I have Windows on my MacBook. Runs lovely, all supported by Apple. Best of both worlds. Only real reason I use it is the proprietry system used by Outlook.
I fully agree on the phone, nothing touches the iPhone, and all the Fanboy big number bleating won't change that. Just been reading up on the new Galaxy, yup, like an iPhone. Maybe this one will keep up, I feel bad for owners of the first one.

MacBook rumours.
SSD for the operating system and regular HD for the user data, if this rumour is true then Apple have done it again, implemented the obvious under the noses of the competition. A larger track pad would be great, mine is huge, but my desktop version is bigger and better. Lightpeak I'm not sure about, but welcome and Lighter is always a winner.
The one rumour that may make me sell my current MacBook is if they produce it in Black, that's right, the only upgrade that might make take a hit on my current laptop is it's colour. Style matters.

So Sony's entire range was upgraded to SSD boot drives, surprised I missed that. Wow, Google did too http://www.google.co.uk/search?clien...ssd+boot+drive I'd have a word with the marketing department.
Anyhow, reserve your seats for the 2nd of March, the place will be crowded with Apple hating looneys when we find out what other devices will be like in two years time.

How was the awards night at the MWC? Winning the top accolade without sponsoring or even attending must have got a few marketing backs up.

I see the SSD, but no hard drive?? What am I missing Tony? Are my Apple Spectacles failing me or can you still not see the innovation hiding under your nose.

Apple could bring out a combination SSD and HD next week not in 3 years time, wake up man, you're starting to sound like a Nokia exec.

Do you know why other manufacturers won't do ssd/hdd? It's not innovative, it's stupid, if apple think it's innovative on a laptop then they really need to look at their design team and sack them

FWIW, I'm a Mac User. Got an iphone too (just jailbroken iOS4 and it's turned back into a good phone!).
I like Windows machines too.
THEY BOTH HAVE THEIR PLACE.
The interesting thing for me is the emerging technologies.
IMHO (and there is chatter to support this), Light-peak will be appearing in the MacBook Pros in the next 12 months -
http://techresearch.intel.com/Projec...ls.aspx?Id=143
IMHO, you would have to be dense to buy a new MacBook right now.
But it will also be put in new PCs.... a case of who gets it to market first.
There was also some posting about the death of SSD already? Don't believe it tbh (after all it was written on here )
My other pet hate is the Apple APP store for Mac. Irrational outburst, but still my gut feeling.

LOL Apples marketing which is absolutely excellent, makes a fuss about using SSD's and markets in in such as way that people think that they are the first to do this.
What do you tink that the majority of touch pads use for storage - I will give you a hint its SSD's and have been for 2 + years !
Nothing against Apples as such, some exellent products but I dont think they innovate, they look at the market, copy and change bits, often leave out stuff the competitors had before such as video calling on the earlier iphones, design a better interface and more stylish casings etc and then market the product extremely agressively but well.

SSD'S are certainly not new, installing a small one in a Laptop purely as a boot drive is new. It's only a rumour and you lot are coming down on Apple already, hold your fire guys there's more to come.
Richard if you're having trouble see Apple innovation, look at the iPhone, then look at all major Smartphones, take a look at the iPad, then look at other offerings. Take a look at Tony's link to that Sony Laptop, then look at an old MacBook. Graphical User Interfaces are pretty common nowadays as well. It's a bit rich to say that Apple don't innovate when pretty much every computer and mobile device is in some way influenced by Apple. That's not to say that Apple haven't benefitted from the work of other's, but try to give them some credit.

Phew! None of the reason's I'd sell my current MacBook appeared. No SSD boot drive and no Black option. Still a bit gutted I have the old processor and graphics and Thunderbolt may be useful at a later date.

Jack, people who aren't Apple fan boys are not haters, you seem unable to deal with that.
If Apple were so good, it would be them, not Microsoft who dominate the personal computer market. Apple prices are high, but not so high to differentiate, say a Mondeo from Gallardo, so that argument holds no water. If Macs really were so good, people would buy them.
iPhone and iPod, ok, I agree they are the nicest of their type. But, are they the best? Subjective to say the least, and they are certainly not without their issues, like all products really.
What Apple are good at is convincing people they need their products, and you have to take your hat off to them for that

Geezer, take a look at Macintosh sales, suck a lemon and come back. Apple are very good at releasing products that everyone wants, it's not just marketing, they actually do it, consistently. It's a shame you're so blinkered you can't see that.

but the Phone and the Pad are the best there is in my Opinion,
As for a server mmmmm
In my 17 years in IT ive only ever come across one place that activley used MACs on the desk and a MAC back end, Blackpool 6th form colledge.
And they struggled in the least to do anything new, fine for basic fileshare and cumbersome email, but nowt great.

For small business the server is a boon, buy a Mac Mini, the saving on software pays for the hardware and basic tasks can be performed by your mother. Win.

It isn't free, you have to buy the OS. Linux is free and has been for eons.
How many Mac servers have I ever come across in business... none!
How many Linux servers..... numerous!
Where's the game changing?

Who knows, cost was certainly the issue last time I tried. What I do know is what I'll be recommending as of later this year. Have you read up on this new version? I think it's going to be great.
