ADP,

Yep, Auto - 4 speed electronic control (of the 4WD system as well).
Apparently, much tougher than a manual box.
Don't knock it until you have tried it !

Thanks

Triffid, I'll second Dougies comments....
I got a low quote for my STi5 typeR from them but they said they didnt have a typeR on the system so said that a standard STi5 would cover it. Then when I rang up to take out the insurance the person that I spoke to checked for a 2nd time and realised that it was invalid cover as a type R was different to a standard STi5, they couldnt cover the typeR so I cancelled straight away.
worth checking ??

I would suggest that if you are already insured with a company (i.e. have paid them, received covernotes, certificates etc)...then this sort of thing will not apply to you as yet...

...however I would imagine that come renewal things might change.

Generally these things happen in respect of New Business enquiries...i.e the requirement for Tracking, Alarms, Garaging etc...

In November we had the same issue...suddenly our main underwriter for Greys made it a requirement that ALL cars would have to be garaged and fitted with Cat 1 & Tracking in order for Theft cover to apply...

All our clients who were/are already covered are not effected....however for all new quotes the above requirement applies...

It is a nighmare for Brokerages like oursleves...as insurance companies can pull out of a market just as quickly (if not quicker) than they entered it!

Another 2p's worth from Rum*

Sorry for the delay in replying, been away.
Got back this morning to find out that they will not touch Type R. All others-- allegedley?!?

So don't bother speaking to Matt Gardner@elephant, he's a total w@nker.
Bit of negotiation with barclays = £895.65. Paid today for insurance starting on the 11 June. Almost very happy!

I drive a WRX STI V6 Type R

I insure through A Plan they quoted me £1050
I have real probs when insuring a vehicle as I have lost my right leg and classed as dissabled, when asked if the car is moddified I say no as it has no mods part from riding on 18's
Then have to explain that I drive with one foot and DVLA are aware of my disability.
Some insurers wont touch me with a barge pole some dont care as long as DVLA are aware.

And yes I do drive with one foot it has no mods whatsoever,
Friends and people are amazed at how I do it but its simple a lot of toe and heal, Launching rapidly is rather difficult but then I just jam the prosthesis on the pedal and nail it.

28
5yrs NCB
2 X SP 30's
Excess 500notes
Also covered me burd, 26yrs

Reckon that'll soon change after reading some of the quotes on hear.

I did the full internet search thingy last weekend and the spread of quotes was staggering, Lowest as above, highest £8427. Three different quotes with Churchill for the same details via different brokers, I went for the cheapest
I have the covernote in my hand and I've paid by switch.
If it all goes pearshaped I will swallow my pride and tell all though I can't see why it should do.
Fingers crossed

When I took out policy:

Age 24, RB5 WR Garaged in good area, No mods, No prangs, No no claims (in co car scheme at time) Careless Driving (Cd10) from just under 3 years ago (ie still active) - Privilige only people to touch me @ £3500. No tracker required and even thou I have one there's no discount.

I know I will need a tracker when I renew in July (if i stick with them). I have since got rid of the company motor and turned 2 years safe company driving into 2 years NCB which they have happily taken into account and pro-rate refunded me.

With me going 25, my CD10 going over three years, 3 yrs NCD and keeping the car un-modded I've got quotes around £1400 for next year but I'm sure it will all change nearer the time !!

Get married in August too so add wife for a discount

Just a suggestion,

But you should consider calling Christian @ Keith Michaels on 020 8288 0677.

I drive an STi V5 with plenty of mods. The car isn't insured in my name so a price comparison wouldn't make sense, but I phoned around years ago when he started insuring me and he beat eveyone else hands down.

Let him know who sent ya

And make sure you talk to Christian!!

Edited as I put my number on there - doh

2002 Impreza WRX, STi Type UK, Prodrive style
Me 28, Wife 29
No mods
6 years no claims
£940

If I add the official Prodrive STi Performance Pack it's only another seventy quid on the premium.

Unhappy

Just renewed this week, god I'm fed up with insurance.
Anyway here's a list of companies I phoned up.

Based on:- My93 WRX, Age28, Low risk Postcode, 11 years NCB (Never claimed), No convictions (Never had any), Garaged, Cat 1 alarm, with wife to drive, Mods declared -alloys, spoiler, exhaust.

Considering the above, i.e never crashed and never been convicted and the fact that the car stays in the garage for about 230 days of the year, mileage less than 2000, I can't see how the insurance companies can justify these prices.

Egg- £800.10 needs tracker though (10% off if paid with egg card)
AA - No imports
Osbourne & son - £895 - £500 excess
Jeremy Randall -never called me back
Barclays - No imports
Keith Michaels - £920 - £500 excess
Liverpool Victoria - Couldn't quote (Over 30's only)
Tett Hamilton Insurance - tracker required
Academy Insurance - not competitive over £1000
Bell direct - £1200
Priviledge - £1300
Crowne Thorne - £1300

Ended up staying with current insurer who is Hyperformance Insurance who quoted £874 with £350 excess + mods.
