Default My bad news confirmed :(

I recently posted about insurance prices jumping up massivly for me and I have now phoned all the specialst insurance groups and had no luck! At 24 with 7 years NCB I cannot find insurance for less then £1500! This is more then i am prepaired to pay as when I bought the car in febuary N.I.G (my current insurance) quoted me just less then £900 but they have since pulled the plug on private insurance policies altogether.

So to conclude I have owned the car for 2 months and now find myself having to sell it, absolutly gutted but with super being £1.40/ltr and insurance pulling my pants down its time to call it a day. Hopefully I will be back to enjoy the flat four burble when I can finally get reasonable insurance.

Cheers for the advice when i've needed it guys

Sorry to hear mate It seems everything has gone mad, from people putting in silly claims, to the petrol being almost priceless.....

All the best

£1500 at 24 isn't bad at all. I paid that 8 years ago on my Impreza, so not sure what price you're expecting to get.

If thats the guy at Keith Michaels then I have and the company they use to insure 24 year olds are not available until the middle of May. I have phoned 3 times and was told to try again later in the week, now i have been told middle of May which may end up getting changed and i have just lost interest tbh. Apparently 7 years no claims counts for nothing when you are 24.

Well I think that is expensive for car insurance! especially when I bought the car I was quoted just less then £900, I could understand if the car was worth like £8k but it isnt!

£1500 at 24 doesn't sound that bad. It's 25 when you'll notice insurance dropping a bit.
What's the model and spec of your car ??
You could try a UK car, much cheaper to insure compared to a 'proper' impreza. Think UK models are group 17..

Its a WRX UK300 completly standard. Maybe for the the type of car it is £1500 isnt too bad but its more then i am prepaired to pay on car insurance espeically when i expected it to be £900

i paid £1400 on my first high performance car, an evo 4 when i was 24 and snapped there arm off as soon as they gave me that price, i pay nearly £900 now on my v6 type r and never made a claim in 13yrs of driving, £1500 doesnt sound that bad to me, id certainly take that quote if i wanted to drive an impreza that bad.

If you haven't already, give Aviva a try for an online quote. They seem to be coming up pretty good at the moment for some reason

I've just taken a policy out with them. Fraction over £600 for the year on my bug sti with protected no claims - I'm 26 with 4 yrs NCB

I couldn't go with some of the specialist insurers due to my car not being kept in garage or on driveway, so wasn't an option for me.

- also you can get £70 cashback on topcashback.co.uk for a new Aviva policy. (anyone who doesn't know about topcashback or quidco, really you need to have a look they are really good money savers for things like insurance, mobile/electricity/gas contracts, sky TV etc. )

if you cant sell the car for the price you paid for it 2 months ago are you going to reconsider? just that getting rid to save money and losing money on the car could be a false economy.

Illegal.

Google "Insurance Fronting"

Nothing wrong with someone else having a car registered to them and you insuring it as the main driver and being the policy holder, but what you suggest is illegal.

Mods was quoted 1200. That's 12k a year. 4 years ncb. Both parents on the policy aswell. I actually pay 1450 with my mods.

It's illegal if you are the main driver.

This is very true what do you think a 2001 wrx uk300 is worth? done 74k new engine by APi 10k ago with all reciepts still original body work and wheels few minor scuffs?

I was looking to get my dad to insure it as the main driver then being put on it as a named driver, do you have to change the log book to his name? How would they know who is the main driver i cant see anyway they can find out how many miles each named driver has covered? If the worst does happen and i crash it then they surely wont be able to prove who is the main driver?

I dont want to go down that road tbh im sure they will find a way to make it void but would be interested to know how!?

Try getting the online quote - you can add mods etc to your policy online and I believe that you get 12 weeks free doing it online (equiv to almost 25% off)

Also add one of your parents on as a named driver even if it is unlikely they will ever drive it. There is no problem with doing this - as long as you stipulate that you are going to be the main driver. Putting my Dad on knocked over £100 off of my quote.

Good luck

Do what I suggested in my last post and put one of your parents on as a named driver. As opposed to getting the insurance under your parents name and putting yourself as a named driver - it's a minefield and you risk voiding your policy

£1500 quid is quite reasonable at 24 tbh, if you want unreasonable then 900 quid for a 1.9 120ps astra diesel at 42 with full ncb, count yourself lucky!

If you need to claim you will find yourself in a very bad place mate. No point lying to yourself, read up on it, it's fact. You as good as uninsured in the event of a crash.

Interesting read on insurance 'fronting'....

Aviva would not quote me at 24, but at 25 with 8 years NCB it was £2k lol

When I got my first impreza at 24 I paid £2000 for my insurance so £1500 isn't bad, but I don't blame you for not wanting to pay it mate. Hope you are back soon
