Andrew:

"Why should I be restricted in the trackdays?" - This is something that we are hoping to avoid, no restriction has come into effect yet.

"I think if that is the suggestion, it should be SIDC membership restriction" - I'd be interested to hear how you think that could be enforced and what it would achieve. Exactly! Unenforceable and serves no purpose whatsoever.

"But while I still have SIDC membership, changing trackday policy mid-membership is unfair." - So tell me what track days you will miss out on before your current membership expires! There are no restrictions for Croft and there are currently no further days scheduled prior to your current membership expiring. Also, we are moving towards the summer period when track bookings are dominated by real racing drivers.

"Change the policy at year-end after proper discussion at the AGM. This is too big a step to take without the membership having a say." - Fair comment! Thank you!! No doubt this item will be something of a hot potato at the AGM. Good luck Stef! However, you must accept that the BHLG situation is already with us and cannot be ignored. It is only proper that we bring this to members' attentions at the earliest possible time. Equally it is only fair that we discourage non-Subaru track enthusiasts from joining the club (prior to any effective rule changes) before it gets out of hand, which it is threatening to do so. There were far more than five non-Subarus at Donington on Sunday. There must have been a dozen non-Subarus (or 30%) or the entry. Far more than the numbers that Paul suggets above. On top of this, Craig's request for information has provoked a quick reply which by no means reflects all of the deliberations and ideas that that the committee has. I'm sure that Stef does not have a full week going spare to type up all of the issues arising from this matter. Please bear this in mind when interpreting anything that Stef or any other member of the SIDC committee has posted.

"a track full of Scoobs would be very boring indeed" - In which case why the hell would you want to mix it with such a boring group of cars???

Sorry, but I'm getting tired of all of the self-centred whingeing. Especially when it is has so little foundation in reality.

Andrew, you raise a couple of valid points in your message but I feel that these are tainted by the rest of your comments.

Even if the worst happens, which I hope it won't, there are plenty of other track days available to you. The club is not depriving you of your right to enjoy your Westfield, so why the anger? I, myself have a track day car (Ariel Atom) but I don't bring it to Subaru days. I bring the Subaru. There's a reason for that. Do you get it? I am disappointed by your willingness to slate a club that you have been a member of for a considerble period and has served you so well in the past. If you've done 10 track days then the SIDC/MTR have saved you well in excess of £1,000 when compared to commercial operations. How about a little recognition for that? In the same way that the committee recognises that it owes something to longstanding members who may no longer drive a Subaru!

Although I, as a member of the committee, have chosen not to use my track day car at SIDC days I would not wish to impose this same rule on others who have moved on to other marques. However, we should all remember that this is primarily a Subaru club and that must be be reflected in all of the club's events.

Paul, you may be an overaged, workshy, student hippy who doesn't like changing lanes and has no endurance but I am in agreement with your suggestion. I feel that this is the correct way to go, we just need more time to make sure that we can make this happen, preferably at BHLG circuits too. Although I see no reason to single out newbies, maybe just keep a list of those who missed out on earlier track days and give them priority at later dates. If you don't wish to insult Stef, then don't call him a muppet in front of 4,899 other people. It's a right royal pain in the **** dealing with the public and Stef deserves a medal for all of the messing about that he endures in the name of SIDC. A rapid statement was demanded by the BBS and that is what you got, warts and all. If you could have waited for an official release, I'm sure that things would have gone much more smoothly.

I have another suggestion for track days. Cancellation fees!!!!! There seems to be a minority who will book a day as soon as they hear about it and then think nothing of cancelling those that they don't wish to attend after all, knowing that there is no penalty for this. Maybe the level of oversubscription could be reduced if we introduced such a charge? How about 25%? What do you think? It should free up a few places for those who are serious from the start.

Cool

Tony - yes I agree I'm amazed to find there isn't a cancelation fee. If it was commercial, you would have to pay even if you didn't turn up.

Red face

I head home from the USA today so i can come sort a few of you out soon! JOKE, its a JOKE!!!

OK, the SIDC making life hard for me re track days wont affect me one little bit. I have been driving on track for at least 7 years on track days, i dont need the SIDC to get me out there having fun.

The reason i am commenting in the way i am is very simple. I dont want to see the club making a mistake, which i believe the way this is being handled is.

This is what will happen with regards me and SIDC track days. IF there is a policy of putting me on a reserve list and only letting me out on track if the Subaru's dont fill the field fully then i WILL NOT book another SIDC track day.

I have a busy, active life. I plan what i am doing weeks/months in advance. I am not prepaired to book things on and IF basis so i will just say so long, i wont see you there.

I am not getting any events mixed up stef, i have been doing this track thing long before SIDC track days existed.

The fact i joined the SIDC only 5 weeks ago has no relevence to me having a point of view on this, i am a current member, i should have my opinions heard.

Like i say, the policy change makes very little diference to me, i can go elsewhere, i dont want to see you make a hasty policy though, because that will damage the club long term.

And for those of you a little sinical (sp) out there, i do care that the club is seen as fair and logical in its aproach to decision making. If the SIDC disapeared tomorow it wouldnt make the slightest diference to me, but i know it would be a blow to thousands of enthusiats so i want to see the club decision making LOOK fair and well thought out.

Thanks for the kind words from a few of you, i am direct and straight to the point, i dont like bull****, i dont have the time or inclination for it.

I hope to see you on track soon, whether it's and SIDC, Trackzone, Wallace and Grommet Enterprises track day or whatever. I enjoy meeting you guys and taking you on track a great deal.

Just remember to get out of my way in your pedestrian Jap Crap boxes. THATS A JOKE TOO!!!!

PS. I may have to take the 22B for the day and stuff you in that instead then buddy. LOL

Stef,

Sorry mate - i wasn't implying you would let your mates go first! Its just the replys from more well known members suggests the whole track day things are a bit cliqee (sic)! Would a poor new member like me stand a chance???

I still stand by what i said. You have to make a rule that everyone stands by otherwise there will be bedlam. Look at the abuse poor JohnF is getting for wanting to carry on kicking our *****!!

JohnF - it would be a shame if i dont ever get the chance to be overtaken by your great self in the future! - you too Blowdog!

James Douglas - I joined the SIDC about 12 months ago but only looked at doing track-days this year.

I saw the Trackzone Donno day advertised, sent off my cheque and had a great day on track.

I saw the ad for the SIDC day at Donno (18-02) and did the same and had a great day on track, meeting loads of other members at the same time. I don't think you'll come across any 'obstacles' being a 'first-timer'. I didn't

And to those who missed out on these days, first come-first served means just that and if I miss a track-day because I wasn't quick enough, then thats my fault and I won't be complaining about it!

I hope to meet many more people at many more track-days, SIDC organised or not.

Wink

Phew Raw Nerve springs to mind with some of you. Calm down everyone.

How about this then for track day attendance:

"First come, first served" whatever you drive. It is the SIDC but I agree with JohnF that it is far more exciting to see a nice range of cars. It would be a shame to lose Hunty in his Evo Mak(& Blow Dog), as well as Mad Eric in the Skyline

Just get in there first and you have it sorted. Or use the tombola method????

Simple rule, effective, and avoids any discrimination and favouritism.

Buddy - Bad day at the office mate
