^^ Good post and wise words ^^
As I have said again and again, in REAL WORLD driving my Civic will equal, or beat, most Impreza's .... it's just how it is.
The Civic does 0-60 in a bit over 8secs ... and a UK Classic Turbo in a bit over 6secs - that's 2 seconds. Now, throw in the variables .. like the fact I can change gear faster than most kiddies, I have ***** of steel so can push the boundaries when the kiddie will poop themselves and back off, my car may well be in better tune, tighter ... most old Scoobies will have lost 50% of their power by now anyway!!
So, in the final analysis .... a Civic diesel can easily keep up with, and in most cases surpass, a lot of Scobbies.

I tell you what Pete bring your car along to the ESC tunnel run (for charity by the way) so that we can all marvel at your car, you can lead the run even as guest of honour and then we can then try and keep up with man and machine in perfect harmony.
Is it true that you are in fact the Stig's great great grandfather?

I better steer clear of these one-off PSL mobiles. It must be one of a kind as all the 2.2 civic diesels i come across are slow as hell but i guess none of these are driven by Stig Lewis

I am in no way having a go at Subaru drivers, I would not read this site every day if I did not like Subarus and have one on my shopping list but too many of you are stuck in the rut of thinking about 0 to 60 times and straight line performance. My favourite drives include corners, this means you must get your lines and braking points right and get on the throttle early to make good progress. Why not challenge the Civic to a run on PSL's favourite road not a tunnel.

You are right straight line speed is nothing without the ability to smoothly take corners, slow in - fast out, matching gears to conditions and keeping the car balanced.
I'm ready when you are Pete.

Oh, dear ... I seemed to have caused a stir ... very unlike me.
All I was really saying is that my Diesel Civic (note Diesel, to the poster who thought I was in a Type R!) ...... with 340nM at my disposal ... and my vast old git experience ... and my ability to drive extremely well below the speed limit ... .
I didn't mean to get anyone chopping on their keyboard ....

It was Civic driver who didnt give way at a junction and smashed me and my beloved scooby of 4 years off the road. My scooby was written off and nearly two years later I am just about recovered. Not pleasant being hit side on. The only bonus was his Civic was buried so far into my scooby that it was written off too.
I had a bad case of deja vu last week when a Type R driver chose not to stop at a give way when he was turning right and nearly obliterated half a dozen cars, me included, in a 30mph, only to pull up in his driveway just down the road.
Can't tar everyone with the same brush, but I'm not feeling very generous towards Civic drivers so the posts in here dont impress

As I have said again and again, in my IMAGINARY TROLL WORLD driving my Civic will equal, or beat, most Kia's.... it's just how it is.
The Civic does 0-60 in a bit over 8secs ... and a Kia Rio in a bit over 16secs - that's 8 seconds. Now, throw in the variables .. like the fact I can change gear faster than most paraplegics, I have ***** for brains so can push the boundaries of fantasy when the Kia driver will be in full control of their faculties and back off, my car may well be in better tune, tighter ... most old Kias will have lost 50% of their power by now anyway!!

Won't be stuck in the snow ... it's a front wheel drive. The rear wheel drives get stuck. This is what I mean about kiddies see? Don't know nowt about driving.
Remember, children, I was driving Capri's and Cortina's in ice and snow way back (before most of your parents were alive) ... I have driven pretty much everything one time or another. 0-60 times, BHP, 1/4 mile sprints, these mean nothing when up against an old experienced hand (in whatever he may be driving - and, most certainly, when in a car with more pulling power than most Scoobies). A missed gearchange by a kiddie means that any time advantage is lost.
Anyway, we do seem to have gone off topic somewhat ....... back to the most annoying drivers/cars (you will note that the Civic doesn't appear in the list!).

front wheel drives dont get stuck in the snow ! ! Haha of course they do and last year it was mainly old taxi drivers stuck at the bottom of icy hills while i went past them like there was no ice.
But you wont have that problem because your an experianced driver in a car that you claim has a 0-30 time that equalls a mclaren f1 ! You may be an experianced driver but you dont have a clue what your talking about.

Im no youngster, but I would say the majority of Impreza owners aint either. They are 30+ years old, with a bucket of experience, driving dozens of previous cars before owning what they own now (including Civics I might add).
The only thing I do agree with PSL is the ***** of steel bit. I got titanium bo!!ocks so if you fancy a race, anywhere, give me a shout. Born in the valleys of wales with amazing roads and now living in shropshire where I drive from telford to chester, daily through some great winding, sharp 'B roads which is great for putting the ****s up people (example, I kept up with a BMW 525 in a loaned Astra 1.6, only coz the BMW driver didnt want to wreck his motor I might add) me, I didnt care about the Astra hence I was able to keep up.
Yes, you may take a few scoob owners - thats because they dont want to write off their 20k car as opposed to you not caring about writing off your 6k bucket of bolts.
Get in a real car then drive like you dont care about writing it off. You might have some appreciation.

When you get to 72, it's not that old at all .....
You lot cannot drive in the world I do then?
I drive in the real world where the average speed of the traffic is 30 MPH if you're lucky.
Where the maximum ever distance between where you are and where the back of the car in front is is 500 Yards.
Where speed cameras patrol you to stay within sensible limits.
Where you look like a right dork if you drive like you have stolen your car.
Where fuel costs limit spirited driving.
Where steady, cost effective, driving is seen as an assett....... Where the world is real.
The fastest car in the world is as slow as the slowest on a stretch of road ..... it is very difficult, in this day and age, to actually pass a car being driven with gusto - so, what's the point of figures? NONE!
The only figures to matter nowadays are the mpg, torque, road tax and depreciation.

The point is, unless you are willing to put your money where your mouth is, why bother taking the pi55 at other owners.
I have a lot of respect for you however.
Your age, your experience and that you got guts. It doesnt always come down to age though. In the job Ive been doing for the last 10 years, Ive done over 400,000 miles, thats 40 years worth of driving compared to an "average" driver of 100,000 or so and many drivers on here have done even more than that. That doesnt even count the other 13 years of average driving, so im around the 530,000 miles.
Experience is not always how "old" you are and counts more in how many miles you've done and how many accidents you have accumulated. Ive accumulated 0 (zero) in 23 years. Have managed to get out of a lot of mishaps because of my experience of reading the road, conditions and other vehicles.
As far as the civic vs scoob, as I said before, its because the scoob driver doesnt want to wreck his beloved. The video I linked above says it all.

Oh well, thats settled it then PSL.
Im selling my scoob and buying a VW Polo, coz that'll cost a 1/5 to run as a Civic and its all the same...
The whole point of getting a scoob is because the previous cars we've owned are not powerful enough, does not handle as safe as a scoob and isnt as FUN as a scoob.
Who gives a toss about cost, im not worrying about the funds digging into my pension.
Nuff said.
