I've got one of these dodgy 218 hp euro spec scoobs (MY00)...and I have to say that driving technique is the key to get it around bends quickly.

Even with my Leda B (spring rates: 225 rear and 300 front methinks) I can get the car to understeer badly, it's just a matter of booting it too early before the apex, getting the front tires to slip. Then it understeers, it's as simple as that.

Brake late, turn in hard and apply loud pedal after the apex.

Or summat...

/Jerry - Sweden

P.S.
Leda rules.

My 98 Impreza on standard springs /shocks does not understeer. Right JohnF?

Just get your brother to get to Scoobysport or Powerstation.

Most definetly a wind up.Any one remember the Cavalier turbo or the Calibra turbo. They were dismal attempts at AWD turbo cars. That engine was so bad that in the short period the Calibra was a rally car with factory support they couldnt make it produce more than 260bhp.Very few cars on the road can stick with a Subaru above 80 mph, especially a cavalier.

If your brother can't get his scoob to handle well then perhaps he needs to go on an AWD driving course.

If your cavalier is powersliding you are in reverse.

Agree with most of the posts - put it on a track and you will probably be humiliated. Drive at 100mph on public roads and you will be arrested hopefully.

Is the scoob the best car in the world? Nope. But we're here to talk about scoobs and how much we love 'em. Go troll somewhere else.

Stick to the subject Kev2000. Were talking about a front wheel drive SRi here. Not a Turbo or AWD Cav in sight.

And no my brother dont drive like a muppet, and neither do I, anyone that can get a Cav to slide at 100 is no poor driver.

I'm still not convinced by any of whats written so far. The only excuses people come up with is that Vauxhalls are crap, I drive crap, it's a AWD so not use to the Impretza, should not be driving fast (so why did you have an Impreza then??), or watch an Impreza on the track.

Someone here compared his Impreza doing over 60 compared to a Astra Van doing 48 on the same Corner. The Koni Kit gives a Cav a huge margin, a lot more then 12mph on a 48mph corner ;-)

If you ever get in a Koni Fitted Cav, with a fast driver you will be truly amazed by what it can do.

Ye well Vauxhalls are crap.I just love how they all have such a precise gear change and there fantastic feel that they give through their crappy two spoke steering wheels.MMMMMM, I almost want to rush out and buy sell my fantastic Impreza and buy a Cavalier. Then I can put an entry in for next years British touring car championship and apparently with new suspension and the standard wheels the factory teams wont stand a chance.

Anyhow put short my 16vSRi will get from one end of a B road, just as fast (if not faster) then my brothers Impreza. Does that constitute bad handling to you?

????????????????????????????????????????????

Did I just pee all over you on the A4 tonight?? there was a clown in a dressed-up cavalier thought he could get to the end of the road faster - he didnt!!

Does your brother own the 1.6Gl by the way??

As I posted earlier in this thread I did have a Koni equiped Cavalier and didnt rate it that high. Handled just a bit better than my Koni equiped Astra GTE 16V I had before it. Great engine in both cars, crap handling even with Koni. Sure it wasnt my wife driving the Impreza ?. Now I would believe you then.

I'm talking about handling here, the impreza is very fast, but that’s no good it don't turn corners. The secret to driving fast is maintaining your speed from corner-to-corner, if the impreza don’t handle you will just live on the brakes.

And no has a 97 UK Turbo, with Avo suspension & 17" wheels. Try reading the posts then you will know where were up to.

And Kev2000 why don’t you speak some sense. Better still tell me what car you had before the Impreza, and what you’re comparing it to.

What’s happens with the impreza is that people see it on TV doing the rallying, the motorpress get hold of it, and say it's the dogs. THEN people that are not use to driving a fast car, buy one and think it's the dogs. It's a tossers car lets face it, driven by tossers that would normally never have a fast car.

And don’t slate me for saying I do 100 corners, cus I’ve just seen 2 posts on radar detectors. And who was that guy that slated me, and in the same sentence said he hit the 112 limit on a corner. Pot calling ketal black I think.

AND STILL NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN WHY MY BROTHERS CAR DON’T HANDLE, EVEN WITH THE SPECS GIVEN OUT

Thumbs up

Ok the guy wanted to know how to improve the handling of his brohers impreza.
Several suggestions.
1. Go to a after market tuner. E.G scoobysport,Scoobymania, powerstation and get them to have a look.
2. Have the bump steer mod one ~100 quid
3. Learn to drive the car better(Not commenting on your bro's ability) but there are some people on this BBS, who can outrun turbo impreza's in a normal Impreza sport because they are so good a driver.
4. Take the car to a track to go stupid speeds. You might be capable of drving the car at 100 around a bend but the old dear in the metro coming the other way is'nt!

Jason
Stop being such a dick, I could'nt give a flying f**k how fast you exit corners. I had a good mate killed needlessly in a crash caused by a lunatic coming the other way at god knows what speed. There is a big difference in a fast driver and a chopper like yourself. There is fast and then there is dangerous. Save you're talk of speed for a trackday, you will soon see how fast and good you are.At least there if it all goes wrong you hopefully won't take anyone else with you.To55er

In my book anyone that drives at 100+ on twisty public roads is a muppet Begone and bait another BBS. By the way, if you had a serious question you should have posted it on the correct forum i.e 'Suspension'.

Bye, bye.

Look Jason Vauxhall are crap.I work in a Subaru garage and have driven almost every single car on the road and unfortunately some of them were Cavaliers,Kadetts,Astras,Calibres,Omegas, Novas, and with each car I have probably driven each variation from the base model to the GSi versions and one word describes them all, ****E!.

mmmmmm....me thinks that the biggest factors affecting a "road race" on the open road are:
1 - who is the stupidest driver willing to take mad risks with unespected obstacles / cars / tracktors / stray dogs / etc
2 - who is more familiar with the road in question
3 - who is the more skilled driver
4 - tires
5 - the car
I've had various performance cars including a normal sub turbo, an sti, an s3 and now an elise111s, and I can hold my own on a track, however I've been beaten many times on road by everything from Astra vans to BMWs to scooters, as I value my, my passenger, and other road users lives more than the other person who night be willing to drive stupidly on public roads.
Go race on the track and you'll then be able to say wheather you / your car really is superior to someone else.

Webmaster - please get rid of this clown, he's starting to pi55 people off. The difference between this **** and 6SSK is that the later's posts were a bit tongue in cheek. JasonM's are not.

Jason,

i have driven / owned performance cavs/ford/subarus/honda etc and can say that i honestly think that you are 12 and have a "my daddy's better than yours" complex - grow up you t*****.

crawl back under the rock you came from

p.s. i no longer own a scooby turbo but i have to defend the name when some ar*e talks sh*te.

p.s.s take a lap around donno with either Stef or S de B and i challenge you to say that scoobs do not handle well

chortle

(p.s.s.s i know ****e all about handling but can honestly say that i had the highest confidence - exit speeds in a scoob)

That picture just makes me want to go out and drive me Subaru right now,it doesnt prove they dont handle you poor fool.Maybe you car doesnt roll cause it has no suspension left but most badly designed front wheel drive cars like the Cavalier have a habit of lifting their inside back wheel totally off the ground???

I give up. You have me totally convinced. I'm going to sell my STi6 Type R at the first opportunity and get a "Cav". So what mods should I get for my "Cav"? Is there a mod that stops you from looking like an utter cretin when driving it? Does it come with a free, ugly, sour-faced 15 year-old bird in the front passenger seat? How loud can the stereo go to? Which baseball hat should I wear? Which BBS should I post rubbish on? Which stretch of public road should I attempt to break the land speed record on? What is the reason for my continuing existance given the fact that I have become an illiterate, crud-car driving retard?

Happy driving to you all!

(As the great man would say).

Not with the Koni Kit on, they just as sooner slide, than try and lift up, path of least resistance you see. And the best thing about the Kit is that you can adjust the dampers to get your perfect car balance and settings.

Having said all this my brother runs soft competition suspension, and even with less body roll than my Cav, it still doesn’t handle right.

And who was the person that described me as a 12 year old kid. If I wanted I could go on a Cav Site and say the Impreza handles better than a cav. Instead I choose to come on here and say that Koni Cav's handle better than standard Impreza. Harder to believe but at least true.

And Kev2000 you see that picture and want to go out and drive your car. I see a car that’s unstable on the limit, and dangerous to drive fast.

Jason,M,M2 etc....,

Can you tell me what part of the country you live in ? because I would love to point you in the direction of the nearest race track.

I will gladly come along and and let you show me how well your Cavalier handles (If you haven't had your pocket money this week I will even pay for the day).

If you Cavalier puts in quicker track times than me, I will let you take my scooby home (I can't get fairer than that, can I ?).

Let me know ??

p.s. Abingdon Is always a good one (not too many long straights) see

Er, that picture of the WRX "rolling" is seriously rotated. Don't know if it is a photoshop job or a camera held seriously at an angle.

Let me guess Jason, you also think that the bits in Batman when he walks up a building are real too?

So what consitutes a decent set-up then, springs, dampers, anti-roll bars, big wheels and tyres. I know the later Imprezas have 16” wheels std now, but your telling me a decent set-up comes out of the box as standard!

And I never said they handle bad, just that there over rated. I’m comparing a SRi with Koni Kit, to an UK standard Impreza here not after it’s been modified. And let me guess your running standard springs and shocks on your SRi. Cavaliers simply don't handle standard.

And maybe you can tell me then, what’s a decent suspension set-up for a UK Impreza, my brothers spent big money trying to fix his, and it’s still not right.

And why have you driven and know about every Impreza on the market, let me guess you work at a garage that specialises in fixing these things!

Cool

Lets have some proper info on here shall we??!!
So jason, your car has rock solid suspension then?? well did you know that having rock solid suspension has the opposite affect to having slightly soft suspension due to the fact that the car needs travel to stop it flying off the road!!!!!
just ask any of those F1 people, they will tell you that most of their cars run a soft suspension package for most of the circuits so they can get grip!!
You need more than just "hard suspension" to improve your handling, strut braces and anti roll bars are nice to have too!!
Oh yeah, i did take the van round the corner at 48mph, it did scare me cos of the body roll and i think the tyres squeeling didnt help either but the scoob at 60mph was still on its side of the road, flat in the corner and not even pushing its grip, if you hit this corner it would shock you, its an s bend, nice right hander into nice left then a sharp left half way round.

I apologise for all my previous posts and my previous incarnations; 6SSK, JasonM and JasonM2. As you can tell from some of my previous posts I am suffering from a disease called 'Muppetness' and am currently taking medication to cure it. Unfortunately my prescription ran out last week and so regrettably, I started to relapse. Fortunately I have managed to find one of my tablets and so temporarily I fear, I have lapsed back into sanity. So I ask everyone to help me by NOT RESPONDING to any of my or my alias' posts, encouraging me only worsens my condition.

Many Thanks

J

PS While In this stable and sane condition I will take the opportunity to rid myself of this damn puffa jacket and baseball cap forever! And I've gotta get those bloody pioneer stickers out of my of my mums car before she gets back, she's gonna bloody kill me!
