it will be more to insure due to the fact that it will be a completley modified car mate, how about buying a 2.0gx and running that for a couple of years and waiting like most of us have had to do so that you can get some no claims behind you. i got my first one last year at 21 and it was well worth the wait and i certainly shouldn't of had one earlier, they are a very quick car.

i shouldnt il be the first to say this mate but its not worth the risk if you dont declare to your insurer plus come MOT time your emmisions will be all wrong as they be testing the turbo engine which will be higher compared to 1.6 emmisions rating. but down to you end of the day bud. your licence on the line lol

imo i think your nuts!!!!!!what the point? the insurance company has qouted you that much becouse bassically they think your not capable, and at such a risk to drive such a high performance car. i am 29 now and ive owed a few scooby turbos, but like every1 else, i had to wait(unless like some mummy or daddy helped)untill a got a few more years behind me n built up my ncb`s. your time will come and it will be worth the wait but untill then buy a e36 318is or something.

i think it did, you asked for any thoughts and he thought you are nuts. I'd also agree with him, waste of money and quite illegal if not insured properly.
PS. I cant afford to insure or run a Turbo'd Impreza which is why I still drive an Alfa.

look there is so much money involved. you can get it to work but the money you would spend doing the conversion you could buy a full STI. the emissions thing is no problem, as you will be changing the wiring loom and the ecu.
do a search on here for non turbo conversions to see how much is involved. totally pointless exercise unless you have money to burn, in which case you would have coughed up the £7k to insure a genuine turbo anyway.

Waited til I was 23.
Forget the emissions, that's the least of the problems with this idea. If the old bill pull you over and give you a 7 day wonder, you are fecked. Hit someone in an accident and you are fecked (v likely at your age, no offense intended, just the way it is).

As already has been said it's a pretty pointless exercise because you will need to swap the engine, gearbox, rear diff, hubs, suspension, brakes, ecu, wiring loom to match the ecu etc.
All that and you would still have a car that you won't be legally insured on so just wait your time and buy the real deal when you can afford it For what it's worth the classic sport is a good car in its own right, what's insurance like on one of those?

Not the most constructive comments guys. The savings on insurance if any would not cover the costs to have such a car built. Have you looked into insurance i got cover at 21 for a brand new Hawkeye with a few mods. Paying massive insurance will still work out better than doing as planned

Also how is telling someone not to get involved in possible criminal fraudulent activity not constructive.
these have been the underlying answers in all the replies to this thread.

jesus christ lad, how many times do you want to be told. it's insurance fraud, its criminal and i pay enough for my insurance because of uninsured drivers. an insurance company will try to wriggle out of paying any claim. because it says GL on the log book and you knowingly report it as a GL when it is infact a turbo will invalidate your insurance and subject you to the full rigour of the law.
so the £5k you save on insurance you end up paying in damages for personal injury claims as you are now open to "personal writ". your insurance company will drop you like a hot potato and you will be on your own.

The way insurance is at the moment m8 if anything happened then they defo won't pay out and you would be paying the rest of your natural for a silly mistake, ive just had to take pictures of my garage for my bike insurance there that keen nowadays, buy a kit car instead miles cheaper

if you had a bop insurance assessor would take a look from his periferal vision and spot the changes and you'd be screwed. not only would you not get the payout, you'd be classed as having no insure, then you'd prob get hit with dangerous driving, etc etc anbd it will f**k up your life. you license would be gone, no car and you'd have a criminal record.
As the owner the responsibility for making sure the DVLA has the right information still falls on you, the 'i didn't know' excuse just doesn't work. I'm not even sure if there would be any come back on the importers.
just isn't worth it, get a sport untill you can afford to buy, run and properly insure a uk turbo/wrx, then go from there, will save you hassel in the long run.
