Pete: The Exedy twin plate will do the job for now. The finished car may be seen on the drag strip from time to time but essentially the cars build is with a view of track work, handling events etc.

Daz knows the power levels required and has a basic plan for the build but availability & sourcing of some parts may revert to other options which he also has planned.

We have received several offers from some big names in the tuning world requesting there assistance in different areas of the build. Some will be involved at some point. These will become evident as the thread progresses.

The project may seem flat at the moment but we can assure you it's not.
Regarding the shell work, we are just waiting for prices of different options.
With regard to the engine build, things will be a lot clearer within the next couple of days.

We could post up several issues now, but we want to get things right and that way this thread wont appear to be confusing, whereby one minute we are doing this and the next moment we are doing that.

Cheers for that Clive, if it holds up with your fierce launches it will be ok for P2.

Would be cool jumping in the passenger seat for a blast down the quarter in your beast one day mate, as the new Pod laws now permit such fun

Marham would be perfect, Young Clive pencil me in for a passenger ride

OK, a bit more info re the engine build.

We've decided to use STI V 4 heads, these will be full monty heads, ported, polished, double valve springs titanium retainers and some proper cams. This will also save messing about with wiring looms and throttle bodies etc.

I've bought a complete V4 STI engine that had a big end failure for roughly what a set of heads would cost

I did this for two reasons:
1. It had the correct heads for the year of the shell and we needed a set of heads
2. It would have all the little bits and pieces for a rebuild such as all the sensors, cambelt covers, wiring looms, alternator, starter etc.

This has saved an absolute fortune and also alot of time and hassle in trying to source all these bits and pieces seperately.

ARCHES.

mmmm undecided on what route to take regarding arches bearing in mind our budget.

Having spent some time looking into this & discussing with SPR Coachworks we have 3 options.

Option 1. Steel arched option will work out expensive.

Option 2. Fibre glass kit is a couple of grand cheaper but having spoken to SPR the extra work involved making this option fit properly & look good when painted could equal the costs of the steel arch kit.

Option 3. Is this way. It will still serve the purpose of allowing a wider track
and could save 2 - 3 K allowing that money to be spent elsewhere on the car.
If this was done properly I think it looks pretty good. What are your views chaps ???

It was a trade off Young Clive I was offered some AVCS Heads but that would be another chunk of the budget gone that could be spent else where. I think if this was going to be a road car then they would be bought purely to aid spool. However as this is a track car low down stuff isn't much of an issue so this will enable some wild cams if we want.

It's another decision made and has given us more to play with budget wise. It also has to be said that your car is a very good bench mark to aim for.

I totally agree with your thinking, I have had all the spool questions thrown at me about mine but it makes no difference to me, car lives between 5-8k revs Although I must say it is still perfectly drivable on the road at normal speeds if I want but I choose not to most of the time. My cams work very well and have been proven time and time again. What's your opinions on cams for this build ?

I'm honestly not sure now mate. I was already to go the Cosworth route
with the AVCS heads but that's no longer happening.

I'm at RCM tomorrow so I'll be discussing that and turbo options with them tomorrow.
I should have a clearer picture of which way we're going tomorrow evening.

I've had a similar dilemma, if you've not already, check out GST Motorsport's Project L Time Attack car - that's another car that used to use simple bolt-on arches to great effect, to house 275-wide tyres. www.gstmotorsports.com

i,ve just had these arches fitted to my car . i just need some wider wheels now the ones that are on it are 9j 25 offset with 255 rubber , but i think they need 9.5j with a 10 offset with 265 rubber .

Busy day today.

Started with a knock at the door and a delivery consisting of 70kilos of parts from Lateral

Delivered Today:

1 EJ22 Closed deck Block
1 EJ257 Crankshaft
1 set of ACL Race Series Big end bearings
1 Set of ACL Race Series Phase 2 Main bearings
1 ACL Race Series Centre Thrust Bearing
1 Set of Wiseco 97.5mm Stroker Pistons
1 Exedy Twin Plate Clutch
1 Solaris S6GP ECU
Group N gearbox and engine mounts.
Fuel Labs 1000bhp fuel Pump
Fuel Labs Billet fuel filter.

I've taken the block down to RCM for the required machining work.

I've also bought a donor STI V4 engine for all the little bits and pieces a build like this requires.

After discussing the build with Olly and Matt the spec of the car is pretty much finalised. More on this later meanwhile here are some pictures of todays parts arrival.
