There needs to be a name for those who use the word 'troll' because they are incapable of discussion. Oh hang on, I've got one.

7 Foot, that's it.
You're quite special aren't you pumpkin.

Your scenario is one that involves ridiculous, pantomime aggression whilst declaring "Fight on!". FWIW I imagine you'd be proper scary.

I swing a leg out at a car to alert a driver to the fact he was about to run me over. As stated I couldn't use arms and he couldn't hear me shout. He did hear the bang and swerved away from me.
Self-preservation if you need to label it.
It was that or crumple under his rear wheel in what you'd probably claim an acceptably submissive fashion.

I still think you're a troll.

I'm still waiting for the 2 'experienced cyclists' to come back and explain the reasons to check the offside mirror when turning left.

I don't think you're too bright to not be able to understand but don't let that worry you. Both scenarios involve aggression, regardless of the reasoning, that is the question you posed, Tim.

OK, so to sum up, if experienced cyclists don't know their right from left then car drivers don't stand a chance.

As long as the car is indicating - this does not always happen.

True and I dispise (sp) car drivers who don't indicate even more than cyclists but if a car is sitting stationary in the middle of the road next to a right turn the cyclist should have the common sense and forsight to realise that just maybe the car is turning right.

The same as turning left a cyclist should not attempt to undertake a car whilst coming upto a left turn either, car drivers are not infalable especially whilst lost in a city and see the turn they need at the last second.

We can agree on that - foresight and consideration (plus knowledge) are invaluable

Oddly enough - I had a comment made against me for passing on the inside of a car just at a junction. I knew the road VERY well and no one ever turns into the junction at that time of day. I did however take on board the comment made.

Just to make another point from the highway code as its getting put around a little
68
You MUST NOT

•ride in a dangerous, careless or inconsiderate manner
There are 3 more on that section but thats all common sense (drink driving etc) so this works both ways.
But we could quote the highway code and pick something out for every incident, I would just suggest you look at the film again and go through it very slowly

No it's up to the Driver to check, otherwise you are saying that one has the right to cause other road users to brake unnecessarily.

Did your driving instructor never tell you to check the left mirror when turning left?

You don't pull out into a busy junction and expect other road users to give way do you?!

There are too any variables to even say whether a cyclist is aware you are going to turn left. Case in point is when a car overtakes a cyclist, slams on the brakes, indicates to turn left, the cyclist may be just about at the left hand rear corner of the car and may not see the indicators and/or have time to brake.

I am not saying it is right I am just saying that cyclists need to pay more attention, be abit more considerate and think more about self preservation. Cemetries all over the world are full of cyclists that had right of way.

I think the problem is that the cyclists that cause the problems dont come on forums to defend their actions, they are too busy doing whatever they please but that is not all cyclists, there is a middle ground between the nija teen on his BMX with no brakes and beardy Critical Mass w4nkers out to p1ss drivers off.

I tend to find the worst of either camp are the ones that only either drive or cycle, do both and it gives you perspective on the situation and allows you to make better judgements, i.e. you drive better aorund cyclists and ride better around cars.

I thinka lot of the groups that ride several abreast are usually wekend cyclists, who probably drive everywhere the rest of the week, only generally seen in summer, four grand bike, Oakley shades, never seen on a freezing Tuesday night in the rain sometime in December, groups p1ss me off, as much for the ammunition it gives the haters as the actual delay, when you weigh it up, in a car you spend more time stopped behind other cars patiently waiting than you ever do behind a bike, when you are having to wait to overtake a bike it is usually because of parked cars or cars coming the other way, not the two foot wide bike and rider. I reckon when drivign I am held up only for seconds, occasionally by cyclists, they dont stop me, just perhaps slow me down a little but then so many other things do, I tend to try and leave early and generally am never in much of a hurry, everyone seems to be in a massive hurry when in car, must be rushing to get home for the One show or to get to work to sit at their desk, or are they just rushing for the sake of it, is the cyclist something just to get annoyed at, something to get bothered about, funny how I get places pretty quickly on a bike despite it only doing 15/20 mph, a 5 second delay in a car really doesnt make that much difference but I think there is some sport involved, like kids with a daddy long legs, something to assert some power over as they are more vulnerable, not all drivers, most I find are really great but some people seem to like to try and spoil your day because they can get away with it, they dont do it to people on motorcycles the same as they can then be caught.

Also there seems to be a bit of a class/race thing about it, cyclists tend to be white and middle class (round here anyway), usually when you get some abuse its off some knuckle dragging ****** that cant understand anybody that chooses to ride a bike, they darent as people might think they are poor, similar reason to loads of jewelry and designer gear. The road rage bloke was Asian, not saying all Asian people are agressive ***** but how often do you see Asians on bikes, bike says poor and BMW says rich and successful.

It is ineviatable you will see more bikes on the road as fuel costs rise, as some people, rather than moan about it and not change their ways to suit their income just adapt.

By the way, as a cyclist I am beyond reproach but I do not meet Spoons fashion approval rating, perhaps Gok Wan needs to get involved.
