the insurance you're probably cutting it fine on the money owning a scooby. A new set of tyres will cost best part of £500, or an unexpected engine / suspension / gearbox issue could all easily cost more than £600 to fix.

Well it turns out i can now keep my car after alot of phone calls and messing around i have managed to find fully comp, protected no claims, 12 months for £1068.93 so i make that a saving near to £500 just for setting aside some time to compare.

If anyone is interested in knowing who it is with it is Admiral and the main reason for it being that cheap is i am paying it off in full, there is no admin fee of 8% and paying off in full also gives me a discount with them.

I paid £750 21 years ago for an Audi GT, at 24 so in the greater scheme of things nothing much has changed.

And not being rude but if a £10 a week is the difference between being able to afford your car or not i would suggest you reconsider your choice of car..

I'm with admiral mate as well; Im 24 with 7years NCB and they were the cheapest for me; I even got a bit more money off as we have a multi car policy in our household so that may also be worth looking into.

Potentially very dodgy - it could be categorised as fronting if the policyholder is not actually the majority driver. You would only be a named driver for the purposes of being a secondary driver to the main policyholder or at best equal share of driving. If you are an additional named driver but they suss or even suspect you have been driving all or even most of the time, the policy could be invalidated. If the policy was invalidated under such suspicion, consider the nightmare scenario that the 'named driver' had caused an accident, written off someone else's Rolls Royce and injured/killed someone - that person could be up the proverbial creek and personaly liable for all costs and damages etc. Getting a proper fair and square policy is the only way.

..... and if the insurers suspect you're the main user they'll even go as far as interviewing your neighbours to ask who they see driving the car, and go through your service history to see who's name in on the invoices etc.
Insurers aren't as stupid as you might think.

I got caught out by this when i was 18, 10 years ago when it wasn't that much of a big deal, I bought a suzuki swift Gti and registered it in my name but got my dad to insure it and me been a named driver on his policy, low and behold i binned it into a bus station fence at "cough" 30 mph, 3 months after i bought it. Should have got paid out 3 grand but seen as though the log book and the insurance didn't tally up i only ended up getting 1500 quid, and got sued for 2 grand for the bus station fence but luckily the insurance paid out. Then i bought a 1.4 corsa sport and had to bite the bullet and pay £1500 on my own policy. lesson learn't
