sky vs virgin...no contest!!!!
The only issue I've had with Virgin was with my broadband, kept losing signal from the main box. Had 2 or 3 egineers out to have a look all of whom said we'll go and switch channels and put yours on highest one. It would work for about a day then stop again. Eventually a decent egineer came around and said there is a kink in the line somewhere and it needs a re-pull. That was another week later. Since then its fine and I constantly get 20mb or thereabouts. Oh i'm on XL TV, Broadband and phone. does this mean i'd be entitled to HD Tivo aswel? I already Have 1 HD+ box and one normal HD box.
I think eventually everyone who is with Virgin will get Tivo eventually as they will replace all the boxes at somepoint.
As far as I can tell from reading on line, you had to pre register just to 'be in with a chance' to be offered one.
I did this last month and was told I was one of the lucky ones to be selected. But I was like a kid at Christmas and registered asap, so unless you did all that last month, sadly I don't think you will be getting one. Not just yet anyway.

Tivo is scheduled for Monday 11th at present. 100Mb broadband is also being rolled out over the course of the year.
Rumour has it that Sky are about to release a multi-room Sky HD Lite box (without the pvr features), though you'll still have to pay an extra £20 odd per month.

No discount, but they said if we have the box we can upgrad to 50meg for a few £'s, which I wI'll probably need to do.
You may be able to wrangle this:

I've got 'L'. 10Mb via cable with no capping issues.
I need to download something like 3gigabytes! The only reasonable way thats possible to exceed your 1GB hit limit is if you are downloading movies (honestly!) or your computer(s) have a virus and are being hijacked.
No issues. With exception my Scientific Atlanta box is getting a bit old and crusty; The Samsung boxes are far superior, both in looks and performance.
I'm guessing you've been given a Pace box - they are terrible, have been since the day they were issued. Samsung boxes are far far faster.
As for installers. Gamble with either company. You should see the attrocity outside my Gran's flat that a sky installer fitted (giant rusty second hand looking pole and bracket). The hard rules is ALWAYS be present when you have a installer round for ANY service, be it gas, electric, BT, Sky, Virgin, whatever. Otherwise you leave yourself wide open for the fitter to take the opertunity to use the 'easy' or 'fast' route in getting the job done, and that usuallys mean running cables where you do not want them.
One thing you can be sure of though; if it goes wrong, they fix it for free....no £65 call out charges

Easy .. free upgrade to a complete stranger on a forum calling me ****
I had Sky for around 8 years and moved to Virgin around 2 years ago, I have to say I much prefer Virgin to Sky, we find the catch-up on demand stuff really useful, yes it can be a little slow at times, and I have the Samsung box, but I can live with that.
Gutted I missed the registration for the Tivo though, watched the demo and I'd love that.
I'll have to wait until it comes into general release.
