Paul,

the news article you link to is from Bolton. I was talking about Newcastle.

Maybe the UAF had learned the lesson of their ways.

But the crucial difference is that myself and my wife walked right through the UAF throng and probably the most offensive thing was some slightly off-tone singing from their band. We were offered leaflets and that was it. No threat, not even the slightest hint of discomfort.

Contrast that to being in the comparitive safety of my car, over a high pedestrian barrier and feeling genuinely threatened by the abuse and physical gestures.

I am not Muslim, I don't look Muslim, just a bit off white.

Something is clearly not right in the state of Denmark.

Two wrongs do not make a right, maybe one of the wrongs worked that out all by themselves.

My impression is that the EDL are nationalists at best, under the cover of a politically savvy and politically correct leadership. But my impression is also that they are as much specifically and genuinely only against Sharia law as you and I are in supporting it.

Of course they do, shops make lots of money by selling to the stupid. There's clearly a market for flags with the nationality written on it!

Paul stop it, you are in danger of making yourself look silly

A flag is flag, an emblem, a symbol a identifier.

The moment you stick the name of what it represents on it, it ceases to be a flag, or a symbol or a identifier?

I am sure this will be deemed as OK you see only the English are seen as racist or thugs or troublemakers or scum or idiots - in some peoples minds anyway

Tell me, Where there any England flags with 'I Love Pakistan' or Pakistani flags with 'I love England' written on them?

Interesting, you see my 5 and 8 y/old kids have an cross of St George flag with 'England' written on it given to them by a friend of theirs (last years world cup i believe) - does this make my kids scum?

They are very proud of the flag - well they see it as a flag rather than just a piece of cloth

I find it a little depressing that some people with intelligence and compassion on this board as demonstrated in many posts over many years can be so vitriolic in their dislike of people who wave flags (as an example) with a word on them. They dismiss the same people as idiots or stupid or scum. Just because not everyone is doing what you do does not majke them rubbish!

I am proud of the cross of St George and will display it when i see fit, if some people take this as s sign of me being racist or anti anything other than English then more fool them and shame on them for being so narrow minded and BIGOTED themselves.

To start with I would never and have never used the word 'scum', to describe anyone ever. That's the preserve of scoobynet, where that words is thrown around on countless threads.

You may remember that during the World Cup, I made the same comment about stupid flags with 'England' written on them, it's one of my pet hates (the older I get the easier to annoy I become).

As their dad though you should be pointing out what a flag is and why it makes no sense to have the thing it is there to represet actually written on it. Let's just call it bad parenting

Now please let's not fall out over a bloody flag (or a piece of cloth with England written on it)

Funny i do not have a problem with the word England written on it - unlike some people on here who think it an excuse to run down those that do - kinda puts them on the same level don't you think

Personally i would not need or want the flag to have anything written on it but that's personal preference...

I do have a cross of St George flag with GILLETTE written on it - got it free with a razor deal last world cup as well. I only hang that out when i am shaving

**********ALERT GRUMPY RESPONSE***********

I think this thread kind of encapsulates my despair at this site. It now seems that it's perfectly OK to post up anything that attacks anyone whom might be different to you and me

Gypsies
Muslims
Lefties

I'll let you finish the list for me

And yet make a tongue in cheek remark about stupid football fans or the bloody EDL and you get the kind of bolloxy response you just gave me.

Well done finally the light has been seen, WTF do I waste my time posting on here?

I like to see people who obviously are loyal to and support their own country. If they want to have a flag with England written on it...so what? What really matters is that they are carrying it to show their allegiance.

I think you are allowing your antipathy to what you might regard as jingoism to go too far Martin.

Too many people are trying to destroy this country, its traditions, and what it stands for because of their own agendas and it is good to think of people who are prepared to speak out and demonstrate their support of it for a change.

Just for the record I couldn't care less what flag or piece of cloth they have, that does not make them scum. racially abusing people like Trout and his wife (and let's be honest for a second and admit that sort of thing is a mantra for the organisation - there's no getting away from it) does.

Because I hazard a guess you find Scoobynet like an irritating itch. You know you shouldn't feed the itch by scratching it but sometimes the temptation is too great to ignore.

That or you sublininally think your posts may actually make a difference to how people think, act or behave on here. Thats how it sometimes reads to me.

The England flag is recognised as the England flag without the need to have England emblazoned on it. Phew. Does that make sense

To be fair - what did you expect driving around Newcastle with your Sunderland shirt on and Sunderland flags (complete with the word 'Sunderland' written on them) hanging out the back of your car?
