Like you know how it works?! To set you straight, the person prosecuting it could quite as easily have been defending it as we all (generally and at the independent bar) both prosecute and defend.

Yes you get paid less to prosecute but that does not mean you won't be as good or put in as much as the person defending. It was the JURY who acquitted!!

Ignorance like yours seriously pi$$es me off. The majority here tend to slag us all off and yet are the first on here to ask for help for yourselves or family/friends when they have a scrape with the law! Hypocrisy!!

Hi Einstein RA how the devil are you?

Mr Davenport said in a statement read by his solicitor Shamsun Nahar that he was "pleased" with the jury's verdict.
That dos'nt sound like the name of a traditional white English solicitor, funny how he did'nt mind a person of a different religion/colour/race to defend him in court

I may be ignorant - but I would be very surprised if he did not have a pretty expensive brief - I may be wrong and maybe his brief was a duty solicitor - you would know more about this than me - because as you say - I am ignorant.
I am so sorry my ignorance pi$$es you off.
Please accept my most humble and sincere apologies. BTW, this applies to all other members of your most esteemed profession.

Quite right Paul, and it seems to be happening all the time these days.

Look I apologise if I came over stroppy, which actually is unlike me. I also apologise for calling you ignorant - not something I should have done.

Unless he paid privately for a silk, then he will have had a barrister who will have been paid in accordance with the regulations. There are no such things as duty briefs-he will have instructed a solicitor who in turn will have instructed a barrister.

The fees barristers are paid (whether you prosecute or defend) are fixed and we are paid by the government.

It is frustrating to be at the butt end of so much abuse on a regular basis - some of the stuff said on here at times is awful. Yet every week, there seems to be a thread asking for legal advice about speeding or family disputes etc etc. I have also had PM's asking for advice. That's fine, i'll help where and if I can, even if that person asking has previously stereotyped me because of my job and said some really quite awful things. Even when you do (calmly and not like a stroppy teenager like I did yesterday ) try and explain the reality, you get shouted down and more abuse. Like I said, it gets me frustrated but even so, that is no excuse for resorting to insults and I again, apologise.
