Just got back from the run in the countryside, up to 500 miles now.

Seen a few scoobys on the way, Silver STi Hawkeye and silver WRX blobeye wagon @ fabian way, also the chap with the blue blobeye in Llandovery.

What a thoroughly entertaining thread! Got off the phone to Bob half an hour ago discussing dates and tuning options and stumbled across this thread. You've got some ***** to go through all that pain mate and get her running, maximum respect.

Hoping mine doesn't do the same during my mapping session in a couple of weeks' time.

Well done Rich, good effort

Mark

Well done Rich, I'm glad to hear all is going well. The remap will be a breeze and then a nice run up to Rhyader on Sunday, do you want me to call round on Sunday morning or meet you at J47 services / Neath Abbey McDonalds?

I would have taken you up on that, but I have had a change in plans and am staying in Cardiff on Saturday night, so I'll meet you at merthyr. I may even try and fit the backbox on Saturday.

Glad you like it Building the engine would have been more enjoyable had I not had the deadline of going to Germany in a couple of weeks.

The reason the valve went was because I have fitted the incorrect plugs (ILFR's) and had told Bob that they the ones in the service guide (which he took to be PFR's). Totally my fault, Bob even commented on how the car was sounding 'pluggy'. If your engine is in good order then there is no reason for it to go pop during a mapping session, Bob is a top bloke and will get the maximum performance out of your motor while keeping it within safe limits.

Just planned my route to Bob's, not the most direct but it will get the mileage up

Also heard back from the clutch supplier, I need to send the clutch back so they can check it.

Going the scenic route then?? lol.

Mine will eventually have to go on a pilgrimage to a mapper, but not the way you go to get to one lol.

Well the saga is over.

Bob worked his magic, it made 302 bhp with plenty of midrange torque. Bob commented on how quiet and balanced the block sounded

The mapping session was also a good test on the engine, was a bit nervous of planting the throttle to the floor for the first time but is was all ok in the end.

Couple of heat shields, undertray, etc left to fit and it's all done

Glad to hear it all went well , that'll teach you to read American maintenance manuals.

See you tomorrow.

Thanks Guys,

I think I did stop breathing the first time Bob asked me to floor it, I only had the bottle to open it up to 68%. By the end I was foot flat until we were over 7k revs.

I'll catch up with everyone at Elan Valley tomorrow.

Looked at my statement today, don't think I've ever spent so much on fuel in a weekend . The joy of owning an impreza all run in now though. Thanks for the new bolts Ty, they are going on today
