i like astra vxr,s they really are very capable good looking motors and very easy to tune!
if i didnt love 4 wheel drive jap turbo power so much that would be pretty high up on my list of weapons of choice! especially in red :-)

where from out of interest ?

Powerstation quote £1400 for 340bhp with EcuTek / Milltek / K&N filter

The other usual suspects (Zen Performance, Power Engineering, TSL motorsport) dont quote power or prices.

I am running a group buy with Bob Rawle at the moment, although it runs out at the end of the month and an Ecutek remap (assuming no existing licence) is £400.00 plus VAT, so it is £470.00 all in.

This group buy I think has been quite successful and is priced really well, most Ecutek first maps are around £625.00.

It can be done with as little as £350 with Dunc at Dynamix if you're not worried about the Ecutek name.

330s has everything in place..just needs an ecu re-map...
(if you wanted to get really fussy and maximize the power, add a de-catted downpipe and a litchfield air intake...so another £400)

SUPRISING ! Track weapon it is !, especially for the money
I would love to have a go at a astra vxr on the track, never seen one on track days? loads of scoobs though !
On that day I could only find 205gtis, porche 924 racers,novas, corsas, fiestas, kitcars, saxos, and cossies , all of which were impressive at times... but nothing that blew me away on that day?!?
, Most of the cars were much less than 4 grand... alot cheaper than a vxr I think ? (currently on pistonheads £cheapest is 7 grand )

Im new to scoobies, my old fun fast car was a £2500 pug205 tuned to 175bhp and more torque steer than I care to remember, amazing pull at 80mph, much lighter than the scoob or M3... but priest driving only in the wet much like the vxr I imagine?.. I cant believe powerful frontwheel cars can have come on so much... ? especially after what I have seen on the track, most cars were track tuned and the rover had a geo set up +proxy888, lowered, stiffened, strut brace, the works, my mate driving was also very experienced and he was only just a bit better round the corners...

Now I have toyos and I am gobsmacked everyday I take the scooby round a corner faster than anything I have ever known.. it just grips and grips and when it finally lets go it just four wheel drifts in such a predictable fashion.. im doing corners on tracks at silly speeds just trying to get it to let go...

SCOOBYlove !!! I love the noise, love the character, love the handling , love the looks, dont love the MPG, and I respect the VXR and mosts fast cars ... this is just my new personal experience so far ..http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/luxhello.gif

Now dont get me wrong, im not going to claim that dynolicious is 100 % accurate, but the 1/4 mile time in that run was 14.5 seconds ... which remapped VXRs can hit all day long.

So its going to be accurate to within one or two tenths of a second. If not faster, a remapped Vec VXR is going to keep pace with a PPP 2.5 STI once rolling from 30mph.



cant believe ive been drawn into this but ...
My at the time, pretty stock classic wagon did santa pod 1/4mile at 14.8 with subs in the boot?...therefore a standard WRX,STI should muller a standard VRX at least 1/4 standing depending on driver according to those figures ... I dont like book figures they seem to vary alot... like 4 like track comparisons are best.... the skyline next to me might not have been racing I suppose..? lol .. VXR has good torque agreed , and pull from rolling though.. but many a beemer too, has pulled from me in the scoob at over 80mph... but at what cost ? they are normally £10 to £20 grand cars I love whippin expensive cars in my cheap track toy.. I save my old 1985 bike for really destroying people who think they have fast cars.. !!!

I had a play with a vxr astra a few weeks ago and I was in my 2.5 v70 turbo estate Volvo and he couldn't keep up with me from a standstill (traffic lights) so my 300bhp classic would of mullered it without a doubt. I honestly thought it was going to leave me for dead in my volvo but as stated it couldn't keep up so god knows how far behind he would of been if I was in my scooby and before you say he wasn't trying he was as when I pulled up at some lights to turn he beeped and pulled up next to me and said **** that tank is quick. Not condoning racing but the odd traffic light grand prix (in the right circumstances) keeps the blood flowing.

hi mate, I'm bit shocked at peoples low belief of the older imprezas! I have a impreza sti v3 and running 300bhp! on my way down to the dyno last fri a ****** in a vxr tried to race me off a round about Onto a dual carrige way, let's just say I LEFT HIM FOR DUST! he obviously underestimated the potential of our old classic babies :-) 1-0 Subaru

i bought my scooby after selling my vxr which was running 270 bhp with a bluefin remap... loved the car for a while but will tell u now,,, no comparison to my sti... fact... to much torque steer and handled like a lada.... lol... nice looking though....

I owned a Vectra VXR on an 09 plate, was fast, was <ok> to handle but no where near a '07 Scoob hawkeye that I had, even in the dry. Wasnt as fun either, though I have to admit, the interior was much nicer.

Thank god that Arriva bus hit my VXR and turned my car into a mini. Im now owning a lovely 2009 WRX modded to the hilt

lol this thread is hilarious but i cant help to have my 2 bobs worth on the discussion . about 2 mths ago i put a car cover over my wrx and parked for i have a new love . my 07 astra vxr . since owning it ive smashed alot of v8 clubsports from the lights , scoobs , vw r32 without even touching my vxr switch . lol . you have to admit thats impressive for a 2.0 vehicle ive only changed the dump pipe thats it . today i even smashed an audi tt . to be honest i though it would've been quicker ..... lol very disappointed .

Sat up his butt as he floored it from the lights, but as soon as he got to a roundabout, he flew across like a mad man and threw up loads of stones at which point I just thought fudge this and backed off.

Problem is we care about our motors too much, so we backoff as we watch them almost kill themselves. I'll prove myself on a track, but not on the street. You carry on Pal, I have nothing to prove.

There are 2 VXR's in Swansea going around one 56 plate red one with apparently 440/440 and a blue one with a private plate supposedly running over 500/500 would be interesting to see them both go flat out.

There is one running about Perth too. Don't know what its got under the hood, but it shocked me how rapid it was. (Got overtaken in my land rover on a back road).

My first ecutek map on my blob sti was £400 all in

They are quick cars to most standard motors but its still an astra and it still understeers like a bitch round anything other than a straight line.

Just bought the missus a Astra Sri cdti 150 that's been mapped. Next to a standard vxr there isn't anything in it.

My mate has a 450 ashtray vxr, what a pointless car. Wheel spins everywhere and once rolling he still drops back and then when we get to a corner he disappears.

What ever floats your boat, ***** waving or driving I suppose

coz you know deep down you wouldn't of been able to keep up .....LOL I use to own the 2015 sti and got **** on by an s3..... Subaru's have had their day iam afraid.............

Raced my mate in a mapped insignia vxr. I shouldn't have wasted the petrol. Over a mile stretch of road, I let him go first to pull out of the junction then I stopped to make sure nothing was coming and set off he was maybe 50ft ahead and after about 3 seconds I was passing him, after about 8 seconds I could just say see him in the mirror in between the flashes from the flames coming out of my exhaust while flat foot gear changing.
There's no comparison really.

Corsa, astra, insignia or whatever other ****box they can squeeze that (fairly decent) engine into.......
Take them home!!!

What a waste of time flat foot gear changes are lol

I fitted the switch and that to mine and feel robbed. Not even used it yet but managed to pull out 2/3 car lengths on a car that was using it every time he changed gear lol. Of you can change gear well enough I do not see a benefit lol
