Kev,
Why go rotated if you can offer a standard location 600+ turbo? As like you said, it would save a lot of money with regards to pipe work etc.

What would the advantages be of going rotated if you can produce 600+ on a standard location turbo?

Hi,

we find with a rotated set up we can get the same power at less boost than a direct fit set up, so less stress on the engine.

The way our direct fit Billet range has evolved means we are fitting less rotated set ups for fast road use, the rotated stuff is mainly for track cars where they are under constant full chat so any stress we can reduce the better.

You are right though, why go rotated on a fast road car when the direct fit billets do the job so well.

I didn't realise you generally ran less boost going rotated to be honest! But the direct billets do seem to cover a lot of options now.

Looks very familiar

Note that was throttled back from 470bhp at my request to run below the 450bhp limit several tuners have said to use as a rough top end limit without getting internals uprated.

Nice result, pondering if I stick with MD321H or bolt on one of these. I'm fitting a Syvecs and larger under bonnet air filter on 5th April and will see what that does with a meths map.

Are you running tubular headers on your set up, if so did you install one of Harvey's up-pipes?

Another result for the SC46

Following obtained from an APi built 2.5 engine.

Can only offer you a Delta Dyno graph at the moment, which may be slightly different from a Dyno Dynamics RR. Bob has said he reckons at least 460 though.

To be honest, peak figures don't tell half the story though; it's the way this turbo spools and delivers that impresses most. In 4th gear 1 bar boost obtained at 2700 rpm and full boost (peak 1.7 bar) very shortly thereafter!!! When I'm next at APi, I'll RR it for the sake of arguments, but I'm not really fussed; it's way to easy to get preoccupied with chasing headline figures - check out the area beneath the curves!!

On the road, this car delivers! Period!

Really nice results on that SC46.

I know there are graphs on here, but my engine is nearing completion with the following specs:

2.1 stroker cdb
Wiseco pistons
k1 rods
acl bearings
sti v5/6 heads (ported, new k-line guides, cosworth springs etc)
850cc injectors
Harvey headers/uppipe (still need this)
Harvey fmic (stil need this)
6 speed
Walbro etc, the supporting mods
Vi-Pec ecu

All going in a classic.
And to top it off I reckon the SC46 I'm looking for 410-450 max bhp in a daily road car. So how does it perform on a 2.1 spool wise? Or would I be better of with a SC40 of something else?

Hi,

not done one on a 2.1 stroker yet, the 46 billet will sing away certainly giving you the numbers you require, the SC40 billet will certainly hit 400 BHP minimum, where it will top out I dont know, spool wise they will be similar .

this sounds interesting.. get it going in the background slowly so when i get bored of the MD321v i have something to upgrade too without the extra cost of pipe work

i like the idea of a standard looking car that performs, just like your 22b!

Not 1.9 bar Kev - it was 1.5 on the 20g that I mapped up there to give 420bhp. But the sc46 was only really being tickled to get to 440 ish and is a way better drive than the 20g. Enough to light all 4 wheels up in the road test afterwards. I could quite easily have got 460+ out of it but Martin requested that I kept it all within itself. So 440 was what we settled for

I must have been only using a 1khz frequency that day where 5's and 9's sound the same.

The SC46 on a 2.1 is nothing short of amazing. Really spooly, long legged in it's delivery across a broad power band and very responsive between changes.

Begs the question Martyn, sc46 on a 2.1 or a 2.5, which in your opinion is better. I guess the answer will be dependant on what you intend to do with the car when finished?

My guess would be that a 2.5 will produce better spool characteristics, power and especially torque (aint' no replacement for displacement), but 2.1. the better option if you want to go bigger than the SC46 and venture into the 500 as the block is stronger?

For a road car though, SC46 on a 2.5 is just lovely. Full review coming soon!

My driving style is probably like "Harry Hill". Torque has always been my aim, so we shall see how the 2.5 goes.
