As the bonus, the recent gasket failure has addressed the issue of underbody corrosion protection !

The future is Mobil 1 at £55 per gallon, liberally sprayed all over the f*****g underside of the car.

As a bonus it also drips on the tiles so that you can fall on your a**e in the workshop, my........how we laughed !

I must go now, nurse is bringing my medication.

If only she would undo this stupid jacket ?

What is the point of it fastening at the back ?
LMFAO!!! Please say your gonna write this lot into a book mate, it makes one hell of a read.... beats the living daylights of all the stuff they put on tv!!

...Now there's an idea... ever thought of putting it to the discovery channel (similar to a car is born etc but KEEPING the scoob on the road!!)... Mind you i think it'd be more successful on Comedy or G.O.L.D!!

Anyway .... hope you can suss it out bud what's your plan of attack..? Have you figured out what was the cause?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.............................

TV stardom beckons !

I can just picture the cheesy 'Tommy Vance' (god rest him) voiceover..........

Tune in to our exclusive new show 'A Car Is Killed' ! Friday at nine on......'SKY ONE'

My best guess as to the cause of the problem ?

Cue Lloyd Grossman voiceover................

'Lets look at the evidence ?'

I noticed that the rocker gaskets were weeping slightly the other week, knowing what a b'stard of a job to redo them, I tried nipping up the bolts a bit.............................

I say a bit..........................

Well, probably more than a bit.........................

Possibly quite a bit ?

Okay, okay !

An epic 10mm spanner and a scaffolding tube for leverage were maybe, just maybe, a slight case of overbombing ?

I don't think that the fluffy wuffy little rocker cover bolts like someone getting medeival on their *** !

The week after, the bottom one on the right hand side decided that it was all just too much to bear and its head fell off (rather like several of Henry VIII's wives, with less fanfare but probably a similar amount of cleaning up to do ?)

I have decided to chill out about the whole thing, every time I pull it in bits, I learn a little bit more and I can also sort out the turbo pipework and brackets at the same time.

Trying to get to the underside of the turbo in the past has involved me lying on top of the engine and doing some contortionist moves because of my short arms and legs (not a pretty sight I'm sure) probably looks like the automotive equivalent of James Herriot with his arm up a cows a**e !

I am hoping to get some time to work on it this week, digits crossed !

Do I buy a used complete engine or short motor ?

I really need to sort this ASAP as I have JGM booked on the 29th to remap it !
Ive did the same thing with my bug, took 4 months to kill it dead though, ive just rebuilt it with v9 spec crank and forged rods for less than £1k

At the moment I am just going to sort the oil leak and a few other bits whilst the engine is out.

In an ideal world it would be a 2.5 with forged pistons and a 6 speed box going back in !

Yes, you guessed it, managed to actually start at 5.40pm !

Got the downpipe off, starter motor, pitch stopper, etc.

More to do on Friday, another half day (famous last words !)

Try again tomorrow, it is my weekend off but have to go in for a 10am appointment.

Fingers crossed for some 'quality time' with the spanners.....................

At least if sales goes bad in your place you could become a mechanic or better still you could set up your own workshop specialising in Subaru

Finally managed to get some time in the workshop !

Started at 3pm this afternoon...............................

The engine is out and on the bench so should start to make a bit of progress now hopefully.

Removed the turbo to sort out some new washers on the banjo bolts and replace one of the water pipes then I can start on the rocker covers.

well i'v been reading this post for around an hour or so and i have the up most respect for you.

all the **** you have had to put up with and the amount of time and money you spent on your scoob you my friend should be getting a medal, i don't think any one would or could have lasted this long with out throwing in the towel or having a nervous break down, and yet you still smile and have a laugh.

well i wish you all the best and i hope you keep her as i'm sure she'll be worth it when it all come's good.

Thank you !

There are times when I consider throwing in the towel but when it's running right, it's awesome !

Did about five hours on it today, most of that just f***ing about with the water pipe for the turbo.

I had to bend it carefully in the vice and then try to marry it up to the turbo, repeat until bored............................................. ...........

I also sorted out a long standing concern, when I had the engine out the last time I just swapped everything back from the dodgy recon engine.

Apart from the famous 'blue hosepipe' coolant hose that the monkeys had fitted, something else did not seem quite right ?

It was only when I purchased another engine to strip for parts, I noticed that there was a large support bracket missing from the turbo on my car !

It should have two brackets bolted to the engine, my turbo has been getting by with one, presumably clinging onto the car by the skin of its teeth (or impeller) ?

Unfortunately the missing bolt on the rocker cover has sheared off not just fallen out, had a go at drilling it to use an 'easy out' extractor but the drill had a mind of its own !

I will return with a drill of mass destruction instead of the cordless and show it how we do things downtown !

Then a truck load of chemical metal, drill and tap it and voila !

I hope.............................................. .............................

After that, clean and de grease the gaskets and mating surfaces, threebond away ! and all is well with the world !

Engine back in and Bob's your aunties live in lover !

Wait........................If this was a movie I could have a 'montage' !

That would be great !

A soft rock classic (think Eye of the Tiger, Danger Zone, etc) and all would be done in the blink of an eye in the form of 'snapshot' clips !

Just like the 'A Team' building one of their contraptions !

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm..................................... ...................

Maybe I should have bought a combine harvester thats fires cabbages at the bad guys instead or the Impreza ?

Oh bu**er !

Checked the log book and the small print says 'No refund given, no monies returned'

Later Dudes !

That wouldn't be hard !

As a bonus, I discovered that the moon monkeys that fitted the recon engine used a chisel to remove the metal oil return pipe that runs from the RH cylinder head to the bottom of the turbo !

I think is is supposed to be a very tight 'interference fit'

On closer inspection they have gouged chunks out of the mounting face on the head, no wonder I appeared to have oil leaking from that area as well !

I am going to use a 'Dremel' type tool to get rid of the worst of the gouges and then......you guessed it..............more chemical metal and sand it flat.

Hopefully once this is done I can ensure a tight fit (The Lion Sleeps Tonight ?) and oil tight seal with some threebond for good measure.

I want to get on with it but too busy at work to take the time off !

Once this is sorted I am seriously considering declaring a 'Fatwah' on spanner weilding gibbons !

Surely it isn't that difficult to comprehend basic mechanical principles ?

Did they intentionally decide to f**k me like a biatch ?

Or were they too dumb to know any better ?
