But there is some tail-off and we don't know what'd happen if the limit was raised.
The power may drop of very quickly after that?!
This is my RR print out...
Not a massive tail-off, but it's starting to drop off.
With engine work (head, cams, etc..) they do rev up a lot more, I know a lad with a heavily modded one kicking out about 170bhp that revs to 8000rpm.
I keep thinking about doing it to mine, but then I think sell it & buy a Scoob!

Bluenose you've totally lost me? Your car set the quicker time on the day, but that was never really in doubt! I've maintained the 172 is faster all the way through this thread cause....well...it is! Nevertheless, the time we did race the VTS crossed the line first and that felt pretty darn good!
Can't believe your changing the alloys though as the standard ones look pretty mean??

SaxoBoy,
I was only winding you up chief!
When we raced I had the faster time but you beat me. You had the better reaction time, hence the result!

Nah, I'd rather not spend Ł15 to find out what power my standard car is got when that would pay for half a dawes when/if I get a scooby. Thanks for the offer though.

Saxo Boy, what have you had ago against on the road ?
I had a go at a Boxster the other day with my aged GTI and it was surprisingly close !
I suspect yours may have had the better of it, maybe mine was flattered due to the low down grunt, dont know, was very surprised !

Okay Mark the following is a list of the cars that I’ve played with when I’ve been sure they were playing back and the result.
Mondeo ST24 – Identical till about 85 then he very slowly eased away
Vectra V6 – I very slowly pulled away
Alfa 156 2.5 V6 – The same (that really hacked him off BTW)
BMW 325 (old 1) – VTS pulled away quite convincingly
BMW 328 (old 1) – He slowly eased away
Boxter – Unfortunately didn’t start till in 4th gear (Hence VTS running out of steam) so he pulled away
Modded 16v Golf – Thrashed it (raced another one which did better but VTS still quicker)
Clio 172 – They ease slowly away (beaten one and I know he was trying, eh bluenose )
Evo 6 – Do I really have to say the result!!
BMW M3 (new) – Totally destroyed me
BMW 330d – VTS won, just!
Audi 80 2.8 – VTS pulled away
Scoobies – Varying degrees of getting beaten (sometime not by as much as you’d think)
Merc CLK 230K – VTS very slightly faster
Merc SLK 230K – Identical till the gear changes then it pulled a metre every time (auto box is fast!!!)
Escort XR3I – Thrashed it
Pulsar Gti-R – Nothing in it (possibly a none turbo tarted up to look like the GTI-R)
Cav Sri – Thrashed it
Focuses – Don’t know why but they keep trying??
Honda Accord 2.0 VTEC – VTS had it quite easily
Citroen Berlingo Van – Struggled to get past on the twisties (the driver was a nutter, it was brilliant the way he slid it around with the tools flying around in the back!)
There have been lots of other brief encounters, usually on the bypass after roundabouts but I can’t remember them all. The VTS will usually fair well against any normal car with anything less than 2 litres. I actually prefer it when I lose cause I’m usually more impressed by the shift the Saxo puts in against these faster cars than what it does to slower ones.
For the record I never sit too close to people’s bumper to provoke them or rev at lights, etc. If it’s safe I’ll take an opportunity to tussle and if there is something sweet at a set of lights I’ll take the next lane to give him the option – By the time I’ve got her slowly rolling I can tell if they want to go so I don’t need to gun it off the lights and look like an **** if they don’t come with me.
What about yourself in the T5 or golf?

Even a standard gtir should convincingly pull away from you as out of the box they're 220 bhp and out-accellerate most things. You'd probably be better matched on a country road though as the standard suspension isn't that good-showing it's age.

The list was an exercise in boredom at work. As I said every one of these was under varied road conditions - some were 0-40 off the lights, others 50-whatever down the bypass, some in the wet some through the twisties, etc. The only way to know for sure what is straight line quicker is to take on such vehicles at Crail or something like that when you know they are giving it their all. The V6's are the most fun cause most of the family sized V6's, Vectra, Mondeo, Alfa stuggle to loose the Saxo until 100mph and even then the difference isn't great (power-to-weight and gearing).
I understand the list seems a little boy racerish but the reason its so large is my work situation. I head against (not literally)the traffic down the bypass and more often than not when you come round a roundabout side by side with someone your doing 20mph in a 70 with a clear road. Quite a large amount of people are up for gunning it up to cruising speed which is what I like cause it's fun, it gives and idea of performances and it's far safer than around the busy urban streets.
I agree with the GTI-R, I really did expect to get wasted so it probably wasn't a legit GTI-R. Obviously haven't been going fast of late though cause I got loads of miles out that last tank of fuel!!

Ok, quick list, theres a promising programme on about Lesbians and I like to think that I am knowledgeable and informed on such matters should I ever be in a situation......
oops getting carried away
Have had six Golfs, but only had this one a week but
Boxster, as mentioned earlier
Merc SL 350, joining M way, took him till 90 to get past !
T5
New Mr2 = Very close, quick little car !
Scoob = was already moving, 3rd gear, nothing in it from 40 to 90
TT 225 = very even, again wouldnt bother from a standstill, Scoob was quicker !
Mk3 16 Valve Golf = Destroyed it
Aged 911 of some description = he was a bit quicker
Saxo VTS = upto 40/50 - nothing in it, and then left it
And get this !
Tatty F reg Maestro Van on Anglesey, overtook me as I was accelerating (Foot to boards), I was 5 up with luggage but how, why would a Maestro van be able to do this, no outward clue of anything untoward under the bonnet. Still smarting from that one !

I have to agree I'm beginning to wonder if I've got a 'good un' so to speak. I do a lot of bypass driving and get the chance to open her up at least once a day I wonder if that just keeps everything running ticketty-boo! What is scarry is I know she's quite a bit quicker in the cold
As for the 306 GTI he drove that race better than me as I screwed up the start, had I done my 15.3 that race I'd have won! Also, if you read back you'll note you proudly state that your bro got 15.4 in your 306 GTI. Humble and Pie!!!
Bluenose how come you didn't win a race?? Did you not race some of the other hatches? What really surpised me was the 330 BMW, I've raced a 328i before and he eased away very, very slowely so I expected it to be relatively close.....err no. Hats of the boys at BMW that 3 litre is a huge improvement over the 2.8 as it destroyed the VTS.

Ah, thats sneeky Saxo Boy!
I'm going to buy a set of Supper Leggeras in May, so that should shed quite a few extra KG. If you reckon you've saved 20 KG on a steely, I wonder what I would have saved if I'd taken the full size 16" alloy wheel out the boot??
BTW the rolling road test is only about 15 quid! Still interested?

Saxo Boy its a 306 Well spotted It's not a gti tho its the XSI altho it dosen't matter because I've got the same power as the GTI-6 at the wheels now so the only difference is the gear box Then nos on-top.... Only trouble with mine is traction spins the wheels in thrid when you turn it on Thats why high power front wheel drive cars never put in good time down the strip because they can't get grip.... There should be a offical test with timming gear to see a cars 30-70 or 40-100 times as thats where you tend to use it on the road
Cheers

Sorry Saxo Boy..... some of the ones on that list would need proving for me to beleive it.
Next thing you'll be saying you match me all the way to 100MPH
