Don't buy an impreza buy a small hatchback, add an exhaust and a set or rims (both declared) this will give you a few years to learn how to drive and some good road sense, then get a turbo when you can insure it properly.

And that is only from the police, the insurance co may also take up a case against you, that is a little more harsh, as your uninsured any 3rd party can then also take out a civil case agaisnt you to claim back damages/injuries/time off work etc, do you really want that? just wave goodbye to your life.
Small hatch back, nothing too ott, low insurance group, lower insurance, gain your ncb's etc, then in the future think about a subaru.

Not sure what budget you have but 4k will get you 2005 Fiesta ST, plenty of fun and insurance should be ok'ish, alloys etc as standard so you cannot go wrong, would nbe my choice if I was 18.

Anyway, to the OP, I know what everyone is suggesting is the boring way but its for the best
I've been in a similar situation as everyones describing and their not joking, you will get raped from the police, insurance and any 3rd party, usually resulting in bankruptcy
Get the ST, get no claims then skip the WRX and get an STI

what about buying a 1.6 and a wrx estate and swaP EVERYTHING over including the engine would all of the fittments be the same and everything for the engine and tranny. i checked the insurance on the 1.6 and got £2500 compared to like a wrx at £7000 any thoughts ?????

Right then fella, stop trying to blag it. If you can only afford to buy and ins a 1.6 then thats all you can get. If you try and blag it at some point you`ll end up messing your ins up for life and will never be able to get a WRX. Plus there is the fact as many others have said your ins would be nil and void, so if you ever had a accident youd get a criminal record mess up your ins and cause a whole load of the trouble with the person youve crashed into.
GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT !!!!
PS. I was 30 before I could afford to buy,ins and look after one properly and so worth the wait fella.

Waited till i was 22 for my first Turbo, only paid £1200 insurance on a Seat Leon Cupra.
First Scooby when i was 25, most insurance companies wouldnt even humour a quote until that age... but amusingly cost less to insure a 280bhp UK Turbo than the Leon.
There are plenty of cars that are quickish and fun to drive without the insurance hikes... just do some homework on the various options, Celica GT4's for example came out miles cheaper to insure, but just as tunable and pretty viable second option.

No, the only "6" cars that got away with it were 6 that Prodrive brought into the country in late 92 to early 1993, thats because they didnt have wrx's on the books then, they do now but people still try to register them as GL's and then insure them as such, which is fraud as you are deceiving your insurance co.
If its a WRX and you know its a WRX then you have to insure it as such.
You can (when sending off the V5) change what the car is, ie from a GL to WRX.

OP, you should be locked up for even considering it.
If you want to drive something quick and have either the money or skills for a conversion then buy one banger with a tow bar for the road and something quick with a trailer to drive on the track.
