what RC car have you got?

show me what you have..

i'd like one for my birthday but not sure what to go for,

would lik eto use it in the garden.. grass etc.
would like to have the new scooby hatch... but doesn't matter.
Don't want a tamiya like I had 25yrs ago with only 15mins of running time off a 7.2v battery

Do i need to look at ones with big wheels?

PLUS: don't want to spend loads.. can you get one £100-200 thats got everthing I need and good?

what should I look for or avoid?

b road blaster 03 April 2011 02:36 PM

i got one of these http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hy...products/30403

got it of the bay with less than 1 hrs use was unmarked and really as new paid 130 for it
came with full kit inc full tool kit, fuel, spare glow plugs ect
the only thing i have done is do away with the pull start and converted it to a starting box system only as i'm a bit heavy handed and kept breaking the pull cord
it seems very robust and dam fast

J4CKO 03 April 2011 02:51 PM

I sold my Tamiya Dark Impact recently as I find electric a bit boring after getting a Schumacher Menace Nitro.

EddScott 03 April 2011 04:04 PM

I've had loads over the years.

This I bought recently - its a Re Release Avante 2011

http://www.slotforum.com/forums/uplo...2_96_22375.jpg

Haven't decided if I'm going to build it yet.

I've got into restoration projects on old RC cars.

Currently working on an Optima Mid LWB - heres the build link.

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/inde...howtopic=61586

Starting with a SWB, only the arms and the gearbox casing will be used in the final version. It won't be one for the purists as it will use mostly aftermarket parts - although the shell will be box-design. Bit like this

http://bp2.blogger.com/_tL3VrG8BIgo/...tom+Franco.jpg

Also got an original Optima (Chain drive and engine way out the back) which will be as stock as possible. And an Egress but they are hard to come by without being silly money. The Egress is the final evolution of the Avante above.

I'm so jealous of this !! It was the ultimate RC car for Tamiya fans when I was a kid and I priced up the re-release at modelsport, a bit steep for my nostalgic tastes.

I currently run a Dark Impact and a re-release Hornet (still has the crap comedy handling). I probably should also fix the Baja Champ after my friend bent the suspension, his brain couldn't cope with the steering when it was coming back towards him :cuckoo:

Martin 2010 03 April 2011 05:00 PM

fg marder is what i used to have and makes mince meat of all grass etc.

EddScott 03 April 2011 07:24 PM

Burgerking - the Avante was alot but i had no choice. After 26 years i had to.

The Optima Mid rebuild cost isn't far behind and thats probably going to be a shelf queen. The chain Optima is going to he more as it's going to be stock so can't use aftermarket parts. Got a Vanquish on thevway which will either be my Egress base or if it's a good one clean it up and stick it on Ebay.

One lad on Tamiyaclub has all 13 Optimas brand new in box. Price would easily cover a low miles hawk sti impreza. Prices are crazy!

prodriverules 03 April 2011 07:29 PM

Ive got 2 nitro cars which tbho i haven't had out for over a year so this thread has given me a reminder to give them a blast.
Actually thinking about it i need to finish the engine build on 1 of them, putting a 2.1 in the better of the 2 cars[2.1 cc stroker kit:lol1:]
I can't wait to get them out now:luxhello:

salsa-king 03 April 2011 07:36 PM

so what should I be looking at?

I used to have the tamiya FROG, then put the bits outta that (servo's) into a Vanessa's Lunch Box.
a lad at school gave me money to go buy him the tamiya Celica (1988 ish) I built it in a few days... he broke it in 10mins!!!!!

But again, the running time was poor, being about 15-20mins.

hence why I think a nitro would be better.

some look pants though.. I want one that looks good ;)

prodriverules 03 April 2011 07:40 PM

some look really good too!!

Traxxas stuff is good in my opinion. May be out of your requested price range though unless you went second hand.

This is mine

salsa-king 03 April 2011 08:03 PM

hhhhm nice, how much are they?

is there anything on Ebay that I should look at as a good buy?

salsa-king 03 April 2011 08:07 PM

the TRAXXXXX cars?

EddScott 03 April 2011 08:26 PM

Have a read of post 37 here

https://www.scoobynet.com/872836-rc-...-2011-a-2.html

Its a brief rundown of RC cars - not complete but most of what I know anyway. My other posts might be interest too.

The new Lipo batteries can last up to an hour. Lots of folk I know changing from nitro to lipo but personally nitro 1/8 rallycross buggies are pretty awesome. Never been keen on monster trucks - 1/10 4WD buggies are my favorite class.

I haven't even any control equipment at the moment because all my cars are likely to be shelf queens.

x-helen-x 03 April 2011 08:38 PM

I have a Losi eight 2.0 nitro buggy!!
Pink wheels and shell sets it off very nicely!!

I'm really pleased you went for the Avante 2011, it's really faithful to the original and well worth the money (even though it will probably be a shelf queen).

As for what I'd actually buy and race, I'm tempted by the Associated B44 with a brushless/LiPo setup.

Hi Steve, gave up on my Dark Impact as the Radio Gear got robbed for the Nitro, speed controller fried and didnt have the interest to get it running again, prefer the Nitro thing now, otherwise would have gone brushless on the DI.

You get better and better every post!!!

Only thing with an 8ight is that it looks so dainty. Rallycross buggies should be beefy bugg3rs. Nothing better than the start of a rallycross race - can't hear a thing!

Nice car. I'd want a Durango. They look so well made - like XRay quality. I know one chap who bought one just to build it :)

salsa-king 03 April 2011 09:10 PM

this any good?

BurgerKing 03 April 2011 09:11 PM

Hi J4cko,
I'm tempted to try brushless on the DI myself although I read on the forums that you need to buy a slipper clutch to prevent it shredding the gearbox. To be honest I've not run the car in about 6 months and I need a new badminton racquet ahead of RC bits, I just like building them and doing the mechanic thing (never doing subaru spark plugs again though!!).

I've got one of these hpi cup racer, true 10 cars. I've always loved the tamiya stuff over the years but when I saw these I had to buy one.

Scroll down in the link.

http://www.hpiracing.com/kitinfo/100594/

I've got the 240z, Mine was pro built (exactly as in the link) as a display model in a model shop and had no motor or radio gear as it was just a display piece. I bought it and just have it on display so never bought the bits to run it. I think they're one of few hpi cars that will be worth something in years to come. I've got all the box and bits and pieces.

I've also got the porsche 911 body set and wheels (which I've had ages and not made up)

http://www.hpieurope.com/kit-info.ph...102075&lang=en

Not sure what finish for the porsche out of the three.

I always wanted the tamiya porsche 911 Taisan.

Wish I still had my old Tamiya porsche 959!

Im confused  So are females not allowed to know about boys toys then?
Thats where I could be going wrong - blacky the scooby and pinky the losi RC car.

I got muged of buying an ansmann terrier, which looked big and fun but broke everytime I took it over track etc, so brought the RTR Losi and cant fault it!! I do struggle with starting it, but peeps always help :thumb:

Will have to put a photo up of it. Im quiet a good girl driver when not distracted by all zooming past! But I do have to say - some are far to keen with bag/boxes of things on race day!! Madness!!

alloy 04 April 2011 08:32 AM

They know about them but not often do they want to get involved or show interest. No need to be so feminist. :)

They charge nearly enough for fuel these days!
