Morning all,
I've owned my Blobeye for 4 months now. It's my first scooby and it certainly won't be the last.
Like most on here, I like to put my foot down every now and then.
Whilst at the lights, we all like to have a bit of fun (nothing too dangerous I'm sure). I have all types of cars that try it on at the lights, but I've pulled up next to a few scoobies and they just pull off gently.
Is there an unwritten rule that we don't have a bit of fun off the lights with a fellow scooby owner?
I'm not for one second suggesting that anyone should race around like a nutter all the time. But at some lights on A road, middle of the night etc is a bit different.
Let me know you thoughts. Thanks

Im lucky I have a few nice quiet 70mph dual carraiage ways close by where my turbo gets used regularly.
Shame the post turned sour as many seem to do on here. Enjoy your car mate after all thats why we bought them, well i did anyway.

From my personal experience I have found as I have gone up in power, the less inclined I am to thrash the car because somebody is baiting me.
Will have the odd blast on my own but that is for personal statisfaction and not to "prove" anything to any one
Classics have fallen into the chav hands, always spotted by them dropping back and then flooring it to make the chav valve going off
Banny

Indeed: I always recall another example where an Impreza driver was negotiating a country road (at speed) and another car (Rover ZT) was behind him, presumably trying to keep up or race him, lost it on a bend, crashed and, unfortunately, died. The Subaru driver was given a custodial sentence if I recall.
Just not worth it!

im pretty sure they are not in there because they were being driven sensibly have you not seen them most look like they have been wrapped around lamp posts, always a sign of careful responsible driving that is! and as for my signature it doesnt say where im driving though does it i could be reffering to a track day i recently attended

what im referring to is your signature and the conversation we just had where you pretty much state that most classic drivers are chavs and then that as soon as the classics are all gone they will move into bug and blob eyes insinuating blob and bug eye drivers at the moment are all in some way better or more sensible than classic owners. my point being that its an unfair statement and painting us all with the same brush. i see plenty of newage drivers acting like f**kwits but dont come on here saying you are all the same do i? thats all

Was driving home last night and an astra turbo shot past me,followed by an M3 lookalike. At the next set of traffic lights, the BMW had gone, leaving the astra and i at the front of a queue waiting at a red traffic light.
For whatever reason, the astra driver started to rev his car and drove straight through the red light, narrowly missing a collision with cars that had started to move on from his n/s.
The mentality of some people

I agree with the majority of points made on this topic, I have never 'played' with another Subaru off the lights, just waved/smiled/thumbs up towards them in respect for what they drive, can be a Subaru sport, classic, newage etc etc. It's still a Subaru, they still have a good taste in a 'base' car as they all start the same, what a person does regarding modifications is to there personal opinion, so saying stickered up cars are 'chavs' is a little bit OTT to be honest.
We are a 3 Subaru family here, my mother owns a Blue mica bugeye WRX with cusco graphics and she is far from a Chav!
She likes the decals, however I'm the other way around I like my cars clean. But again, I'm not one to be a typical stereotype.
And I've got a Version 3 STi and a Version 3 Type R...no graphics, just nice and clean
I'm 21 myself and to the majority of people you may class me as your everyday young chav driver, but thats up to you to base your opinion on someone without having the ***** to talk to a person before judging them.
On the other hand, yes there are a handful of Subaru's owned by arseholes. But we aren't all bad!
I drive my Type R slowly most of the time (still limited as well), I like people driving past me and watching them stare at the car, smile and drive past as it's a great feeling sometimes. In 3 years of owning a Subaru I have done 2 launches on private roads, never done one on a public highway. I've been above speed limits before, but yet again who hasn't? I'm normally happy to play by myself as I get nervous when around other cars or have passangers on my car, not worth putting there lifes at risk. But everyone at some point has broken a speedlimit, it's just picking the correct time and place to do so.
I'm happy to have a clean slate regarding my driving, no claims/crashes or convistions and I plan to keep it that way!
Last thing on the majority of Subaru owners minds is writting there car off, it's my pride and joy and I plan to keep it that way which is why I had my first Subaru wrx at 19, I love the cars...simple!
Also, just because a car can be picked up cheap doesn't mean it's affordable to run/maintain/insure now does it? You may find the majority of insures companies no longer touch Subaru's or Evo's etc as of this year due to some changes in policys, had this problem with my original insure as they no longer insure them so had to loose half a years no claims when moving onto the Type R.
Interesting read to be fair.

Maybe the morons/chavs have already moved into them then, I mean how much can a bug/blob eye be picked up for nowadays?

Interesting topic. I don't think Subarus in particular are driven by idiots, in fact the ones I see on the road are all very well behaved. Its the small, 90s hot-hatches that are driven by youngsters who try to be heroes. When I was 19 (3 years ago) I had a Saxo VTS and I must admit at every traffic light I was itching for a quick play with the guy next to me. If it was another youngster in a hatchback then a quick "race" was almost innevitable at times..
I'm 22 now with a bugeye STi and although my car is much more powerful now, I'm far more relaxed and level headed, and to this day my licence is spotless. To me my car is my pride and joy and I wouldn't want to endanger it, or more importanly myself or someone else on the road by being silly.
Thats not to say I don't enjoy my Scooby every now and then, otherwise I could think of better places to put my money rather than on ridiculous insurance and petrol bills.
Its a call of judgement, a quiet play in safe conditions (night/evening, wide rural area, no risk of pedestrians, visability etc) is alright within reason, as long as we know where to draw a reasonable line and not get carried away.
And as said, trackdays are the place to properly play with our toys.
