Help !!! Killed the Scoob !

More like William Conrad as Frank Cannon ( A Quinn Martin production)
I'm not really that fat / old but you get the picture !
In other news, the banjo bolt I ordered from Subaru has come and it's the wrong one.
I tried the sensible approach, called the parts department and said 'I need this part but the turbo isn't the standard one for my car, not a problem but if you look up the WR1 ltd edition I think it has the correct turbo'
Their reply ?
'We need a chassis number'
'For what ?'
'So that we can look up your car'
'Yeah, but as i said it isn't the standard part for my car, that's why I think the WR1 turbo is the one to look at ?'
'We need a chassis or reg number'
'I don't have a chassis number that will be of any use because I don't have a WR1'
'Baffled silence.................'
'Okay, I'll make this easy, I'll give you my chassis number and you can order the bolt for the TD04 turbo, I think the only difference is the size of the hole in the bolt'
They faxed me a picture with part numbers for the TD04, I told them which parts I wanted and they posted them.
The banjo bolt is the one that fits into the block not the turbo, looks half as big again and ONE copper washer when I asked for two.
The washer is the correct diameter for the bolt I wanted but miles too small for the bolt they sent !
I will try again tomorrow !

Not the same Subaru dealer but another great example from the archive.
'Hi, I'd like to order some cross springs to fit my front Brembos please'
'What are Brembos ?'
'The brake calipers that are usually fitted on the STi models.........................?'
'We need a chassis number'
'Might be a bit of a problem, my car is a 2002 WRX but I have a set of Brembo calipers to go on as an upgrade, if you look up the parts list for front brakes on a 2002 STi type UK, you will be able to find the bits that I need'
'I need a chassis number'
'I'll call back when you have evolved'

I had a great conversation today trying to explain that even though the part number on the polythene bag is the correct one from their parts diagram, the bolt is not the correct size.
I have considered whether the TD04 uses a bigger banjo bolt but the washer that they sent out (part number also from their parts diagram) fits my broken bolt but is too small for the bolt they have sent me ?
The bolt they sent looks like the one that screws into the cylinder head (M14 ?) with a 'huge' oil hole, the one I want is M10 with a small oil hole to screw into the turbo.
I have told them to order the other part number in case the two bolts have been mixed up (the part numbers are identical except one ends in 'A' the other in 'B')
I really need it now as I have to have the car back on the road by next Thursday !

Cheers Dunx !
I went and collected it in person this morning, this time it was the correct one, forty mile round trip for a bolt though !
I got the engine back in after lunch, just got to finish bolting the bits back on.
MUST remember to refit the bottom hose, I couldn't get it onto the ramp to get underneath.
I will be stood there up to my waist in water wondering why it has taken 200 gallons of coolant and the header tank is still empty !
Working tomorrow so might have a couple of hours 'quality time' with it after we close.

Sorry it's a late reply, I've been away all week with work.
Surfing at Saltburn-by-the-Sea, MTB'ing, walking around The North Yorkshire Moors....
Could only have been better with a Scoob !

Shatner mode engaged.
Captains log..........stardate 3......7......10
Myself and Mr..............Spock have beamed down to the surface of the planet......workshop.
Our sensors indicated a new life form................metallic in construction and refered to by the planets inhabitants as................'a bag of death'
Further studies indicate that it is a primitive form of........transport.
Similar in construction to an early 21st century automobile.............only worse.
One of the inhabitants.......a strange, troll like creature, appeared to be........... worshipping the structure...........muttering strange incantations and hopping.......up and down whilst waving strange metallic objects..............
Managed to get in a couple of hours today after work, fitted the downpipe, lower gearbox nuts and engine mount nuts.
I don't know what was going on with the guys in the bri-nylon sweaters ?
P*ssed me off so much that I chucked a spanner at them !
I'm sure I got the one in the red jumper though !

Got it all back together today, refilled the coolant and changed the oil (what was left of it !)
The battery had gone flat whilst the car has been off the road, had it on charge for 4 hours but when I refitted it the car won't turn over !
The dashboard lights are on, the flashing 'key' symbol for the immobiliser goes out when I insert the key but nothing !
I have tried re-arming the alarm (standard fit Sigma) and then unlocking with the alarm fob (seemed to behave as normal), still nothing !
Tried it at first with the crank sensor disconnected (changed the oil this morning) and then in desperation with it connected, still nothing !
Checked all the things I can think of, engine bay harness connectors, etc.
I have put the battery on overnight charge just to see if it could be the problem (I have had similar things happen to cars in the showroom when the battery has been allowed to drain completely)
I have my fingers crossed !
Any advice as to what I might have overlooked would be appreciated ?

I will check again but I am the master of overtightening !
What would happen if I had the fuel pipes onto the manifold in the wrong order ?
ie. feed to return and vice-versa ?
Just occured to me that when I reset the alarm and tried again, it didn't turn over but the was a noise that sounded like a pump of some kind ?

Simon, you are dee man !
Many thanks as always.
I have been trawling through my workshop manual to see what I missed and arrived at the same conclusion !
Only difference is it took me 3/4 of an hour longer than you !
I will now fall on my sword in time honoured tradition.
I might actually sleep tonight now !

Er..............................
I think I am all out of poignards, can I get back to you when they are back in stock ?
As an aside, it occured to me.............................
Do lightsabres have safety catches ?
Think about it for a minute..............
In the 'deactivated' mode, one end looks much like another.
How embarrasing would it be to do your fast draw, switch it on and cut yourself in half ?
Or slowly and menacingly draw your 'sabre, switch it on and then look behind you to see three feet of 'blade' sticking out of your back ?
The only saving grace is that it cauterises as it cuts, a bit like being attacked with a giant Breville !

It lives !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put the spade conector back on the starter, cranked till the oil light went out (with the crank sensor disconnected) and then fired up first time !
Just have to see how it goes for a few days, seemed fine on the drive home.
I have finally got some cross springs for my front Brembos, might be able to fit them shortly (if it doesn't fall in bits AGAIN !)
