Cool The 80's appreciation/nostalgia thread

Ok, to move away from Pete the w4nkers incessant political trolling, how about a new ('cos its probably been done before) thread remembering all that was so good about the 80's

I'll kick things off with a musical slant

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_rEQ-nsQQM

Cor the 80's what a decade
First started to appreciate music, street party for the royal wedding, 81 we moved to the house I still live in now, 89 left school without bothering with exams, and first properly fancied a girl...

90's were not too bad either, but the innocence of the 80's is memorable for me

The 80's

Pros - Great music, great movies, great TV, great gigs, great clubbing!

Cons - Thatcher turned the nation into a greed driven social mess

Sorry DD, couldn't resist

My enduring memories of the 80s:

Driving the Argies into the sea (with no understanding of the atrocities the Junta was comitting on the mainland)

The SAS showing the people in the Iranian embassy in London why you shouldn't mess with them.

A constant fear of Nuclear attack

Duran Duran

Olympic boycots

A very messy Tory recovery from the dismal state Labour left the country in, resulting in Miners 0 Police 1 on the news most nights.

Battle of the Planets

Debbie Gibson vs Tiffany

After school detention

35. Left school in 1990. So, I suppose it could be seen as I only started "Going out" in the 90's to clubs etc.

Couldn't have seen myself dancing away to Duran Duran, The Communards (sp), The House Martins etc.

Sister used to buy all those "Now" tapes. Truly awful music. Apart from a few songs, you can stick the rest in room 101.

EDIT
Best thing about the 80's? Ford brought us the Sierra Cosworth.

I'm with stilover on this.

A decade I couldn't wait to end.

The only good thing that happened to me in the 80's was passing my driving test and getting my first car. Oh, and one other thing that I'm far too much of a gentleman to mention here...

Mine was drilled and tapped M5, I used to get similar to you 8 to 10 pumps, combined with a large scope and a promethius it was accurate and deadly.

Just realised Ive left my 309GTI off my list, I have a snap of it with me leaning against it with a huge fluffy bouffant...I must dig that one out along with the Magnusson goaty picture..
