Oh, dear ... I seemed to have caused a stir ... very unlike me.
All I was really saying is that my Diesel Civic (note Diesel, to the poster who thought I was in a Type R!) ...... with 340nM at my disposal ... and my vast experience ... and my ability to drive extremely well ... can see off a STi driven by a kiddie of under 30 years old (still wet behind the ears and all that).
I didn't mean to get anyone chopping on their keyboard ....

Your 'success' means nothing. Many will remember the Top Gear episode where the Fiat hire car out accelerated an Evo FQ400 in 5th from 30mph. Doesn't mean the Fiat was a faster car.
I'm surprised you could tell what you were up against anyway, what with the abysmal visibility and spine shattering ride of your Civic (bet the money you save on fuel you spend on dental fixative.)

Visibility? Why do I care what's behind me?
The ride is as my old Impreza - firm, nothing more.
It's certainly got some massive pulling power

I don't do Santa Pod these days ........ so the 1/4 mile time doesn't interest me as it's not the real world.
In real world driving the Honda is outstanding, simply outstanding ..... the £110 a year Car Tax makes me smile, the 55mpg gives me goosebumps, the reasurring thud of the doors fills me with pleasure, the ability to pull the skin off many rice puddings makes me chuckle, the stunning looks and the admiring glances makes me proud.
It feels like driving an new Impreza in the year 2000 ..... and I did that too

I suppose ignorance does somewhat blind you to the facts...
I can understand you wanting to 'big up' you current car but let's not pretend that you can go out chasing 'proper' cars shall we?

Racing is illegal on the public roads ... so is speeding ... I will repeat myself - in real world driving the Civic Diesel delivers in spades, of that there is no doubt.
By the time an Impreza has spooled up, I'm gone .............. whooosh

0-30 I would be way in front .... scooby would catch up at 40 .... then the superior pulling power of the Civic Diesel would move ahead up 60 ... then it's equal to 70 ...... after that it doesn't matter, does it?

so the classic impreza's mclaren f1 equaling 0-30 mph time can now be beaten by a disel civic, why do i love supercars so much when the civic is such a crafty piece of engineering.

I couldn't help but notice that there weren't any civics at the Bedford trackday on Saturday, perhaps all that torque was too much for the front tyres in the damp so all the owners deceded to avoid it. I'll watch my mirrors closely if I ever see a diesel civic being noise tested....especially with an over 30yrs behind the wheel....

What I think needs to happen is that a load of us get together with PSLewis for a little testing.
Lets organise a car meet in his neck of the woods!
We will see if he can beat ANY scoobs.
I suspect that even a sport would take him down.

load of rubbish.
I owned a 530d 220bhp and it would of ate a civic diesel.
I raced a couple of evos and impretzas and upto 60mph they were alot faster but after 60 i could reel them back in.

My Leon Cupra Tdi has 320Nm/150bhp and for 95% of the time on the road has adequate performance with the advantages of good fuel efficiency and lower tax. In my limited experience you need to commit to sustained periods of WOT to lose another well driven car on the road even if your car has a significant performance advantage, so a Civic may be difficult to leave behind. BUT for those occasions when there is a long straight road and 3 plus cars to pass in one go a diesel does not compare to a petrol with decent horsepower, you simply run out of revs in the diesel.
