But unless you get hit on flesh or something hard that gives off a sound how would you actually know? I'm not talking sat still with pellets flying around you and one bounces off your jacket but when your legging it about, adrenalin pumping etc?

Hasnt the law been seriously tightened up for selling weapons these days ? I used to do Airsoft with modded M5's, Glock sidearms and loads of flashbangs, at Chobham, Lasham and other places in Hampshire.

You need to be 18 and have a defence to own an all black gun aka RIF (realistic imitation firearm). The easiest defence is to become ukara registered which means you have to play 3 games in not less than two months with a ukara registered skirmish site.
You can still buy two tones guns though if you're over 18 and not ukara registered.

Talking of muzzle velocity – are airsoft bound by the same laws as air rifles ie must be under 12ft lbs? From memory my Daystake MK3 .177 fires pellets out at around 750fps. So it would be some serious velocity for a 6mm BB to get up to that power.
I’m doing this for my stag do end of april – mostly due to aforementioned honesty issues when paintballing (and the fact your mask is fogged up most of the time):

I never mentioned body armour. Was thinking more of a jacket / thick jumper. I guess if you play regularly then the chances of people being honest are higher. I just think back to the times I have been paintballing and 9 times out of 10 honesty goes out the window even when playing with mates.

The sites I play at have the following limits.
340fps AEG/GBB full auto
425fps AEG semi auto only
500fps AEG/GBB bolt action
300fps AEG/GBB pistols
Snipers have a minium 25m engagement range. 80-90m can be achieved with accuracy

Really? PCP Air rifles running bang on the legal limit are struggling for accuracy after 55 yards. I used to do a fair bit of competive HFT which was 40mm killzones up to 45 yards and dabbled a bit in FT which was up to 55 yards and requires a fair bit of holdover. Any sniff of wind and you were also aiming off the killzone.

I used be big into airsoft! Loved it and especially seeing you get a nice couple of headshots at range
Here are some of my old guns - though the scope was replaced with a rather nice Trijicon ACOG so it was more realistic

You fill a chamber in the bottom with gas, and the top with columns of BB's. When you pull the trigger, a pin depresses a release valve in the bottom of the grenade and it releases the gas forcing out the BB's.
It's a riot - though at my last skirmish a 204 round grenade went off in my pocket. That hurt. A lot.

I've been a paintballer for over 10 years now (tourney and rec player) and have thought about airsoft , the concept is pretty much the same but it seems the airsoft players like to rein-act the military side of the game a bit too much ie all the exact clothing/style of a particular army regiment.
paintball is just a fun game for the majority of players I see, where to me, airsoft is a bit too serious from what i've witnessed.
