Only managed a couple of hours today (it is the wifes birthday after all !)

Blocked the extra crankcase breather that my WR1 block has and did some more heat wrapping on the headers.

The cam belt tensioner has had the plunger pushed back in using the press at work so that is ready to go back on as well.

I just need more time to work on it !

Decided to take a couple of days holiday (I had 14 days to fit in by the end of December !)

The wife was ill yesterday so didn't get anything done but managed to get the timing belt on today.

I must say, the Cosworth kevlar belt looks very impressive !

I also finished wrapping the headers, this had got to be the biggest ball ache of a job ever !

Trying to feed the heat wrap through the gaps between the pipes is a complete pain in the d**k, only made worse by the sharp edges on the stainless cable ties.

It's like wrestling with a razor equipped octopus !

I now have to decide whether I sell the VF35 and fit a bigger turbo before I proceed any further ?

The only problem is that if I do that, you can bet that the clutch and gearbox will let go next !

Indeed !

I had to sit around the house making sympathetic noises !

Turbo wise, I have seen a couple for sale on here AF TD05 20G and FP TD05 20G, etc.

If I do take the plunge I want something capable of 400+

AF TD05-20G will be better option than FP TD05-20G(these turbo's don't have good reputation in tuners).

FP Green's seem to suffer bearing failures but I read an article on their website about removing a small filter in the oil feed banjo bolt that can restrict the oil supply to the turbo.

There was a technical bulletin from Subaru in 2007/8 about it causing failures on standard turbos, FP claim this is what causes the problem ?

I am only contemplating the idea of a different turbo.

I just find it easier to fit the headers / up-pipe to the turbo and then fit the assembly whilst the engine is out of the car (which it is at the moment !)

The very thing !

My screen filter has suffered an 'unfortunate accident' so will not be appearing in any further episodes !

So do all VF turbo's banjo bolts have the filter after it then? What about the TD series?

Will my MY99 STi's VF28 have it?

I think this banjo bolt was from my TD04 and it had the filter ?

I had never even heard of it until I happened to look on the Forced performance website !

We live and learn I guess ?

I take it, in future, if you change your turbo, it's BEST to just junk that filter and make sure you have oil changes at no more than c.3500-4000m intervals?

Yeah, of course re oil changes. Obviously.

But that little filter thing seems more potential trouble than it's worth (if it gets clogged - curtains! ).

Makes you wonder how many turbo failures could have been caused by this ?

Unless you look very closely at the banjo bolt, it looks just like any other !

Today, I have mostly been painting the front mount intercooler satin black.

The fitting instructions are badly translated from heaven only knows what language so I am having to play it by ear !

Still undecided about what to do on the turbo front, I was expecting a bit more interest in my VF35 and pink injectors.

If I sell these, they would contribute to the cost of a replacement turbo.

I can't really afford to chuck another £500-£600 onto the credit card (September was not a good month for comission !)

Just bought the wife a laptop for her birthday as well, she really deserved something after all the crap she has had to put up with from me and this bloody car !

I could try to sell my body but then what would I do to get the other £599 ?

Looking at the shape it's in, I might be better weighing it in for scrap !

Thinks.............................what's the going rate for a kidney these days ?

Mind you, I do remember a letter in Viz once regarding the phrase 'the best way to a mans heart is through his stomach'

The alleged writer of the letter disagreed and stated that he was a consultant cardio thorasic surgeon and the procedure he uses was to make an incision, etc, etc........................

It had me in stitches (pun intended)

Removed that filter when I fitted my FP green 2 years ago am currently running 416 bhp and am very happy with the character of the car.

Mixed feedback on the FP turbos, many people seem very happy with them ?

The problem with the banjo oil filter is that sometimes they are put on backwards.

Still in limbo with the turbo !

Where is limbo by the way, is it anywhere near Jeopardy ?

The number of times that it is on the news about 'jobs in jeopardy', I think I should move there due to all the employment opportunities !

Will someone please buy my VF35 and injectors so that I can purchase a bigger turbo ?

I am concerned that this rebuild might actually work so I need more power to stand a better chance of blowing it up again !

Painted the lower intercooler pipes with (anti) stonechip paint prior to fitting them and lowered the fuel canister as per the intercooler fitting instructions today.

Now sold the VF35 and 'pinks' !

Fitted the intercooler core today and spent hours cutting the bumper, might have a go at fitting some mesh tomorrow to protect it ?

The other problem is locating a suitable turbo at the right price, seemed to be loads around when I put my turbo up for sale and now jack s**t !

Is he any connection to the guy in 24 ?

Hi ,

Just wondering if you got this sorted in the end , Im in the same boat as you know and was wondering what put you off just replacing the bottom end or using the one from the STi motor you mentioned at the begining ?

Good luck ,

Dom
