Seems to do quite well on the bad roads so far.
Steering needs a bit of getting used to as I optioned something called active integrated steering. Helps the car turn in tight spaces but feels a little different.

Well picked up the car today, god it's big! Definitely feels bigger and heavier than my E60, it will take a bit of getting used to.
Engine feels really punchy except for some reason it doesn't feel quite as smooth as the 530d I had as a weekend demo. Is this my imagination or could it be because the engine is still a little 'tight'
Some of the new toys are nice, the voice control works much better than the one in my M5. Making a call via the voice control worked perfectly, it recognised all my commands and gave me really sensible prompts.
The surround view gives a complete birds eye picture of the car, really quite useful.
Oh and thanks on the advice given re; compensation. They couldn't have been more helpful and basically asked me what it would take for me to walk away happy. I think one should be reasonable when others are being so and asked for £200. He agreed and that was that.
My outlook is that the £300 I was going to spend on the detail anyway, the £200 they have given will buy me another mini detail in 6 months time or pay to have the car professionally cleaned every month for the next 4 months.

although that first scratch is going to hurt - but maybe the detail helps protect it
either way hard as it is, it is only a car (I use to watch a guy walk around his new merc 4 or 5 times every time he parked it -- then walk away, then walk back to examine a tiny blemish, the irony was - the car owned him, he didn't own it)
anyway good skills and enjoy, presumably the manual is giving you some light bedtime reading

Hodgy you are right life is too short to be owned by a car.
Usually I'm very laid back about my cars and will park them anywhere and hardly wash them etc. As a result I was quite ashamed of the state of the M5 at the end, loads of deep bird poo marks and scratches on the outside and badly dented leather from child seats.
Einstein, I never went for the adjustable suspension.

What an impressive looking car. :-) Interior looks good. I know a few guys would prefer the light tan leather, but I prefer black. Atleast with black it hides cracks / dirt produce by the kids.
I would imagine the car will take a while to settle in and should loosen up a little.
As for dents / scratches, its going to happen, but hey thats life. My friend brought a brand new Masserati, cost him £100K, picked it up, drove down to the pub to show us, and curbed a front wheel. Alloys are £3k a pop !!!! Though he handled it well, although pi55ed, at the end of the day, its car / tubb of metal.
What's this surround vision thing you mentioned ?? Its been a long time since I took a look at the options list on a BMW, so have no idea of what gadgets you can buy now.

Simon, it uses a whole load of cameras to give a complete and real birds eye view of the car. If you look at the pics below what you actually see are the block pavings of my drive and in the upper left you can see the steps that lead up to my front door.
I think it's something that will be quite useful when parking in tight spots and unknown areas where there might be a bollard or something.
You can just have the cameras that are on the very front sides activated so you can see whats coming when emerging from a poor visibility junction.
One just to prove that black leather isn't that bad
The sat nav now has quite impressive 3D images for some cities, you can see those here as I haven't figured out how to do it yet!

Some can moan about BMWs all they like but that is one tasty vehicle. Now under future consideration...!
294bhp, 440lbs-ft (mine is 300ish, 440ish and is meant to be less so yours will probably have way more once run in!), 162 g/km, 8 speed auto. I'm sorry but BMW kick ****.

Yes the idrive now works perfectly. The one in my E60 was fine, nowhere near as complicated as Clarkson made out but it could be quite glitchy. The new one seems spot on.

Have to agree that the parking camera thingy- me- bob looks pretty good .
