Who gives a **** about bhp and fuel. I give more of a **** about "who" is behind the wheel and what the handling setup is like. That's why I handed my car keys over to Simon to do the business in the overweight, under powered and exceedingly expensive shopping trolley class last year.
Duncan,
How can any car be too fast for track days?! You don't have to complete 1m15s laps every time you go to Snetterton you know (as an example) for a track day. I was taking it easy when I went last year to Snett for a public track day.... the car is easily capable of doing damn sight quicker laps than the 1m22s I was doing, yet it was still great fun, even though the car was not being pushed at all.
You don't have to keep your boot in all the time to enjoy a track day.

MAN I CANNOT WAIT TILL THE 24TH! this is gonna be some hardcore ****
were gonna need ringside seats not cars.
i know andy and edmy have been working hard on his car over the winter, less power but more of a weapon by the sounds of it, edmy has mapped it to perfection so should be setup nicely for the track.
but hey who knows ...............
NOT LONG TO WAIT TO FIND OUT THOUGH
how much of a weight saving will your fibreglass doors be in relation to say my totally gutted spec c doors? might be something i have to look into as the only piece i can cut to save major weight is the back seat structure

Shaun get your car at cadwell on a normal trackday where you cant pass anyone for half a lap and you will appreciate that it can be too quick. Sure you dont need to put your foot down all the time but whats the point of having a great handling car with grunt that you cant give it a full pace lap without being held up and having to wait for the next straight

Duncan,
That's more to do with the type of track and the fact of the subscription for a track day than anything else. I did Cadwell last year with a couple of mates alongside the BMW Owners Club (work that one out) and it was the same situation as you describe for me.... didn't make the evening any less enjoyable by being constrained. It was all about mates having a good laugh. However, the evening was not heavily subscribed.
Of course.... your perspective is totally appreciable if you are leaning towards the fact that track days are not your bag anymore, which is fine and your personal opinion based on what you actually want to get out of going on track...... but like I said, this does not actually mean your car is too quick for a track day imo.
I am still learning so it is all invaluable experience for me, even if I do tend to be very picky on public type track days, as some seem to attract certain "wannabee's" and "boy racers" which I am keen to avoid.

You still got the 'intensive' exam to do then
You appreciate just how slow your car is on some test days.
I agree 100% with your too fast for trackdays statement. It's pointless having a car that is designed and made to run fast on a track and go less than flat out. I have found myself having some hairy moments due to track days. Up clay hill flat out to find some slow GT3 on the wrong line brake testing just over the top!
I also think it's pointless having a car that out performs the driver. I hate seeing that on track days

A track day is all about having fun, not being able to drive a car like Ayrton Senna...... but at the same time you need to have more ability than Mr Magoo!

Ok, not one of my best statements. I couldn't be bothered to write anymore
Maybe I should have said that I don't like going to trackdays where some people have all the gear and no idea........ but think they are driving gods.
But yes, so long as your having fun thats all that counts. Unless you think your great and drive terrebly, and don't shift out the way, or argue with you that your car must have 700 bhp because theres has 600 and you were 10 seconds faster a lap, or similar stuff. But obviously you don't time on trackdays.
That better?

Can understand where both you, Shaun and John are coming from.
It just really depends whet you want from your track/fun car.
Get some pics of your new cage on here mate.

The sizes from mine would be pointless unless you plan to remove all your interior.
I spoke to Sonny about this and if you want to get the car down there they will build the cage to fit inside the full interior exactly the same as they did with mine when they made it. I am sure he would do a great job and will be less than you think for a custom install.
Alternatively you persuade the subsequent owner of that cage to drop their car up to them for them to measure that so they can make a jig up ...

I love the way they have tied it into the a pillars really tightly and built it into the existing cross dash bar so that everything will fit back in place as it was.
The welds are lush and it will look great once painted.
