I went for a 2.1 cdb over a 2.5.

Everything i read about the 2.1 from enginetuner sold it to me.Lots of torque and loves to rev.

i have to disagree with that.i have had the 2.0l,2.5l and i now have the 2.1l built by enginetuner.yes the 2.5 is a great torquey engine but then again so is the 2.1, but the 2.1 with the cdb is a much stronger package. i would say that the 2.5 is better if you were cruising in 6th gear and wanted to pull away but were too lazy to change down into a lower gear.even with the massive turbo which mine is running there is no sign of lag on the road at all.the 2.1 is a great all rounder as you have the strength of the cdb + the extra torque over the 2.0l + it still wants to rev all the way past the redline.i must admit that when i was running the 2.5 i thought that was all i ever wanted but after running the 2.1 now for over 6 months i wouldnt want to change it.

Thats probably the reason i went for it to be honest! hehe. I must say i was very tempted by the 2.1 but i know that 500hp is achievable from the 2.5 which in my eyes is more than enough for a road car.

If your planning on tracking it a lot, maybe the 2.1 could be a better choice with the higher revving. Not sure what the 2.5s rev to mind. Ill be running the avcs heads on mine so that mite make a difference.

Swings and roundabouts i reckon. Either option would be a cracking perfoming car

I had a ver 4 type r with 2.5 20g turbo388/415 no meth
killer had a ver sit type r with 2.1 and and 18g 410/390 with meth
we done a lot of testing and to be honest we couldn't separate the two it was neck and neck stuff. both cars were built and mapped by Martin and alan.the 2.1 has some parts from Mark at lateral but both were built and mapped by the same person.

2.5 if you want a fun road car very nice to drive brilliant for the road as turbo comes in so quick but runs out of puff a quicker than the rest.

2.1 if you are on a budget on more torque than the 2l and slightly better spool.

2.3 is the daddy best of both worlds

speak to Martin or Alan at engine tuner and Mark at lateral they will be able to give you the best advice based on your budget. best advice I can give you don't cut corners as it will come back and hurt you. it's worth paying that little bit extra for peace of mind the two traders I have mentioned have been on here for a long time and have good experience so you will be in safe hands best of luck what ever you do mate.

Depends how far you push it, some say 450 is the max on a standard block even with up rated internals

Semi closed deck block are good for 500 but some say the cylinder walls are no good for over 450 on the 2.5.

My previous setup was 2.5, MD321T etc. Personally i would go for a 2.1 this time as the 2.5 did not rev as good as a 2.1. To get the best out of the 2.5 i think some head work would be needed. I.e cams, valves etc.

Thanks for all your replies
Its a pity i couldnt go out in one in either 2.1, 2.35 or a 2.5 in a classic running similar power as that would probably make my mind up
oh and the cost .
Right say i want 450 and similar torque, i need a list of what i need.
At the moment i have:
Power fc with commander
3 Inch decat exhaust system
Front mount intercooler but not fitted
Adj Fuel pressure regulator
Walbro fuel pump
Standard transmission.
Everything else is standard.
Cheers,
James.

dont use standard non vvt UK heads.

I had good results with a completely standard 2.5 short motor, with standard sti 5 heads and a gt30R it made 452@ 1.5bar.

The car above is a different kettle of fish entirely. Fully forged 2.5. However although the heads have uprated springs and valves the head casings themselves and cams are completely standard 2006 wrx items.

I know shaky from the p1woc has a 2.5scdb running 535hp with same torque with no issues whatsoever. Makes me think 500 is easily achievable. Obviously with the right gear. Remember though, power aint everything. No point in having all that power and not being able to use it.

This nonsense that 2.5 wont rev is unfounded, you just need the right turbo

Relinered 2.5 casing but still no more expensive than a 2.35 but like I said previously best road car combination would be a forged 2.5 with vvt head and a MD321T/T+
