Pipe is just an exhaust extension. Stops the fuel splattering the rear wheel.

As for the brakes, I assume its disc brakes off the centre gear. Check that when you pull the brakes the pads close on the disc. When not running but radio on, put the brakes on and push the car forward with your hand. If the wheels keep rotating the brakes aren't working (obviously)

Check pad wear on the calipers. Check the cams aren't worn (the linkage should rock the cams round, pushing the pads against the disc) there should be some adjustment on the brake/throttle linkage.

It could be the servo just isn't up to the job. For good operation you need a meaty servo that can yank the brakes hard.

Another good tip for a nitro car is put the neck of a balloon around the engine and the throttle linkage. If you lose contact the servo will be pulled back by the balloon neck and engine should go to tick over. If the servo has a hard time moving with the balloon neck its not man enough.

nitro 5litres = £20-£25

you ca buy batterys cheaper that run longer and as fast.

I was thinking the same, but after talking with the guy in the hobbystore he said I'd be remembering the old 7.2v batteries of 25yrs agao when i had a tamiya that only lasted 20mins, now LiPo batteries are as fast as nitro and run as long.

a 75cc fuel tank on a nitro car could only last 20mins.... the same as a battery.

Then work out the cost to run!

I'm planning on getting about 4 batteries. You can get themon line from Germany for about £20.. so i've been told

Plus the messiness of Nitro has now put me off.

I'm off work ill at the moment so have managed to get my old Optima Mid running.
It goes like hell and my 3 year old daughter loves it! I need two things though, a new ariel for the Attack R and new standard body shell.

Just been back in the loft and found a Subaru Brat body shell I had on the monster beetle. Might modify it to fit the Optima today.

I went into the HobbyStore in Beeston, on the High Road.
(GEE-DEE's only have Tamyia now, GT Models at sandiace have a good selection but a bit higher price, ModelZone in the Braodmarsh.. well wasn't impressed, Xnitro on line have good selection and prices too)
The HobbyStore had a great bunch of guys in there, proper hobby-ists and not salesmen.
Good prices too.
I've priced cheaped the XTM Rail Buggy else where.. and they's £3 in it. Plus the one they sell has the better 2.4ghz controller.

modelsport website sells teh GV CAGE.. same car but doesn't have teh 2.4ghz controller and the review on that is ppl said its worth upgrading.

after watching stuff like this, I want one now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwsq6...layer_embedded

"Holy epic bumpsteer Batman" lol! Looks good in the videos but he rips it to pieces in the review doesn't he. Deffo think brushless is the way to go though, lot less hassle than nitro, also easier to use in built up areas as they are not as noisy.

Interesting thread.
Anyone that's into RC cars care to have a guess at what this might be worth now? I've had it for many many years and still have original box it came in.
It's a McLaren (obviously!). It has a .15 engine, two speed box, fan cooled, 4 wheel drive ( 4wheel on-drive, 2 wheel, off drive) etc etc.

All bushes were replaced with bearings (in the hubs etc). Was used once, stripped and rebuilt and never used again 'cause it cost a lot at the time and was too good to wreck by using it. I've never seen another one, so curious if any aficionados can give an indication as to value now, though it won't be sold i guess, too much sentimental value.

It's a Kyosho Super Ten isn't it?

Kyosho and Tamiya I/C cars are usually pretty rare. Although rare doesn't always mean that they are desirable. Wouldn't like to say how much it might be worth. McLaren shells are usually more expensive plus it's in minty mint condition.

If you do fire it up - there no filter on the intake.

I've just checked the box, yes it is indeed a "Super Ten GP 4WD". It's title is "McLaren 1995 GP winner".
I 'think' there might have been an ordinary McLaren at the time on sale (different body decals?) at the time, but they maybe brought out this special edition to celebrate, I'm not sure, it was a long time ago (16 years).
If anyone knows the history I'd be interested to know.
Re: running it. Every other year or so (!), the engine does get turned over, but has had no fuel in it (bar lubrication for obvious reasons).
Just recently I used a compressed airline to clean the parts up to get rid of all the dust and was quite funny really, cause when you direct the compressed air over the tyres, you spin the whole assembly up and to hear the gear change like a high rpm F1 car is quite something and I'll tell you, there's a fair kick in the driveline when it changes gear (holding the car in your hand).
As for the filter, well, the sponge disintegrated in my hand the last time I took it out to look at it and I haven't been able to find anything authentic enough yet to replace it. At present all that's in there is a dense foam from a sponge which i cut up using a holesaw to give me the roundness of a filter that fits in there!

You can always go nitro and convert to brushless when the technology becomes cheaper and better, I've been pricing up converting my hyper since this thread and it can be done for a couple of hundred quid but I would spend more doing it to a higher spec. I've still got 10 litres of fuel to get through yet so I will look into it again when I'm getting low! You could always go for the likes of a hyper and see how you go, you would be getting an excellent starting point to get into rc and the are a lot of car for the money, the engines are easy to live with, parts/hop ups are readily available and fairly cheap and there's so many out there you will never be stuck for help or advice. I think brushless will continue to come down in price, when I got my hyper around 18 months ago brushless was stupidly expensive but now it can be had for not much more than a nitro.
My feeling is though that for a similar price you can get a reliable, proven nitro or an entry level brushless. It's a tough choice.

Haven't driven a brushless machine.

I like Nitro, it can be fun tuning it but can be a pain in the bum too and as you have pointed out, messier. Nitro feels a bit more "grown-up" if you know what I mean when out and about using it........but if I was to start again? I would be very tempted by the new brushless stuff available.

I would want the top of the range brushless though and it seems quite a bit more expensive. (comparing something like the REVO 3.3 Nitro and the top of the range brushless E-REVO) There may be cheaper options though.

Choice is yours, depends how in to it you really are and if you can be bothered with the additional after-run maintenance of a nitro car too.

Haven't driven one unfortunately but I think they look great.

http://traxxas.com/products/models/e...erevobrushless

4 variants of E-REVO top one is 65mph+

I run a nitro REVO 3.3 and I've had a lot of fun with it.

I've got these two models which i use just now..

The larger (Nutech Mega Monster) is a hop up 30cc version of the std truck, 4WD, alloy bits, billet, etc etc, the usual stuff and is quick, no doubt about it, but my recent acquisition, the BL Cage is quieter, quicker and can take more abuse except for one thing, tyres...

These don't last at all if you're on gravel. I get about one battery, possibly two before the tyres start going off and then start to disintegrate.

I run it on 4S Li-Po's 5300mAh, so lasts a fair length of time on track.

No doubt about it for me, I can't see why you would bother with the noise and the mess with fuels

ALAN!!!
Thats what i'm looking at.. but the USA version is called teh XTM Rail Buggy.
does yours come with the 2.4ghz radio set up?

Does it matter the Cage/Rail is all open to dust etc getting into the parts?
Would you say its a good buggy as on YouTube its been slated. cus the plastic bits that hold the alloy frame snap!

the wheel scan be swapped though can'tthey, so you can get some gravel wheels/tyres next time

Is it fast with that battery and how long running time do you get?

Cool, I'd be tempted to buy some extra wishbones though. They will probably be the first to go.
