Kinda stupid comment to be honest - you could be scared by STI Handeling as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_Yn3mNnvW4

Sure he's not the only person who's mashed his car up by trying to hard or having too much fun.

Didn't think it was in the slightest bit funny to be honest - but that's my view. I would be well and truly gutted if something like that happened to me (not that I plan on tracking my car).

Lad involved is indeed OK, but by the sounds of it is about to get a hefty bill from the Ring and had no track insurance either - so he's lost a lot, hence the above comments.

just popped on n read this thread n was shocked man. my 1st standard my98 type r and current my99 type r (319bhp n 325 lb ft b4 it dropped to 0.4 bar of boost for some unknown reason :s) seen off any vxr i raced easily. including a nurbergring only one tht kept up in a straight line was a mates tht's pushin 260bhp. i just assumed tht was obviously gonna happen cause my impreza's lighter and much shorter geared. i dunno. down to driver on the day probably. i was probably racing someone who hadn't a clue

You ever been in a Vectra VXR ?? More to the point you ever been in a mapped Vectra VXR ?? My guess is no - your 99 type R isn't quick enough to keep up with it

only ever been in one vectra m8. apparently it was runnin 308 bhp, the guy didnt give a torque figure though. but i dont even know if the power figure was right cause the guy tended to talk crap n the 260 bhp astra stuck closer to me. haha. my type r beat that one anyway. but it's the only one i've ever raced unfortunately i don't actually think they're bins btw, tht was just a joke, i know they're fast wen they get going

Mapped Vectra VXR is 300/400. You would need 350/350 in a Scooby to be able to keep pace on once cars are on the move - so reasonably quick yeah.

Of course were talking straight dry roads here, no illusions on that one.

tht's wat i thought. the guy who i went out with was probably talkin crap, cause the astra was defo quicker. would love to hav a proper race with one. not many about here, mainly astras n corsas. lol. wat kinda time does a vectra running 300/400 run on a quarter mile mate. i've only done a drag day once it was in my first type r. standard ran a 13 dead with quite a bogged down start cause i value my clutch was curious if i could run with the vectra over a short distance like tht

as said before im hopfully doing some real world testing between the two cars in the summer.
ring lap
1/4 mile drag (1 mile if i can find one in germany)
30-100 rolling test.

gonna be our first trip to the ring so gonna be getting some track time in, work permmiting. the cars arnt up to full spec yet as i only bought my sti a week ago.
vxr:TMS stage 3 package with 300bhp and 340lb
kw variant 3
anti role bars and strut braces all over the shop
big brake kit
td 1.2 18" (will have r888 for track)
sti: standard with prodrive package but will be sorting out hndling very soon.
we are looking at a garret conversion for the vxr to give it 330bhp and tuning the sti to same sort of power. still doing my homework for the sti but will hopfully have very similar cars, with power:weight being the the key area of interest. theres loads of figures bouncing around on this subject and id rather have the proof myself knowing that the tests were are as fair as can be.

Good for you.

By the way i had a look in your profile, no car in garage, no friends at all

Do you have a car or are you pretending.

Oh and the 335i is limited to 155 unless mapped this is slow.

(I'm doing that in 5th with 10mph more and then I change to 6th).

We were havin a sensible thread till you posted.

Vectras are not built for the 1/4 m8, your scoob will always be quicker as it will get better traction, the vecs pullin weight and all the power is over the front so getting off the line is not as easy as it is inthe scoob.

If you get an absolute belter of a start you might see 13.6\7 in the vec but this would be very rare, most Stage 1 vecs see around 14.2 as traction is an issue, Stage 2\3 Vecs have never run the 1/4 so there is not proper times for them.

As said the vec can only show it's muscle from rolling.

To get a 13 dead out of a standard type R, you would have had to have been very abusive to it, what was the terminal speed you ended up with?

Not intending to slagging the vec off at all, but what the **** was up with the one clarkson slated/tested? Did vauxhall address the handling, or is it a consequence of all that torque and fwd? Or did clarkson just it look ****e by turning off the traction control and cooking the tyres? Or is it just a once rolling, straight line machine.

What Top Gear failed to advertise in their review of the Vectra VXR was that the VXR they had to test wouldn't allow the Traction Control to be switched off. So Top Gear in their infinate wisdom removed the fuse for the traction control to switch it off completly. What they failed to realise is that by doing this they were also cutting out the IDS damepning control etc which has a dramatic effect on the way the Vectra handles.

Granted the Vectra isn't in the same leauge as a 4WD rally car's, but the handeling is far better than Clarkson made it out to be.

Nope

The impreza might have handling but you'll finish with a Sexually Transmitted Infection.

Whereas you'll be happy in the Vec after having a Very Xciting Race.

It's been good banter with you guys and thanks for non hostile fun, I might pop in now and again as you are all a good bunch.

see you later.
