If you don't mind SK - can we use this thread for all things RC related?

My Ebay Vanquish arrived this morning. Gave £50 for it which I'm not sure how much they are worth - its the baby brother of the Egree and Avante that are usually £300 - £500 in good condition.

This Vanquish, although stinks of ****, has been used a handful of times since 1990. The tyres are original, unmarked but unfortunately they've perished. Can't believe how mint it is.

Will post pics up later. It was going to be the base for an Egress build but its too good to break.

When its nice and your racing, you do have to be careful not get burnt. I had very bad neck burn one meeting. Does give you a decent tan - someone asked me where'd I'd been.

Found a couple of pics of my first Nitro RC car.

Made by CEN. Good little car actually, although it's damaged at the moment. The main prop shaft linking the front and rear wheels is buckled. Must get another so it's a full runner again.

Don't know about the little things but one thing I would say is make sure you can get parts for whatever car you buy.

Not sure if its the same these days but when you used to buy cars from lesser known manufacturers, parts would be a pain. Also, everyone would break the same bit so everyone who bought them is after the same bit.

Even well known online retailers will happily sell you the car but expect you to wait 2 months for the boat to arrive with new parts.

For the little cars stick to Losi, Associated, Xray. Xray do a 1/18 nitro truck but I think its hard to get in the UK.

It's probably OK its just in the past - particularly when you got all this drop shipping cobblers on Ebay with the Kyosho Inferno clones. They were copies yet you couldn't actually use Kyosho parts on them.

Academy was another one. I actually ran the Academy SB Sport for one season. Really great car and I regularly beat other drivers with faster motors and far more expensive cars. Gave up with it in the end because parts were impossible to get. I had to buy whole cars to source the parts.

Also, for entertainment value. Tomy used to make 1/10 buggies.

The Adonis Intruder - I kid you not

Only thing I would say with Nitro and plastic cars is that the impact speeds are such that breakages are common. You'll still break a 1/8 buggy but its got some strength in it.

Pay the xtra and get the Hyper 7 - if you go for the buggy.

Edit - Heres the Vanquish for £50. Theres one on ebay now in what looks like a similar condition for £107 with 3 days left

The chassis looks worse than it actually is. Only a few scratches, it's just dirty - stinks of **** mind.

I'm pretty sure these are the box tyres. They are hardly marked but sadly perished.

Fortunately, the tyres are not glued to the rims so just need some new tyres. A new shell and a rebuild and she'll be a minter.

I have a feeling theres a bubble brewing in the Vintage RC market, its getting silly.

I was looking at the trophy but went for the hyper in the end. Parts shouldn't be a problem for the trophy as it's a hot bodies lightning, think it's just got different wheels and body IIRC, should be a good car. I have been very impressed with the hyper, it's very easy to start and tune, bit tight at first but a hair drier on the head helps to warm them up for your first start. If I was to do it again I would go for the black edition, not much more but a few parts already on which you will end up adding to the sport anyway at a later date. They are worse than impreza's too once the modding bug bites

big change of plan now..
been into a really helpful Model shop in Nottm today,
1st question was... NITRO or Brushless

.. I've come away thinking Nitro could be a bit fiddly and the cost of Fuel might not be too good.
Finding out a 'tank' of fuel lasts about 15-20mins.... about the same as a Litho battery.!!!

I was show this car... XTM Rail 1/8th buggy.
It blow me away with its looks!!!
Me now thinking going Bushless.. and I do like the look of this car.....

review on YouTube..its three parts.. but heres the 1st review part telling you about it.

Gotta admit, if the brushless E-REVO was about when I got my nitro REVO, then I think I may have gone with the brushless. Less messing about tuning but when I looked at the price of the batteries and the initial buying price it was much higher than when I got my nitro equivalent. Prices may have dropped now though.

Probably well out of your ideal spending range but the top spec E-REVO is amazing. 65mph+
