oh dear! , not off the line, no chance, please understand the characteristics of torque combined with RPM......now if you had said in 3rd gear, from 20 - 45mph, then you would have a point, although utterly irrelevant, or even if you said pulling a caravan, still irrelevant. but to quote torque on it's own just displays ignorance........btw, do you realise your civic diesel also has more way more torque than a F1 car at 2000rpm? so it must be faster than a F1 car to 45mph, right? Unless you actually realise that RPM actually multiplies the torque i.e. simplified, 400nm at 2000rpm is exactly the same as 200nm at 4000rpm, but you knew that didn't you.

What they may not have realised is that from the lights, up to the legal speed limit on 99% of roads .... the Civic Diesel is out in front.
Chip it and it leaves a 330 STi dawdling ......

Yes, of course the Civic Diesel will beat a STi from 40-60MPH ..... but, everyone knows that.

Unless you can bring constructive and realistic comments to this forum, go bother the Honda boys.

Its not about the cost of ownership or the quality feel of the dash, it never was.

Here's an example for you, top gear did a 5th ?(6th) gear acceleration test from around 30mph between a evo fq400 and a fiat stilo, guess what won?

except very very few riders have the b0llox to ride anywhere near the bikes potential when cornering, even in the dry, and as we live in the UK where roads actually have lots of bends, an average car driver will always corner faster than 90% of riders. Not a dis, as i am a biker myself, but i have far more confidence in four wheels than on two. Of course an R1 would be quicker in a straight line though.
If he wasn't and you kept up with him so what? If he was you could not have stayed with him.

Moving on from all the entertaining BS about how the Civic beats the Veyron, Superman, has sex with Cameron Diaz etc..
I just went and had a good look inside and out at the new STI saloon. Much nicer than the outgoing car IMO. Seats are much more comfortable without being soft and the inside has a much better finish generally. Better leg room in the back and a surprisingly deep boot, kind of like the Tardis. Didn't bother driving it as I'm not interested till the new engines go in next year. Tires are on a 245 track interestingly. Thus far I for one have found my next scoob, pending test drive and engine change. I think tho it will be as well as rather than instead of my current one, at least until the warranty is up and the laptop/wrench get to play.

Like I said ... you appear to be in denial ...
I have owned an Impreza for 10 years - I was terrified that I would miss it. I do miss the old girl, but not as much as I thought I would.
The world has moved on, I have moved on with it.
I really wanted another Impreza .... but, back to back drives with a Civic Diesel and a STi was telling. The Honda was just as much fun - more usable power if you like - and so, so, so much better built.
Add to the better car, better thrills, better power, better quality, better equipment, better price ..... you get the 55mpg, you get the £110 Road Tax, yet still keep the peerless reliability of a Subaru.
Sorry, but the argument is lost to anyone who has been out there and driven the alternatives .................................. and £33,000 would buy you a very nice Aston Martin DB7 Convertible - think about that a while.

No Pete you had a boggo UK Turbo, the worst specced and powered Impreza available. Drove like Miss Daisy and admitted it, pipe and slippers, cocoa and and a nice sensible old mans car now Pete.

Guess you would need to be there to believe me, around the streets he couldnt leave me..... visa versa, an enjoyable 5 or 6 mins that ended with a nod and a thumbs up from both sides.
Just a pointer to what i have said previously im in a quick 4 x 4 because i cant ride anymore, a serious rta that resulted in plates and screws in my left arm means that i cant bend it enough to ride a sports bike like the way they should be ridden.
The sti is as close a rush you will ever get to 2 wheels and at times can be a better experience cos you always back off a bit round the twisties where the scooby can just power through.
And YES he was giving it the beans but like i said ya gotta be there..

My local subaru dealer has a black 60 plate saloon with a low spoiler added to the boot, WRX style.
words don't describe how mean the whole thing looks in the flesh. a very nice looking car indeed.

I fear from reading the majority of these posts that i'm in small minority of those who really like the new STI - never liked the hatch but think the saloon has alot going for it. Really enjoyed the drive - both on twisty B roads and the motorway, very comfy seats, and to be honest, think i'll probably go for one. I've had 7 scoobys and my current is a Legacy Spec B - I want something that is as fast or faster, AWD, fun to drive but that I can get kit into plus the dog - and the new legacy does not have the performance, and the outback is pure ugly.....I struggle to find another car to match the spec and as big a point, from a garage that really looks after me too - the car has got to be great, but I want to buy it from a good place and having experienced other marques dealerships, mostly they dont even get close to my local scooby one. Maybe i'm IM's new target audience for the STi?, who knows, but I think its a great car...

Thats a good question - reading the reports of the problems that people have had with the 2.5, then its cause for concern but when I broached the subject with the dealer I was told that the engine failures only affected a small number of engines on the 08 MY cars.....I dont know if this differs with any experiences with posters on here?. I'm about due for a change so I think i'll be going for the model as it stands..i'm not very good at waiting!!...as I said in my post, the service I get from the dealership is superb - I love my Scoobys and alot of that is down to being properly looked after by the dealer - so I really dont want to move to another car!......the only issue is getting the dog in the back safely!....

"Well, you can no longer have your WRX with gold wheels or WR Blue paint, for example, and the days when 60 per cent of Subaru sales were turbo nutjobs are long gone"
Didn’t take long for Subaru to give up all that history. Not for me build quality has taken a dive, the 2.5 is a joke which they don’t seem interested in sorting out. the turbonut jobs are the only market who will put up with the massive down side of having a subaru
