Clive - can you explain to us what 600+ feels like on the road? I take it you do actually give it the occasional beans on the road? lol How much space do you have to give yourself on the road, etc.?
(I suppose it'll be impossible for us to appreciate as we have no reference...)

Yes it does spool slightly differently, but it's sometimes hard to know what is time related and what is RPM related. The runs were pretty quick to flash through so representative of the car in say 3rd-4th gear on the road.
Turbos are funny things, and the same thing that allows the turbo to make more power at the same boost may be the very same thing that causes slightly slower spool IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES. It was also clear when mapping the car for the new turbo, that it totally changed the fueling right from low down, and I suspect that any small changes in spool would be more than made up for in a improved power and response on and off the throttle around atmospheric pressure.
It's important to realise that the billet wheels are not just a billet copy of the original, made sightly lighter, but a totally different shape of wheel that reacts in a different matter. And also although they are both GT35 based turbos, Clive's original turbo is one of the very earliest GT35s that ever was, in fact it's 0.82 A/R ex housing was the first ever made (modified from a 0.82 A/R GT30 housing) so it is possible that there are slight changes in the housing, or a build up of scale or maybe the new turbo will loosen up a little with further use.
Todays result are pretty clear i think, we went to some lengths to ensure the test was as fair and "back to back" as possible, and the differences are clear to see at high boost, but also there were similar gains at 1.5 bar and 1.8 bar.
Overall I think it's a cracking turbo, it's so obviously different when you come to map it, and I suspect on some (Subaru) cars it will go on to make more power again, 650+ should be in reach.

Saved me a lot of typing, thanks Paul.
One thing we did notice is our dyno has been occasionally holding back this last week, it appears on the printout as slightly slow spool, we have just run a WR1 this morning and noticed this problem, spool 200/300 rpm later than the next run, maybe we have a dyno glitch to sort, will keep an eye on it over the next few days.
The SC46 billet's are still on their way as soon as they arrive we will put them to the test

Hi,
One thing we did notice is our dyno has been occasionally holding back this last week, it appears on the printout as slightly slow spool, we have just run a WR1 this morning and noticed this problem, spool 200/300 rpm later than the next run, maybe we have a dyno glitch to sort, will keep an eye on it over the next few days.

Hi Kev, not trying to teach Granny to suck eggs, but we had this recently and found that one of our staff had inadvertantly turned off the smart mode on the hard drive during the boot up procedure. This caused the dyno to pause briefly after flicking the ramp switch to look where to put the dyno file, before allowing the run to continue.

dyno sorted, guess it needed a going over after 28,000 km's recorded use with 31,407 power runs
,
Apparently the delay was due to the machine occasionally having to look for the front roller data longer than it should.
Huge thanks to Mike from Dyno Dynamics for sorting it
Now back to testing turbo's still waiting for the SC46 but the next test is on an ex Time Attack car fitted with a GT35R on a 2.0ltr CDB, customer complains of lag, no surprise there, so we are to go with a GT 30 billet, results to follow

Hi,
it caused the dyno to hang back as we threw the switch for a run, this showed the spool on the 35 R billet to look slightly slower than it actually was at the bottom of the graph, this can be seen especially on the original printout as a small blip on the blue trace, then you will notice it catches up and soon overtakes the standard 35R. We noticed it getting worse hence the intervention of Mike from Dyno Dynamics, now sorted.

as promised the ex Time Attack car has been run on the dyno showing very poor spool.
No wonder the owner complained of lag.
Turbo now removed, replaced with our billet GT30, car strapped on the dyno, mapping tommorow

Hi,
printout tomorrow, however car has issues with its rotated pipework, this became apparent when we sripped off the GT35, its a mess and most likely contributing to the poor spool.
We will still run the back to back test as is then we feel the pipe work will need sorting, this done we will run the test again.
