No it is not like a torrent. That would require you to share the downloaded file. It is a straight download from Apple's severs. They will be, not unsurprisingly, rather overloaded as many many people download the update
I think it took me about 2 mins to get the 3g version
for anyone who has/ had the gm seed version, the build number is the same so it is the same version.

Multitasking works great, but your applications need to be updated to take advantage of it.
What was the Sleep Timer bug? I use it all the time to play an hours worth of iPod.

When I go into Itunes (9.2) - it's only giving me an option of upgrading to 3.1.3 (running 3.1.2). Wonder why it's not showing 4? (surely I don't have to do an incremental upgrade first?).

OS4 dowloaded very quickly, but the backup and installation took about 45 mins (3G)
New dock looks nice and the folders work well. Haven't had cause to use the unified inbox yet. Liking the way it groups emails by discussion thread. Spell check handy, seems more responsive. Some handy changes to settings options too. All in no downside, but obviously needs a 3gs or 4 for full effect.

Occurs on itouch, not to sure about iphone
basically you start the sleep timer and go to ipod... it runs for your allocated time and shuts off , all good
If you do the same but use a streaming app ie last FM, it runs for the
allocated time, shuts down the i touch, and then wakes up again and
continues to stream audio, either until you wake up, or the battery runs
flat.

On the iPhone it just says 'Sleep iPod' which on a iPhone is fine, it does just that, bit different when you're device is an iPod I guess.

Got mine updated last night - probably due to not having huge amounts of music on my 3GS, but from starting the ios4 download in itunes to using the phone with the new operating system installed and all data in as before took less than an hour.

Blimey that was painful. After it downloaded and failed to install (error 21 - unknown error) I really thought the update had bricked the phone. It wouldn't restore or even revert to factory settings. Finally got it working by installing itunes on a diffeent machine, doing a factory restore there, then connecting it back up to the original machine and restoring from the backup. I wasn't really expecting my phone upgrade to take 4 hours and involve a lot of swearing!!!
Very unimpressed with Apple at the moment

For those having download issues with iTunes, here's what you could try:
1) Go to this page for the iPhone downloads and this other page for iPod downloads, and then download the 4.0 update appropriate to your device. I have used the 4.0 for 3G and 3GS and they do indeed work and seem valid
2) Launch iTunes, connect your device. When you see it listed in the "Devices" list, right click on it and select "Backup" (you may want to also select "Transfer my purchases" too).
3) On the "Summary" screen for the device, option/alt click the Restore button, it will present you with a dialog, navigate to where you downloaded the ipsw file and select it.
4) The restore process will begin. Once it is complete you will be asked to setup the phone, and you can select the option to restore from a backup, which is probably what you want to do.
If you have a JB / Unlock (not an official one, ie; from O2) then you will lose this. You may also find you need to sync your music back with the device.
Regardless, perform the above with caution and don't blame me if you lose things.

Mine downloaded and was less then an hr, but my downloaded photos only are very blurred. I have re sunk 3 times and still no joy, note I no longer have access to the downloaded pics as they was on my old laptop. So if I lose then then I have no means of getting them back. Does this mean the pics will stop crap with out the originals to redownload them.
Cheers
