1bar at 2700, full boost what feels like very soon after (we didn't check TBH). Peak boost 1.7 bar. IIRC 4th gear.

Put one of these on a forged 2.5 and it's alll the performance you could ever need for a road car. It's the responsiveness that gets the job done though: there is no "wait for it, wait for it" one normally associates with the bigger turbos; it's there when you need /want it! The ompf through the gears is lovely and lets just say that I've heard that even well into three figures in 6th gear it still pulls hard enough to convince one that the stock speedo maximum is rendered rather inadequate!

Review here (and spec) if you're interested.

Hi,

never charged for one, always done on in house engines so just took it on the chin.

If it was a strip, block skim and put back together it would cost around £1500.00 to maybe £1700.00 which would include oil and filter change, new head-gaskets, machining costs and the labour.

This is why its not a commercial thing to do, who would be willing to put an extra £1700.00 safety net into the job, and the off road time involved.

Not so much a problem if you are doing it as a labour of love for your self, as a business its a nono.

Back to the turbo's.

cheers

Anyone thats intrested, Pat mapped my SC46 on a 2.0L today at the clinic.

It was on a 2.5, and really good but my engine had a slight issue the other week so a quick swap to a 2.0L was called for.
As you expect there was a torque loss but it made 477 and around 430lbs on good fuel @ 1.8bar on ver2 heads.

Happy days, thanks Pat & Kev.

You ll have to see if Kev will post a copy, I only have a paper one and not in a postion to scan it in at the minute.

Not sure of fuel spec, but a race fuel I was given many months ago and never used on the 2.5.

Impressive given the heads will be a limiting factor, would like to know what race fuel exactly though.

Ver.2 heads! Didn't realise they could flow enough for 477bhp. Thought they had trouble reaching 400!

STi or WRX ones? STi are only slightly better for the MY95-96/Ver.2 (and MY93-94/Ver.1) aren't they?

They are V2 sti ra, as is the engine. These cams are slightly lower lift than Ver3/4.
My rough check shows V2 ra cams to be around 8.5mm lift with ver3/4 close to 9mm lift.

Just to add, anyone who has had some of these will know that all the ver2 cam buckets are smaller as they run in a bronze sleeve, where as the 3/4 are straight in the alloy. Hence the different lift.

So are the Ver.1/2 STi heads non-hydraulic, then? (I can't remember lol).

RA heads have solid lifters.

Like I said I dont much about the fuel, but I understand it has a 100 RON rating.

Its just a good SC billet combined with Pats top engine harmonisation. He did suggest that it appeared to have some left if I wanted to push it, but its always good to keep the lid on the box!!! As much as I like flat 4's they are best viewed from the outside!

Fairly meaningless unless we all know the name of the fuel, so that it's make-up can be quantified. Regardless.... it's a very nice figure.

Not bad for an SC36 Billet.

There was more to come but intake temps were so high yesterday we capped it at 383 BHP.

This is the first SC36 Billet we have done on a 2.5 with pistons, spool is incredible, data logging on the road showed full boost of 1.45 bar at 2600 RPM, difficult to measure though as it spools and just f***s off.

cheers

Default SC42 BILLET

Hi Kev,

As per my previous post I already have the SC42 on my GB270 wagon (WRX), wondering what's the most you have had out of one of these on normal 99RON?.

Thinking now about stronger internals and gearbox, clutch and so on but wondering if to keep the SC42 after rebuild and see what it produces or go to the SC46. Hoping for a round 430 to 440 BHP and similar lbft? Not so much high number chasing, hence why wanting to keep the SC42 with the nice early spool/boost but would a decent forged build etc be wasted with the SC42 on it?

Also best 5 speed kit that you do - mainly road use and also everyday car so want something easy to use and QUIET! Nothing noisy.

Any advice please?

Cheers

Hi,

we haven't done many as we discontinued the SC42 Billet, but due to customer demand we have re-introduced it and stocks are arriving Monday.

The problem is most forged builds always end up with a turbo to take it to the upper BHP figures the forged internals will handle, very rare for us to find a customer that has forged pistons then opts for a smaller Billet than the engine will safely take, which is why the last dyno printout is the first time we have pushed the SC36 Billet properly on a 2.5 with forged pistons, and with target boost of 1.45 Bar achieved at just 2600 RPM it is truly amazing to drive.

I would stick with the sC42 Billet and see what it does.

We do two types of 5 speed gear-kit, the elite kit and the Albins kit, both work great the Albins being the quieter of the two, both are not noisy at all but just give off a pleasant hum to remind you there is something pretty serious in the transmission tunnel.

Hope the above has answered a few of your questions

cheers

Default SC42

Cheers Kev,

Powerstation did the turbo and an STI TMIC, full Milltek exhaust with sports cat and so on - made just over 400BHP/440lbft on the first dyno run on Vpower - this was an 'Easy' map so as not to push the engine, was then 'De-tuned' down to 363bhp/351lbft to save the engine/gearbox etc. They changed the actuator for the original TD04 one to reduce the boost and enlarged the wastegate (so I was told?), so when mods are done I will need to source a new actuator I assume - Do I need to get this from you or is it a generic item/fit? Not sure on the wastegate mods/details?

Do you think the SC42 will produce similar figures over it's rated output like the SC36/SC38?

Just out of interest are there any differences in the 'new' SC42 over the previous one?

also, Fancy making a deal on a decent 2.5 forged build with an existing SC42 as a 'test mule'?

Cheers

Hi,

waste-gate enlarged.

We can supply the relevant actuator no probs.

PM me with your budget as we may just have the right engine ready built and run in available.

cheers
