Had a petrol civic until it was nicked. Really liked it but I had the scoob at the same time and one was not a substitute for the other. Now have a Octavia vrs to replace the civic and prefer its performance but not the dash board
No idea why you would pay £33k for a new sti saloon. Looks okay but really I'd rather use my cash to get an M3 (2007 / 08) or an older 911. Or more likely pay £18k for a new octavia VRS as a family car and have £15k to buy something fun (hawk STi maybe?)

It's not trolling at all ....... and I would love to love the new STi .... truly I would.
But is is tacky.
It is cheaply built.
It isn't the Icon it once was.
It cannot compete anymore.
It is stupidly expensive.
It loses value massively.
It costs an arm and a leg to run.
It will not sell.
The above are plain facts.
Subaru will pull out of the UK within 24 months. That is my opinion.
Maybe I'm so vocal as I'm really annoyed to see a great car die - when it could have been so much better, had they listened to what the buyers wanted.
No trolling - my honestly held opinions.

The bloke riding the yam r1 wished i had been in a civic last night instead of having his number plate chewed off by my blob sti..... and trust me the 10 years riding blades and dukes told me the way he was flicking it about and lifting the front wheel that the beans were being given.
He has well and truly gone to the pub and said "**** them scoobys are quick"..
lets face it the scoob is still a benchmark
i used to toast all civics in my mr2 turbo and that handled like a pigs puddin !
STI will always be a drivers car if you have the ***** to use it !

A well ridden R1 being given the beans would leave you like you were stopped unless you are on a very wet very twisty road or a rally stage.
They can achieve 100mph in under 7s and a standing quarter in 10.5 ... now unless you have the fastest blob STI in the world I can't see how you could keep up if he was giving it some.

OK last attempt here. About 8 years ago one of the bike mags put up a Fireblade against an STI and did 3 relatively real world handling tests back to back between the bike and the STI.
The STI was soundly trounced by a country mile in two and just nosed ahead on the third by the smallest of margins which was conducted on a twisty slippery track.
I am not even a bike fan, but there is no way on earth a Scoob is going to trouble a well ridden R1 in most situations even if you are God's gift to driving.
Maybe in your case his ***** just weren't big enough

I've got an 07 STi and a 58 Civic Type R and I can assure you the build quality of the Honda is crap. Mine has been back to the dealers for a multitude of problems which have been well published on the Civic forums and which have never been resolved by Honda. Once they've sold you the car forget getting faults sorted. The Civic has done 7000 miles and the front discs and calipers are red rusty - by comparison the STi has done 36000 and the discs and caliper look like new. The Honda clutch squeals when cold, the dash creaks, the petrol flap doesn't work, the rear lights fill up with water, front spots are made of sugar glass, external temp gauge read -37C last winter, battery went flat regularly until a recall from Honda. This wouldn't be so bad but Civic owners all complain about the same problems.
The Subaru has had one minor problem fixed on it's last service at 3 years old. The Honda drives well but there is no point comparing it the STi - the STi is in another league all together. If anyone has had a Civic and had no problems they are extremely lucky. Honda happiness what a joke get real Honda drivers.

How can u compare these 2 cars anyway
Civic is probably a perfect everyday car... A to B
Scoob has never been an everyday car ( for me ) . It's been done to bee fast, thrilling and put a smile on your face .... TOY.
PSL everytime i see your posts u always mention that your civic is better this better that. It might be better four you buddy , it all depends on your needs. I can't understand your comments sometimes as the cars are made for 2 different pusposes. I have a scoob to play on weekends and corsa 1.2 to run around in this case. I think u should get another classic sti for weekends and u'll get that buzz we all have. I had honda prelude vti and yes it's been better built quality but perfomance wise it wasn't anywhere there....your diesel civic neither...
Just my point of view.

I had a Scooby Classic .... it wasn't a toy, it earned its keep as the family workhorse - and it did a very fine job of it too!!
The toy is an MX5 sat in the garage ......
The Civic has replaced the Scooby as the family workhorse - and it does a fine job, just better and cheaper than a new Scooby could ever hope to do.
Like I said ..... the world has moved on, the Scooby Impreza hasn't moved with it .... it is stuck in a time where cheap tacky plastics and excessive costs to run were considered reasonable exchanges for the performance.
You can have it all these days ... at less than £33,000

Back to the OP, a civic diesel...really! nice commuter, good on fuel, but missing the point on a performance car forum, i'm glad the interior feels nice, so did my lexus, but i got rid of it for my scoob, and oddly enough, it was not the build quality that sold me on my scoob, i couldn't give a **** if the new one was 33k, it won't make me sell, why would it? as for an 'investment', you seem to be justifying buying an old mans car, after all, if it was about getting money back when you sell, buy gold.
And why am i enduring x-factor for the next 3 hours, ffs!

All joking aside .... my Civic is as quick (maybe quicker) than a scooby to 45 MPH .... and that suits me just fine in exchange for £110 a year Car Tax and 55mpg

except very very few riders have the b0llox to ride anywhere near the bikes potential when cornering, even in the dry, and as we live in the UK where roads actually have lots of bends, an average car driver will always corner faster than 90% of riders. Not a dis, as i am a biker myself, but i have far more confidence in four wheels than on two. Of course an R1 would be quicker in a straight line though.
Cheers mate, dont think they have ever been on a bike, funny really....
