just out of interest (and ignorance),
why exactly would the driver of the car get jailed, if he had no direct influence on the way the motorbike was being driven? surely you are responsible for your own decisions and the way you drive your vehicle, and you can't shift the blame onto a person who wasn't in control of it?
could I drive down the road, get distracted by a woman in a very short skirt, stuff my car into a lamp post looking, then blame her for my whiplash?
i'm not trying to cause an argument, just can't see the logic?

Racing on the public highway is the preserve of the idiot. Note that both of the pair above will be going down, and with good reason.

That accident shows how much damage a pimply oik in a 106 can do. How many seconds do you think it'll take for you and the notional Evo driver to be in licence-losing territory, let alone anything else? If you're concentrating on trying to stay in front of him, are you going to be paying as much attention as you should be to the road, what else is on it (and about to enter it) and what you need to be doing to stay safely on it, let alone whether there's a copper or speed enforcement van keeping an eye?

Splitpin I do understand what your saying and I agree but can't help the fact that trackdays are so expensive. So every time I fancy a little burst I should pay 200quid to go on a track.
For the record I always stay within the limits during busy hours and on normal residential roads, the beast is only leashed on duel carrige ways and empty motorways late at night.

i dont care who you are or what age you are everyone has at some point has had a play on a public road and exceeded the speed limit and anyone who says they havent is a liar so calling people out for doing it now as if you havent is just hypocritical. im not saying it is right or that there isnt a bit of common sense needed when choosing when to put your foot down a bit on a road but we were all young once and why do we own scoobys if the only time you put your foot down is on a track? i know my drive to work would be a lot less fun and a lot longer in a corsa or something **** like that. but thats just my opinion im sure someone claiming to be prim and proper will disagree with me

Well said zippy.
I honestly believe that scooby drivers are some of the most careful drivers around, during normal driving hours.
We all spend lots of money on our cars and a lot in maintaining them and keeping them running. The last thing we would want is to bump into the back of someone else during rush hour.
However as zippy said, why would you own a performance car if you never put your foot down?
I'm not even saying you have exceed 70mph on a motorway. But all of us have pulled off from somewhere a lot quicker than we should have.
Afterall, are some of you saying you have hardly ever used your turbo? Please.

The primary issue here is the word "racing" in your thread title. Implicit in that is the involvement of at least two cars as well as the concept of "winning".
Getting involved with someone else takes some of your attention away from driving the car and also makes judgement of speed a relative one involving the other car rather than simply a matter of your own judgement. You won't want to slow down if the other guy doesn't - even if he's taking too much speed into a corner and, on your own, you'd have braked.
That's no doubt part of the reason why the driver of the car in the motorbike incident went down, and why both of the drivers in the taxi driver death will be spending some time in choky, despite only one of them actually hitting the victim's car. The driving of one was clearly influencing the other.
The idea that you can "win" a "race" on the road might have some cachet in Fast and Furious films, but in reality you'll never know whether the other driver simply stopped trying. And, of course, if you get involved with someone who either has more bottle/less intelligence/cares less about their licence/a faster car than you, you'll get "beat", which might be annoying.
every1sgottablue1 makes a very good point.

A little play away from the lights is as good as street racing TBH, what happens when both cars hit the speed limit which does not take very long in cars like ours do they both slow down to stay within the limit? do they **** they keep going till one backs off or runs out of road, if you want to drag against other cars try a drag strip

I've had a little blast off the lights,i suppose we all have at some time. BUT! as soon as the speed limit is reached it's time to back off. We are lucky around here, most of the traffic lights around town are in 50 or 60mph zones. As for street racing i would rather spend £100 or so on a trackday and know my liscence will be safe.

I used to think the sooner all of the classics were off the road the better, but then realised the ***** and chavs will just sticker up the bug/blob eyes and move into them next, unfortunately Subaru are a long way off from shaking off the chav tag!
so what your saying then is that first off all classic owners are chavs and second that classics are the only scoobys that race or play around on the roads and at traffic lights? dont think so mate do you!

Wow just read this thread with my eyes wide open... judging by some of the comments made here, it seems like as soon as someone pulls away sharpish next to some one in a quick car (i.e. having a bit of fun) then it automatically descends into a full blown drag strip race, with rev limiters bouncing and neither person reluctant to give in... sounds like some of you have been watching too much fast and the furious. Don't get me wrong there will be some people that drive like complete w@nkers - and some of those will own scoobies too, but reading this, you'd think this was a bulletin board for saga holidays.. Everyone has some fun on the roads from time to time (and not just at 2am on a carriageway) - some more than others - You don't have to be speeding or driving like a lunatic to enjoy yourself even with other cars.

Under ground street racing has been happening for years weather it's well organised events with walkie talkies or some chavs with there corsas in a tesco car park it will never stop unless things like trackdays or days out on the strip become cheaper. On the other side of the coin some just love the thrill

If people what to have a play on the roads then it's up to them.
Imagine this though..... you're at the traffic lights and someone pulls up to you in a snotty Corsa, and floor it once the lights turn green.
Most of us would think ''what a ****''.
Now imagine how you look when you floor it away from the lights in your Impreza. Guess what others think of you?

Comparing cars at traffic lights up to the speed limit is in my opinion a long way from street racing, its interesting to see performance of other cars in a real world environment, i would never do a full bore start at the lights as i don’t really care about winning if that’s the correct word to use.
i agree with baldfox ou don't have to be speeding or driving like a lunatic to enjoy yourself even with other cars.
