pro death penalty advocates try and spin it differently to being guilty and really guilty
but that way of thinking is "fairies at the bottom of the garden" stuff by people who know zero about the law
so it is no coincedence that the vast majority of the legal profession are against the death penalty

The difference is the examples you give were never clear cut, they weren't caught in the act so to speak. Ian Huntley, Mira Hindley, Liam Brady, The Bulger killers were and are all clear cut cases.
I know this has been raised before in having a two tier guilty verdict of guilty and really guilty but the fact is a woman accused of murdering her children with no proof other than they all died inexplicably in her care and someone like Huntley who brutally murdered 2 little girls are not comparable in terms of evidence and how clear cut they are.
If someone is caught in the act and it is undeniable what they have done then there is no risk of hanging the wrong person.

I could not bring myself to read exactly what they did to that poor little boy it was too upsetting and disturbing from the brief bit i read previously.

The two cases where it was later proved the mothers were innocent are examples where the so called proof or evidence and professional opinions is questionable as proven by later medical science advancements. The case of Baby P is not questionable due to the horrific injuries caused to the poor child.
I fail to see where that is unworkable or too simplistic, you can't hang the wrong person if they are caught in the act.

As for lowering the state to the same level as the defendant that is nonsense. It is the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime. As it stands these 3 sickos have got off with 12 years, 5 years and 3 years with a protected life when they are released. Tell me how that is a fair sentence and punishment for what they did.

1. A 2 year old innocent child is abused and murdered.
2. The 3 adults who carried out the series of events are put to sleep as they are a danger to the public.
Theres no lowering ourselves, its just plain and simple cleaning out the waste.

Be in doubt I would want these people to live a very long life in abject misery and sorrow. Surely more of a punishment than a death sentence.
It is possible they could be freed - but the recommendation for at least one of them is an indefinite sentence and it could really be forever.
Perhaps a different argument for this thread but there is an example in the US of a heinous multiple killer who was on death row in California for over twenty years. But in that time he had educated himself and repented of what he had done. This was no showing off for the parole board as he would never have a chance to be free; he genuinely wanted to help others to ensure that they did not fall into the same life he had.
Finally he was executed. So tell me, in this example, who wins?
If we take a life because it suits our values and mores it makes us little different in my eyes. And, at least to me, this takes NOTHING away from the punishment these people fully deserve.
